It is so sad that a life has been taken because of divorce and custody. A father who just wants to be part of his children's life. I hope Dan Markel will receive justice.
@Kakwasi My sons paternal great grandmother & her son were gunned down bc he wanted to be a father too, just like Dan, after a long custody battle. He went to pick up his daughter and his exs Dad came out & shot him & his mom & turned the gun on himself. We were able to grieve them in 2010 when it happened. The Markel's are still going through this bs bc of this awful family. Breaks my heart for them.

Yea , she was good, but my favorite opening statements come from the Chandler Halderson trial, if you haven't seen it ,then you should give it a watch, just type chandler halderson opening statements, it's a terrible case, Chandler was on trial for murdering his parents and dismembered their bodies, he his body parts all over southern Wisconsin, he wasn't even close to getting away with it, Attorney William Brown gave the opening statements, its like nothing I've never seen before. Here we are 2 years later and this mess is still going on. The people who actually killed him have been convicted as well as Ms Magbanua. Charlie Adelson was just recently arrested and I pray Donna and Wendi Adelson are next. Only then will justice be served.

Cappleman is a badass. I love her confident methodical style. I’d hate to be the defendant. She handled Charlie’s smugness with relative ease. I think most prosecutors would have lost their focus and effectiveness questioning him. She didn’t.
Not really. Only the middleman (Magbauno) and the guy (Sigfredo or Rivera) who pulled the trigger. The wealthy family (The Adelsons) that ordered and paid for the hit haven't been charged. It looks like they're getting off Scott free. Only in America. Only the poor folks go to jail. The wealthy and highly educated usually dont.

Does anyone else feel like this opening statement lacks oomph in it's delivery? She is so dispassionate and doesn't use all of the verbal and nonverbal elements of language combined with the flat narrative type of presentational style she chose.
i think normally opening statements focus on motive, but because the person with the most motive in this case is wendi, she decided to focus on the hard facts instead. but i agree, it's bland, complicated, and hard to follow, and takes way too long to introduce the actual defendants into the narrative

If Luis had not been arrested for racketeering this case would have remained unsolved. Horrible investigative work. Opening statements reference it taking 2 years to compile evidence. Nope. You retrieved your evidence after given all the info by Luis & only went after the ones who couldn't afford to hire a dream team of attorneys. I feel so sad for Markels parents. Justice truly has not been served. The killers are still free. Power is in the money and status in this case.
So after watching this, the prosecutor doesn’t even name WHO the defendants are!! She just says “these 2 defendants.” Is she ONLY prosecuting the 2 hired lackeys?!? Did she not prosecute Charlie Adelson, the guy who HIRED AND PAID OFF the killers??? I feel more than sure that Donna and Wendy are where this begins. Perhaps Donna more than Wendy, but this was a family affair. It was a mistake to combine the two trials. Two different defence stories then add in the Prosecution's version of events and you have a complex, convoluted mess. It's not fair to the defendants Katie completely innocent and big question marks about Sigfredo"s involvement also, but it's difficult to see because Georgia and co have muddied the waters with their assumptions and confirmation bias

Seriously, I hope you use this opportunity to analyze yourself. You now have clear proof that you were completely wrong about something you seemed so sure of in your comments and the prosecution that you mocked was proven completely correct. You should use this to better yourself and not let yourself be taken in so easily because of bias or misinformation. Otherwise you'll just keep making the same mistakes and keep being the naive, easily manipulated person that you were.
This opening statement is just such a mess. There’s no hook keeping us interested. She’s just piling out information with 11:46 she even says herself with a sigh that this is a lot.
The state of Florida has an excellent case against these two defendants. Unfortunately for justice, it does not have an excellent prosecutor. Georgia Cappleman is when at her best mediocre, but most often she's ineffective and at times almost incompetent. In her opening arguments Cappleman muddles thru what is otherwise a clear and compelling line of evidence leading directly to not only the defendants but also the Adelmans. She leaves the jury focused on mundane ancillary issues and obscures Wendi Adelman's ultimate involvement, and hence what should be the state's theory of the case.
Well he was convicted and is rotting in prison for life so good thing certain moronic people with no understanding of evidence did not end up in this jury or this killer would've escaped justice.
Please get a better prosecutor to present this case. Cappelman stumbles even in the beginning when she has a script in front of her. It's like listening to a high schooler learning how to debate for the first time. She needs to use a better tone and speech to paint a picture with a captivating narrative and compelling evidence to back it up. The police did a good job but she's not using their hard earned evidence effectively. Justice for Dan Markel!

He didn’t want to. He was and actually the leader over 100 others. He took a plea for reduced sentence of 19 years instead of life.
He was the leader since he was 14/15.

They only need to get a guilty verdict on Katherine Magbanua thats what their goal was so that she would be opened to a bargin plea that would involve giving out the names of the people who hired her and all the names of the people involved . They dont even care about Katherine Magbanua what they are aiming at is the Andelson family specially Windi and her mom . You can clearly see that the prossecuter puts the accent on the Adelson's family and who had the most motives to hire a hit man on windi's husband .this is to influence the jury so that she can make a plea bargin with Katherine Magbanua so that she will spill the beans if ever she wants to see her kids again one day . Her entire case is based on those expectations to bring the real killers to justiceand conspiracy to commit murder with an actual murder case always finish with death row or real life without parole with no possibility of freedom
Cappleman is a badass. I love her confident methodical style. I’d hate to be the defendant. She handled Charlie’s smugness with relative ease. I think most prosecutors would have lost their focus and effectiveness questioning him. She didn’t.

Does anyone else feel like this opening statement lacks oomph in it's delivery? She is so dispassionate and doesn't use all of the verbal and nonverbal elements of language combined with the flat narrative type of presentational style she chose.

i think normally opening statements focus on motive, but because the person with the most motive in this case is wendi, she decided to focus on the hard facts instead. but i agree, it's bland, complicated, and hard to follow, and takes way too long to introduce the actual defendants into the narrative

Justice truly has not been served. The killers are still free. Power is in the money and status in this case.

The state of Florida has an excellent case against these two defendants. Unfortunately for justice, it does not have an excellent prosecutor. Georgia Cappleman is when at her best mediocre, but most often she's ineffective and at times almost incompetent.
In her opening arguments Cappleman muddles thru what is otherwise a clear and compelling line of evidence leading directly to not only the defendants but also the Adelmans. She leaves the jury focused on mundane ancillary issues and obscures Wendi Adelman's ultimate involvement, and hence what should be the state's theory of the case.
in her defense, this is not a trail for the family that caused Dans death ...... the trial is only about the two who were arrested and did not plea

Please get a better prosecutor to present this case. Cappelman stumbles even in the beginning when she has a script in front of her. It's like listening to a high schooler learning how to debate for the first time. She needs to use a better tone and speech to paint a picture with a captivating narrative and compelling evidence to back it up.
