What Makes The Substance Horror Film So BLOODY Addictive?
Have you seen The Substance yet? It snagged Best Screenplay at Cannes and even scored a 13-minute standing ovation! But honestly, the thrill is in the movie-watching experience-hands clapping, face scratching, and total engagement. This is an unforgettable ride, tackling the desire to create a younger, perfect version of yourself through a mind-bending drug.
Demi Moore stars as Elizabeth Sparkle, a washed-up movie star turned fitness guru who discovers a way to birth her doppelgänger, Sue (Margaret Qualley), and the film dives into identity, addiction, and the chaos that ensues when two versions of yourself share time. Trust me, this film is a blast-you won’t want to miss it!
In my latest review, I talk about social anxiety around standing ovation participation, why The Substance works so well, and the reasons to watch this film even if body horror isn’t your jam.

Killer Heat Movie Review | 10 Fatal Flaws Of Private Investigator Nick Bali
มุมมอง 10012 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Killer Heat is a contemporary noir film with not much going for it. Fortunately, the film is under 90 minutes and showcases the sun-drenched charm of Crete, making you feel like you’re on a dreamy vacation-until you realize there’s no real thrill to savor. Despite the title, this film doesn’t ignite any sparks-more like a gentle summer breeze than the blazing inferno it promises. So, if you’re ...
The BEST and WORST of Lyle and Erik Menendez Story TV Review
มุมมอง 5Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story grapples with the ethics of dramatization in true crime. As journalist Dominick Dunne (Nathan Lane) notes, society has grown weary of sensationalized narratives surrounding the Menendez brothers. While visually striking and featuring compelling performances from Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch, this series often veers into explo...
James McAvoy's Thriller Speak No Evil Will Leave You SPEECHLESS!
มุมมอง 3.4K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
This summer, if you saw the trailer for Speak No Evil everywhere, you probably got a sneak peek of the plot-yep, it reveals quite a bit. But the film turns out to be a blast, especially with a lively audience. Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy are comedic gold in the latter half, bringing physical humor to their high-stakes predicament, while James McAvoy infuses the film with his trademark cha...
The Perfect Couple TV Review | Nicole Kidman’s Netflix Limited Series Explained

If you're thinking The Perfect Couple limited series on Netflix feels like a mash-up of The White Lotus and Big Little Lies, you're on the right track. Set in the luxurious world of Nantucket, the show follows the wealthy Winbury family as they gather for a lavish wedding weekend that turns chaotic when a body washes ashore. The cast delivers a fantastic ensemble performance: Kidman is in her e...
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Movie Review | Why You Need To Watch Tim Burton's Original
มุมมอง 4.7K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
If you’re planning to see the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, I highly recommend watching the original 1988 film beforehand. While you’ll enjoy Burton’s sequel in its own right, revisiting the original will deepen your appreciation, especially if you didn’t grow up with it. In yet another sequel this Summer, Burton expands the whimsical world of the first film. Winona Ryder returns as Lydia Deetz,...
The Deliverance Movie Review | What You May Not Know About Lee Daniel’s Netflix Thriller
มุมมอง 3.3K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
Lee Daniels' new Netflix thriller, The Deliverance, perfectly illustrates why I’ll never own a home with a basement. Seriously, has anything good ever come from a basement in a film? In this chilling faith-based thriller, Daniels, known for his gripping storytelling, presents a tale where a single mother is trying to care for her children while contending with a demonic presence already residin...
Blink Twice Movie Review | Zoe Kravitz's Thrilling Debut Has An Ace Up Its Sleeve
มุมมอง 3Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut 'Blink Twice' is nothing short of mesmerizing. The film boasts electrifying performances from Naomi Ackie of 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' and Adria Arjona from 'Hit Man' while its frantic, disjointed structure weaves an intensely immersive atmosphere of dread. The plot follows Frida, who, along with her friend Jess (played by Alia Shawkat), is transported to a l...
What Makes It Ends with Us a Cut Above Other Romance Films
มุมมอง 5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Justin Baldoni’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us is very faithful to the novel, and he manages to piece together a coherent, intimate portrait of a woman reconciling with being in an abusive relationship that mirrors her violent and fraught upbringing. Blake Lively is quietly brilliant as Lily Bloom, who, in the novel, is actually 23. But this doesn’t matter because Baldoni gives...
Cracking The Code of Legacy Sequels with Alien Romulus Movie Review

It’s so refreshing to watch a well-executed action film that grosses you out as much as it surprises you and Alien: Romulus hits the sweet spot. Directed by Fede Alvarez, his take on the brilliant world of Ridley Scott’s Alien is a triumph. Not only does he favor performances through cinematographer Galo Olivares’s sweeping shots of an abandoned spaceship harboring terrifying creatures, but, al...

