    Seen on the PC monitor, the only difference I seem to perceive is in the color scheme: the recording on Atomos is very slightly more saturated on neutral colors (the gray of the wall behind the plane or the cloudy sky) compared to the tape while the more turned on (blue, red, yellow, orange, etc.) appear identical as the definition of the images appears identical. I believe, however, that the compression imposed by TH-cam uploading could have an impact on this.

      It was much closer than the specifications would have led me to believe. I think in the first generation it’s difficult to see a difference. I think after a few generations of copying or editing the ProRes will hold up better as nearly lossless versus MPEG2.
      I rendered it at 4K so each window was 1080p but there is still bandwidth compression.
      Thanks for watching.

    Hi, I just found you channel and subscribed, I love you content it's very informative and helpful to me. The tape was good but to me the Atomos was way better and there were a few glitches in the tape. Thank you.

    Hey I’m just finding your videos and I have a few questions on if this would work in todays world for live fighting sport events

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This camera has an amazing 20x zoom lens with three manual rings and a ton of control over every aspect of shooting. So, despite its modest 1080i native shooting, it would be good in many situations. I'm not really sure what the requirements of live fighting sport events require, but the only drawback to this camera is its size and weight. If you are mostly stationary, it's probably okay. From this video, you can see the tape or the tapeless conversion yield about the same results.
      Check out the other videos I have on this camera, and thanks for watching.

      @@WaybackRewind how do you think it would work in a stationary hard cam, and several Handel cameras roving around a ring for professional wrestling

    I just ordered a XL-H1 from JP for 450 shippped. I cannot for the life of me tell any difference between the two footage examples in this video. I am curious to see how the tape footage compares to me directly recording to a NINJA V in real life. Maybe without the TH-cam compression I will be able to tell a difference.

      I mastered and uploaded this video in 4k so youtube compression is minimized. The answer is that HDV compression is very good. The real advantage is in the simplified workflow copying from a harddrive versus tape. Thanks for watching

      @WaybackRewind  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are still not cheap. And by the time you add a digital recorder you are about $1000 USD into it and could have bought a far better camera.

      Yes the tape held up better than expected. But the workflow for Atomos was way better. Just plug in the harddrive and copy versus real-time janky firewire connection. Also longer recording time and larger screen.

    Hi can u do a comparison between canon xlh1 and canon xf305 i have been torn between these two.
    Im planning on buying the xlh1 then getting an external recorder to save cost or buy the xf305

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a great suggestion. The specs on the XF305 show it to be higher quality, but my experience the difference will be hard to see in the first generation. But the signal has twice the bandwidth should hold up better to multiple generations in editing. The XF305 is kind of pricey still. Might be a while before I can afford one. Thanks for watching.

    Stuff all really. Atmos marginally better not as much as I thought it would be. But maybe TH-cam compression had a bit to do with it. I have three xlh1s recording to Blackmagic Video Assist via sdi. I'll have to run a tape as well to see what results I get.

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The difference was not very visible in the original either which I mastered in 2160p. Overall impressive that the tape did so well with almost 90% less bits. The tape was a pain to get in the computer so there are still advanages to tapeless.
      Thanks for the input.

      Not nearly as much difference as I expected. The tape does well but transferring from tape is far trickier than copying from a harddrive.
