If the first 3 cards face up cards dealt were to be for example Ace Jack and Queen then no cards are added but your key card will be the 27th card in the deck.

That's right. In that instance you wouldn't need to subtract anything from 26, so they'd deal 26 cards and then place the next card aside. Thanks for watching! 👍

Okay, so remember the 4th card and then add to 10 on the three piles, count face-down cards, subtract from 20, and the 21st card is the 4th card. Am I correct?
