Our entire town was wiped out by a f5 tornado. Samaritans purse came and are still here 3 yrs later they've built homes installed shelters , counseled, prayed for us but they stayed!!!! Its been so awesome having them help when frankly the state and fema did what little they do and leave.

I give to them monthly because of how great they are

Fema doesn't do what Samaritans purse can. They are NOT a boots on the ground rescue. They provide cash and sign people up for grants and loans to rebuild where possible. Even the real estate is gone along with the roads. Individual municipality and churches are what sets up the immediate temporary support for people because they know the areas affected

We give to Samaritans purse. They do so so much and they follow through, not just there for a few days. They are also, in most cases, first boots on the ground.

its not surprising as those leading us Expect just that,,they step in to spew what and how its going to be,but when those country folk that out numbers them that know and fema knows they have more knowledgeable skills at taking care of their own than anyone else,,they tuck their tails and go back to their hideouts. The only 1's I have ever seen respond and usually 1st on scene Samaritans Purse and Operation Blessing,,but not seen O.B. lately, but SP is the 1 to support as they go over and beyond. Fema should step down totally and let SP do their willingness and Pay them, and they don't need the instructors that can't wait to leave a scene. All My heart and Love goes out to all affected,my roots are from Cherokee and still have cousins never met all through those mtns. Hard to sleep at night, knowing its chilling down there, elders can't tolerate sometimes as young 1's do. May All have whatever is needed and heal as much as possible and ,soon.❤

I lived through many horrendous hurricanes in FL but nothing compares with this destruction. Lord, we are here to help. Please keep inspiring us what You want us to do. God bless you all and thanks to Bri & Art for reaching out to their community.

I saw you work on Justin Rhodes' hay barn and also heard you mention going out to help someone figure out thier spring in the farm visit video. These types of "little" things are monumental for the individuals involved.
In someone else's video, he had a roofing guy with his truck next door or a couple of doors down. He walked up to the guy and they spent a day removing a big oak from his roof and getting it tarped up; I think some other neighbors helped. In turn they worked on other houses in the neighborhood because at the time no one was leaving home because of the multiple road conditions.
And yes, the "little" things like hay for one person, Starlink for another, chainsaw bar oil and 2 cycle oil, etc... are the world for those trying to hang on.

Absolutely! Last year in Jan/Feb we had massive flooding and then right on the heels of that a freak snowstorm (we get maybe an inch every 2-3 years) that left almost a foot of snow and knocked trees and power lines down all over. Random neighbors showed up and cut the trees in the roads, it took over 3 days to clear them, and another 3 or 4 to get the power lines restored. I had torn my rotator cuff in my shoulder and only had one useable arm at the time ( all healed now). Neighbors who could get out to the power that was still on, walked in and brought me a charged phone charger, filled my stove propane tank, and loaned me a generator after mine was destroyed by a fallen tree. Don't particularly like California, but I am blessed with great neighbors! PS This was also after years in a row of evacuations due to wildfires.

My son-in-law works at the Samaritan’s Purse in Wilkesboro and is currently there in Asheville. He works on the medical side of it and has traveled all over the world with them. So I’m glad you are encouraging people to contact them. My husband wants to be there so badly, but he’s 71 and has lung issues (plus he’s taking care of me because I just had surgery Friday), and was saying even if he just picked up trash, he could help. He volunteered with cleanup from Katrina so he knows what to expect. I’m glad you are sharing this update. The media is trying to minimize it but those of us who know people there know it’s much worse than they are telling us. You are all in our prayers. - Sue Sweeten in AZ

