Alaska State Fair - [Living in Alaska Day 10]

- Palmer, Alaska hosts the annual Alaska State Fair and it runs through the last 2 weeks of August. Although the ride selection is a bit small and the carnival games are limited, there are lots of great local venders, shows and exhibits to see. The highlights of our experience were seeing the giant vegetables, trying the free food samples (which were amazing) and watching the lumberjacks do their thing. Personally, I thought this fair would be much bigger since everything in Alaska seems so over the top but for what it lacks in midway, it makes up for in heart.

I LOVE that in 0:41 you get video bombed by the guy in the green shirt with the baby stroller. The fair seemed like so much fun! I love anything Native American so I really enjoyed the dance. I smiled this whole video, thank you for sharing! -Emma

I would make them longer but it would take forever to upload. As it is, videos this long take 8 hours.

DudeLikeHELLA I know some carriers have mobile hotspots that you can buy that charge like a phone but they act like a wifi router by connecting to a satilight and beaming down the connection. Of the ones I have seen they can have fast upload speeds, but i have no clue if they have those available in that state.
Hi Cory. The thing that keeps me subscribed to your channel is videos like this where you’ve simply gone out and discovered local treasures and lived your life to the full. It doesn’t really matter what you’re doing, your enjoyment of each day is what consistently brings me back. Keep living each day to its fullest my friend, it’s the best way to have no regrets later.

Hey, Im a resident of Alaska and I've been born and raised for almost 19 years now. May 18th is actually my birthday so not too far away. I live within the Matsu-Valley where the State Fair takes place. I have NEVER missed a single year of the Fair. I always enjoy my time, the food, rides, games, and the people, and vendors and booths are amazing!! The crowd is always nice and they are fun to be around. It is definitely something the Community of Alaska has done from many many years, and I will never give up my spot as a Alaskan even when I die ^_^

Love the lumberjack shows! They have that at the Minnesota State Fair as well!
We also have that kind of wood cuting sports in the Basque Country! They are a little different, but they are cool.
I miss going to the fair! I haven't been in years. Glad I got to see this one through your eyes.
State fairs are awesome! We always ride the Grande wheel and sometimes the water flume if it's hot. Then we look at the vendors and animals, then we eat stuff! Bar b que and fried snickers, big honking donuts and lemonade, all that good stuff!
You will probably need a snowmobile and snowblower if you live that far out of town. No telling how deep the snow will be, and you can still get to the store if it's bad! Also - start your wood pile as soon as you're in the house!!
Man, you should have ridden the salmon, that looked fun!

Reminds me of all the fall fairs I have participated in in Quesnel, I was the one with the fancy bantam chickens :) Also showed a ton of other animals, it was so much fun :)

I'm excited for your move! Sounds similar to why my husband and I moved from SoCal to Sedona Az 3 months ago. As far as Internet, if you're shopping for a provider, my .02 cents is to avoid satellite as it can be very expensive, have contracts, and with latency. We had HughesNet briefly; lots of problems with that company and customer support, and we were finally able to get out of our contract w/o penalty. We went with a local WiFi provider which is much better. Stick through any adjustments, it is worth living close to nature, it is so good for our spirits!

I think it's so crazy how we have had awesome wonderful weather for the last two weeks here in Palmer Ak and then Sunday it decides to rain cuz the fair started Friday. U would think the people that plan the fair would move it up to also accommodate the fact school started Thursday.

Anchorage reminds me a lot of growing up in the interior of B.C., even the fairs are almost exactly the same.
These blogs have gotten so much better since you moved to Alaska. At first I thought you were kinda crazy to move all the way there, but now I think I was wrong. I also really like seeing Kristen in the vlogs. :)
Life has definitely changed for the better. I just needed a big reboot.
