What a great artist and just all-round seems like a really great person! Love the self-depricating very British sense of humour! Very Well-deserved, great choice Jackson's!
I liked the Estate painting before you won. Interesting subject matter. Liked the way you approached and depicted the painting, thought it was intelligent, sensitive and evocative. I’ve often thought Estates would be an interesting subject matter but I just didn’t feel inspired to want to paint them 😄 but I really liked your painting of one. Some of your other Estate paintings are more about the landscape and the estate seems lost almost non visible. I personally like the visibility of the estate….I’m intrigued to see more of the estate. I live in Bournemouth next to an estate. The estates are here in the town but have big green spaces next to them. They have lots of trees lining the roads ….they look good ….wouldn’t want to live in one though! Lots of trouble daily/nightly, helicopters flying over very regularly! The one near me has a big common, lovely for a walk, great for dog walkers! Good luck with your endeavours, really like your work and the effort you put into it. 😊 Interested to see what work you do next. Congratulations on your success! 🙏
Such an essence of Turner. Each piece seems such a work of effort and analysis. Thank you for bringing your inspiring eye to an audience. Bests from the Pacific NW, USA
Great video; very interesting artist and wow, what an evocative subject - wonderful paintings! I remember seeing an MA show at the Royal College of Art some years ago and the one piece of work that struck me was a beautiful drawing of a 1960's house that make up the ubiquitous housing estate that Andrew's work depicts. They (the estate) speak volumes about the UK. Thanks Jackson's, and well deserved Andrew Torr!
Congratulations, on the prize AND on the work: and yes - painting water is more than a challenge, it's a form of torture... but great when it comes off.
Congratulations Andrew! Stunning work. Thank you for sharing your thoughts behind your subjects and your process. Finding beauty and meaning in scenes we so often take for granted.
The seepage of light into city clouds is a treat, and the dance of line and flat form; habitation as rural field - a pleasure to see. Details of architecture as light music.
Absolutely fantastic ... what excellent work! I'm so glad to chance upon your stuff - and congratulate you on the prize - but, more so, on what you're discovering about, well, society - English culture - and 'art' and just about paint itself ... I don't see anything overtly political - it's far better than that... It's long distance - even in close up, if that makes sense... You are a worthy winner - and I pray you keep going and "keep smiling through" - as old Vera Lynn would say! God Bless England.
Above all the work looks amazing, which is usually nowhere near the top of the list of requirements in the visual arts. What’s usually most important these days is a DEI agenda, so I’m so surprised to see a white male winning anything! Nice to see Jackson’s running a meritocratic competition. Well deserved award. I also recognise the generic 1970s estates, as I grew up on one. Excellent stuff.
Painting from a photograph... is copying a photograph. Does he also enter the photographs he painted them from, in the photography section? Its substance is 'how the poor live'. housing estates against the contrast of barren landscapes... but he's painting exactly what's on the snap. It's an affectation ...of pretending to be a painting.
Congratulations, Andrew! Lovely work and a very interesting backstory.
Lovely work, lovely human being.

Fine examples of painting what's in front of so many people, but with your "eye" and perceptions...
New painting genre: Barrett new build housing crisis deanobox-scapes
Why are the houses called estates? Is it like a slum? Estates here are a big house with lots of property.
it's the marketing, I guess...lipstick on a pig
