My baby hates tummy time. He either suck on his fingers or just turns back now as he learnt to roll back. I bought so many toys which were supposed to encourage him for tummy time but nothing really helped. Any suggestions to make him love tummy time?
Most babies hate tummy time on the floor , you can try doing a few minutes of tummy time on your chest then to the floor at a time for 10 mins 4 times a day and they should eventually stop fussing when on tummy time!
The tips are great thank you. Regarding Tummy time for at least 80 minutes a day. Isn't that a bit too much? How would we break that down into multiple sessions?
Yes I realize it sounds like a lot, but we want to have the baby spending as much time playing on the floor, and limit use of baby gear, to give them an opportunity to strengthen the muscles that will make it possible for them to roll over, crawl and then walk in the upcoming months. If your baby can go for 20 minutes at a time, you can plan 4 tummy time sessions throughout the day. If your baby will only do 15 minutes, then you can do 5 sessions throughout the day. You will need to have your baby distracted and playing while doing tummy time for them to enjoy it and want to do it. It’s great that your baby is rolling around. Do the best you can to find ways to interest her to do tummy time. I have a separate video, you might find helpful, that goes into more detail: th-cam.com/video/vLGsbj17fkU/w-d-xo.html
Rona thank you for your question. It's common for babies to hate tummy time, it's hard work for them. I have another video that talks about ways to get babies to enjoy it more: th-cam.com/video/vLGsbj17fkU/w-d-xo.html Find an approach that your baby tolerates better and keep giving him practice on a daily basis.
Prathiba thank you for watching my video. Something you can try doing is placing the palm of your hand over your baby's feet when she's on her tummy. This will help her be able to push off of and move forward. I demonstrate this technique and several others in my video dedicated on teaching a baby to crawl: th-cam.com/video/VYlz_j0V4Qk/w-d-xo.html You may find this helpful.
Thank you for watching this video. All babies develop at their own individual pace. I would not be concerned just yet about the baby's development. Since your 5 month old is already rolling from back to tummy, I would focus on doing activities to try to help the baby master rolling from tummy to back. Each baby develops at their own individual pace, and some babies take a little longer to master the skill set. Give your baby plenty of tummy time and opportunities to practice rolling over. I have a separate video on how to teach a baby to roll over that goes into detail on things you can do.
I know this is a 6mo question, however, they’ll play with anything. I use to make shakers by putting stuff into old water bottles and gluing the top on. You can also make sensory bags but putting stuff into one ziplock bag and then put that into another stronger ziplock. You can have them squish paint around under a piece of Saran Wrap or inside a ziplock on paper or old cardboard. You can put things into a tissue box and let them pull it out. You can use oatmeal containers or something similar for “posting” by cutting holes/slits in the top that can fit cards or q-tips. You can lay a blanket down outside and just let them explore.
My baby entered in 4th month and starting rolling 🎉
