Scrap yard picks these vehicles up with a fork lift, damaged the drive shaft. I would drop the pan and inspect the bottom end, after you try to turn it over by hand. It is a 305 but perfect to learn on!
I’m the younger fella that was part of pulling it out, boy what a job that one was. But I myself noticed the floor, pedals etc. I’d bet that’s an original 27k. It was cool to help.

The silver box you had that was new is an external regulator. Older cars didn't have internal regulator like they do now. Back then the cars had seperate alternator and regulator. Just like older cars had ignition points and no electronic ignition.

If you gonna do this stuff, get you a good 12k winch and snatch blocks(multiple) and you can pull the devil out of hell with it. Bout 3 recovery’s and you have paid for it vs tow trucks. Also, standing that close to the cable with tension on it is a sure fire way to find out the definition of laceration
My 1980 with 305 doesn't have a single solid or undented body panel, but I still love it and drive it around like a weekend Cadillac, lol. If my truck were as straight and rust free as yours, I'd be dreaming up all kinds of improvements for it. You definitely have a truck worth putting money and effort into. 350 and a new driveshaft should get you well on your way!
Bit of an oddball, I love it. Cruise control, gauges, A/C, dual tanks, looks to have an AM/FM radio but no tilt, no dome light, very little else. Like it was ordered for long distance comfort.
@@okspeedshop It's going to be a fun build, longbeds are underloved. My little sister has a 1973 Chevy Cheyenne C30 she is restoring, a 454 truck that she saved after it was abandoned. Teaching her what to look for in regards to parts, the differences between years has been fun for her.

If you got it to fix. Fix it looks like a pretty nice old truck definitely drop the oil pan and pull the valve covers and check it all out good one to learn from makes for good content and videos 👍🤞

If from maine so our definition of restorable means it only needs floor pans, rockers, cab corners, can mounts, fenders, rear wheel arches, every single brake and fuel line, and half the frame patched up, lol. But I believe in being honest and calling it like it is. When I sell vehicles i specifically list every thing wrong, that way when someone shows up, they can't go through a point put a dent or a Crack in the dash and then want money off.
I agree, it doesn't look good. I think I would put old diesel in it, cheaper. In the oil filler thing and the cylinders. And check, like the other one, if it will in fact turn. Then I would assume that an oil pan and a new dipstick would be within the budget. Great video, dude!
First Of All You Need To Put A Wrench On The Crankshaft And See If It Is Locked Up, If Not Then Drop The Oilpan. Could Be Just A Busted Oilpan, If So Get Another One.
Hmm not sure, where did you see it? In the engine bay? The coolant and washer reservoirs were both in there and busted. Is that what you’re referring to?
Put 5 quarts of cheap oil on it, fired up see what it does doesn't matter if it leaks all them old engines have sludge in them I've had about 15 of them
My guess is whatever hit the driveline also hit the oil pan ? Grab onto the crank pulley and see if this motor spins before you buy anything else for it.
@@okspeedshop you bet, id hate to see you waste money on a motor that's toast. If it were me I'd pull the plugs, put some marvel mystery oil down the cylinders and let it soak then try to spin it over by hand. If she spins pull the pan and investigate why it looked the way it did it could have lost oil and spun a rod bearing (let's hope not) and ended up in the salvage yard.
With only 27,000 miles on that motor Young Buck I think you ought to just take it out and recondition it put some new Flapjack head gaskets on it clean up that lower crank and then put some whooping to it With some high tech rocket fuel

Seems like to me that booger snot is 3,000 and outdated you cannot use that stuff in 2024 you need boogers snot 5,005 extra holding extreme weather condition boogers snot formula ! X.

There's a box under the storm column you can hook up rod you can start it and you and you can shift it
Drop the pan check the cylinder to see if there's any rust

Take the dust cover off in front of the transmission that will give you room to take the bolts out of the oil pan

Pull the oil pan and make sure its all crapped up. Did you even try turning the engine by hand yet to see if it was locked?
I wasn’t sure if it would hurt it since there’s no oil in it and what is in it is like flakes
@@okspeedshop you cant hurt it by taking the pan off. If you do swap to a 350 it will bolt right up to the trans in it.
