Hit Man Movie Review | The One Crucial Element Missing From Richard Linklater's Hilarious New Film

I’m a massive fan of Richard Linklater’s filmography, and his latest action comedy, while a departure from his more grounded work, is a welcome gift.
Hit Man is written by both Linklater and Powell and you can tell how much fun they’re having with this ‘somewhat’ true story. Powell is excellent as Gary Johnson, a nebbish professor who is thrown into undercover operations to catch would-be murderers paying a hitman to off their person of choice. We’ve gotten Powell the fighter jet pilot, Powell the rom-com guy, and now we’re getting Powell the chameleon. It’s such a fun ride, mostly because the film doesn’t take itself too seriously. Powell really gets to showcase his comedic charm here, and he’s well-matched by Adria Arjona, who plays Gary’s would-be love interest and possible murder suspect.