Is Society of the Snow the MOST Devastating Plane Crash Movie of 2024?
I feel like the series is neutral, not taking sides, which has upset many people. But deep down, I believe Eric and Lyle are in the right. The abuse did happen.
Yep.. it’s a horrific story all round
Great list!
Thanks for watching!!
It's on my list! I want to see what all this Nick Bali stuff is about.
Lol he's the worst. The absolute worst
The scenario was messed-up. It's like Murphy took some informations from the case and he just put them side by side to make 9 episodes without really organize them, to connect every detail together or something....and he put some false things to glamourize and sexualize the brothers, just for entertainment🤦♀️. He even made them gay for each other....wtf? As someone who knows the case well, the timeline and all the important elements were not really treated well: the psychology of the brothers, the family, the parents...and most of all the TRIAL!: testimonies, the war between the defense and the prosecutor.... Nothing really happens! There's just a murder, Lyle et Erik, investigation, some bling bling and 80's pop music to glamourize the thing, a trial and jail for Lyle and Erik. The end....again: wtf?
Right on! Nothing really happens and it was pretty frustrating
Ryan Murphy take on Menendez Brothers is a fantasy murder. If your into true crime this might not be it.
Totally! A fantasy for arts (and Emmys) sake
The narrator pronounced "Dunne" wrong.
Great catch, thanks for watching!
I dislike the gay theme because it lying to the public about the brothers. Both brothers were into girls before they committed the crime. I also hear Erik Menendez dislike how Ryan Murphy depicted his character. Like you said in your video neither Ryan or Netflix hasn't bother to talk with the family or any of the people who know the brothers.
I don’t know how many more these ‘Monsters’ seasons I can stomach
@@thewanderingscreen Me neither. I made a decision after watch this season, that I'm not bothering to watch another.
I’m with you. The next season with Charlie Hannam looks like it will be much of the same.. queer undertones/attractive killer, and probably four episodes too long
@@thewanderingscreen Why is it they only showing those type of killers. I'm sure there are other cases that don't have queer killers. Watch any Unsolved Mystery and you will see dozen there.
@@thewanderingscreenYou don't have to watch them. Problem solved.
I’VE BEEN SAYING THIS!!! “A formulaic approach to shock value” by mixing homoeroticism with m*rder. No thanks, Ryan 🚫🤦🏾♂️🚮
Just finished this!! Loved the himbo oldest son and Dakota Fanning’s character-scene stealers for sure! And I also adored the intro! To me it suited a show that often felt like a dark comedy, and this hyper choreographed and synchronized group dance felt like it was pointing to the carefully perfected facade that Nicole Kidman’s character has created. As for the ending-I did not see the reveal coming. I was satisfied by it! But the scene at the zoo… I didn’t buy that at all. It felt like the scene was trying to redeem Kidman’s character in a way that rang false and felt unwarranted and uninteresting… what did you think about the ending??
I wasn’t a fan of the ending either. Firstly, why would you give someone a printed script when you can clearly see she’s working with an animal and their standing by a body of water. And second, since she didn’t marry into the family, was there going to be a royalty situation? I didn’t see the point of the scene and also thought they were trying to redeem nicole with a less nasty smile
Great review - I also felt like this season was more watchable, but definitely veers into that icky territory that Dahmer does.
I agree that it was more watchable. There was far more entertainment value with Menendez
0wwaL@@thewanderingscreen
it could be four episode , it was too long
Totally and it would’ve been much better for it.
Thank God for this show let the new generation who are supporting them see the reality Love the review
Thanks for watching!
I watched the first few episodes and agree with you that there’s too much going on. I was confused by the timeline too. Fascinating review!
I hope you made it to the fifth episode at least. That’s the best of the whole season by far
Go Mashew!!! Great review!! ❤️🥇❤️
Thank you!
I watched a double feature yesterday, which helped make me realize that even the first movie had quite a few plotholes, and since the sequel amplifies everything the 1st movie did, the parts which don‘t follow regular storytelling logic are also more apparent. It doesn‘t matter, though. The movie clearly doesn‘t give a sh*t, it‘s just a cartoony homage to horror movies.
I did enjoy that the film didn’t take itself too seriously
Love the review! I saw this on the big screen in Tokyo (the session had English subtitles). Such a great film!
Glad you enjoyed it!
McAvoy was indeed, very easy to watch. Did not see that twist coming.
I had my suspicions about the twist. I’ll never grow tired of McAvoy
I haven’t watched this one yet but excited to watch!
Totally worth it! 😊
I loved Beetlejuice Beetlejuice but I agree I benefitted from having rewatched Beetlejuice the previous day
I’m so glad I did too. I had only seen the original once a few years back, so the rewatch really helped appreciate the details of the sequel
@@thewanderingscreen yeah I mean there are some things like Delia's sculptures in the school which I wouldn't have noticed in BJBJ otherwise
Awesome review Matthew!!❤️❤️❤️❤️🥇
Thanks so much!
Great review! Willem Dafoe was hilarious
Glad you enjoyed it!
No one can tell me they didn't have fun watching this. So good - great review!
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed
After watching this movie, I have more questions than answers...🤔
It will make for a really fun rewatch!
I thought the film was really wild, too. Lee Daniels takes some big swings!
I thought he did a great job. It's thoroughly entertaining
Love your take on this Matt
Thanks, Gem!
Great review!! Although what I really want to know is when are you going to take over hollywood and get in front of the camera!? Love your work x
Scorcese just called me for his next film, and I told him to get in line :)
A great review Matthew. I can’t wait to see this movie!!! ❤
I’m sure you’ll enjoy it ❤
East west east west!! Really enjoyed this one-great review! Love your insightful read of the cinematography and jarring cuts! On the whole I found this film really captivating, too. Not sure how convinced I was by the ending? But I enjoyed the film’s contradictions. The beauty and the horror. And how successfully it straddled the line between thriller and comedy-how I laughed through my discomfort and felt discomfort when I laughed.
I wasn’t too convinced by the ending either and loved the uncomfortable humor. I can’t wait to see what Zoe Kravitz does next
I saw this last weekend and really enjoyed it
Im so glad to hear it!
Cool analysis, review, and breakdown (I just joined your channel fam). I saw Alien: Romulus last weekend, and "man oh man" was it intense, scary, and VERY beautiful (Cinematography). I'm looking forward to catching it again in theaters.
Thanks for joining the fam! I can’t wait to watch this in a packed cinema again
😮😮😮😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I was unexpectedly moved by this film! I saw it with my pregnant friend and that ending hit hard for us. That’s such a great point about all the questions. Where ARE her friends?? What was she doing before she opened the flower shop?? Why was she on that roof?? I mean, come on we know that swanky complex had security and keycards. I will say though, I loved that scene-it was funny, sexy, and acknowledged how corny it is that he’s a neurosurgeon and her name is Lily Blossom Bloom (🙄). It was almost as if the film was winking at us and apologizing for the tropes at the same time, and it totally worked for me! Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively had great chemistry-I never would have suspected the beef. And he had an incredible emotional range in this film. Too bad a sequel seems unlikely. Can you make a video reviewing the book? Pretty please with a cherry on top??
That would require me reading the novel again and.. now that the film version is out (and better) 🤷🏼 So glad to hear you liked the film too! I totally got swept in it and now I want to own a flower shop