Thank you for your family member working for Samaritan's Purse! Such a wonderful organization that really knows what they're doing. Art and Bri, I am so sorry that your area has been stricken so hard by Hurricane Helene. I know that we had an event in 1982, where we had 13" of rain within a couple of hours. I had to drive by and pick up my husband at the cabinet shop where he worked. He wasn't quite ready to leave because they were putting a number of wooden (cherry, oak, etc.) custom-built pantries, vanities, and custom-built kitchen cabinets up on concrete blocks to try to keep them out of the water which was flooding into the building. The electricity went out and we were wading water. A sudden rise in the water levels of the parking lot, and only by the brave guys who worked with my husband, who had a very large four-wheel drive pickup truck and towed my car sort of up a hill out of the flood waters which would have ruined the car. We waded water 3.5 feet deep to get out of the shop. One subdivision was flooded that day, and just after a couple of days, another torrential storm a few days later, ruining the repairs that had already been initiated. So I have a little (very little) idea of what you are going through. I am so thankful that your area is pulling together to get through the horrible storm. I wish all of you the very best. It's very irritating to me that FEMA has failed the people of North Carolina.

It’s such a bad time for such a disaster to happen too. We usually help (even though are low income) but can’t financially contribute anymore. Our landlord is selling is finding a rental home with 7 kids is impossible, home prices unaffordable. Now, we are low income but I know people making 6 figures and even they are complaining about the tough economy.

Thanks for the info! It’s so great that you are able to give back to Elizabeth when she gave to you.
I like the new name of the channel, but am sad to see Bri step back from making content, for my sake. For your sake, I’m happy for you to order your family in a way that makes the home work better. So, are you also announcing that you two are officially back together?

Not going anywhere. You, the both of you have taught me so much and connected to a place I never thought I could or would understand. I'm from the Northwest and I never even knew we were just alike. So Art and Bri, Bri From Scratch all makes sense to be A Place Called Home. I'm so glad you are all doing well. I hope that Art doesn't have any long term physical affects tho I suspect you both and your family and all of the people from the South East are going to be feeling this for a very long time. ❤

Our area experienced flooding in 2006 and 2011...we are still dealing with flood related issues. We are to comfort others as we have been comforted. We all have something we can do to ease the burden...the first thing is pray for encouragement and hope for those who are overwhelmed.
I love hearing how people are looking outside of the box to meet needs such as family sponsorship.

Thank you so much for this helpful update and as a newcomer, I learned things about you both and what you have been through previous to the storm, during and after...A Place Called Home, that title really speaks to me as that is where my heart is and I hear Bri's heart and very much understand. God Bless - and God Strength moving foreward. Blessings from Canada's west coast.

Will be emailing yall for some additional direction. Weve donated to SP and hoping we can come up to volunteer in a bit.

I'd enjoy an episode or more of the transition, because it was such an honor to be with you both through this season.
I was enjoying and praying for you all when I started watching during your home rental time. I won't forget the wondering about you all, and my imagination had to be taken captive, by faith. Then the super surprise from Bri, that you were still out there all alive, Bri shared the heartbreaking news and continued to be truthful and honor you Art! Learning Art's journey too has been very interesting and overcoming.
I'd like to hear that you two think you'll be together forever again, but that may be too private or not time.
While Art takes the lead of the channel, I want to go on record saying, if you have an anniversary party, or renewal party, I'd like to see it on video or live streamed 😉. I'll be following the newly named channel too.
    Very Sincerely, Laural

I think there has to be some investigation in congress, into the insurance companies. Insurance for floods needs to be available at a realistic and affordable price anywhere in the country because these, unexpected tragedies need to be prepared for. Thank God for all you communities who come together.

We have had family in disaster related areas and have found that texting out of the region is the best and most assured way to communicate. We used to have key people in different portions of the US who acted as intermediaries for communication AND information. It seems as if information about what is actually going on in the disaster area is actually better and more accurate on stations which are not local.

Living in that area she really should have had food insurance, I am surprised that she could get a mortgage without having flood insurance. She is lucky that she will be able to move into her parent's basement apartment. I have donated what I can and will continue to send positive thoughts and prayers to all of those that have had their lives uprooted by this hurricane!!!