Yes. Yes I do. And it bites
Go Mashew!! ❤️❤️
Thank you!
I can't wait to see it!
It's so worth it, and the third act gets insane
Loved the movie but didn’t like the book.
Interesting! I haven’t read the book so thanks for letting me know
Loved the film and your take on it!
Thanks for watching!
Loved this movie. I've watched it more than once just to catch all the nuances as Nick's character, Hayes, tries to figure out how to make what he sees as a once-in-a-lifetime connection a reality and help Ann's character, Solene, overcome her reservations. And, the music is sooo upbeat and catchy, I'm using it for exercise.
I’ve gotta give this a rewatch. Maybe when it starts getting colder and I can curl up in a blanket. Ultimate romcom viewing experience
Great review Mashew!! Too scary for me!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪
The Soundtrack was ok, but the Score didn't impress me like Mark Macina's work on Twister. I noticed 4 to 5 different melodies on the original film, but I couldn't identify any for this new movie. Maybe I have to go buy the score to give it more in depth listen. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Twisters but like the original, I still had some dislikes. Mostly meteorology dislikes (even though there were some improvements).
I was definitely unimpressed by the score. The sound effects of the storm would’ve been so much more effective
BH
Movie was ass
It doesn’t sound like you enjoyed it. Was it too predictable?
I wouldn't say complete ass, but definitely underwhelming. Was surprised so many people liked it.
@@trashmonetI was underwhelmed by the procedural aspect of the story but was so engrossed in the craft of it
Great review! Can’t wait to see this one
It’s so good I hope you enjoy it!
Sooooo I shouldn’t watch it?! 😭
You should definitely watch it and report back 😊
Incidentally, the name, Solène is *not* pronounced Soleen.
🤣🤣
I LOVE the Twisters soundtrack. I just picked up the vinyl!
I didn’t know it was available! Good to know 😊
