    Vance & Hines Twin Slash 3” Slip-ons Quiet Baffles: Are they worth it? Install and decibel meter comparison.
    I have the Vance & Hines Twin Slash 3” Slip-ons installed on my 2017 Harley-Davidson Softail Fat Boy S (FLSTFBS). As much as I love the exhaust note, it is a little too spicy for my 5:30am starts before heading out to work. I heard that the quiet baffles might reduce just enough edge of the exhaust levels to not bother the neighbors as much. As a secondary benefit I heard that it will make the decel pop a lot quieter.
    This was enough for me to give it a try. These Quiet Baffles are listed in al the usual online retailers. Most of them are charging $79-$99 each when they have them in stock. Too much. But then I found them at J&P Cycles in-stock for $59.99. I immediately ordered 2.
    As of today, J&P Cycles is the only ones that have them in-stock. Everyone else says “coming soon”.

    Comparison Note:
    The videos used here were recorded with an iPhone. The iPhone does auto gain adjustments on the mic input, so you can’t really compare loudness levels from different videos or even in the same video recording. That is why I used the decibel meter to show the differences. The iPhone does provide a very high quality recording, so the exhaust sounds lifelike.

    I just put these quiet baffles on my twin slash pipes (I bought the bike used and they came on it already, and they made the volume much more reasonable....... it's basically as loud as a riding lawn mower.... people inside their houses will barely even hear it.

    Just installed my V&H on my Indian scout, damn they are loud!!! So I need them to be a little quieter and I think these will do the trick! Thanks man

    Bare in mind that a reduction of 3dB equals of a noise 2 times quieter than the reference. Don't let the 3dB make you feel it is not enough ; it is indeed a quite sensible reduction.

      Indeed it is. Particularly in my situation and the two reasons why I wanted quieter baffles. 1. Starting the bike at 5am in my driveway next to the neighbors bedroom window, and 2. Longer distance riding already has a lot of road and wind noise wearing you down, so eliminating some of that higher RPM edge let’s me ride longer while having the cruise control at 70-80 MPH. I am very happy with the results.

      I'm totally with you on that and that is why I bought the same baffles. Mine came with some solding residues in the thread.
      Do you by any chance know the size of it ?
      I'll have to repair it with a new thread insert but I need to know the size and if it is coarse or fine thread ... and since I am in France, I'd like to order the correct one and I cannot go to a shop as everything is in metric here.

      do you have the screw? if you do, the best method might be to take it to a large hardware shop and see if they have a thread finder display. it normally is a big block with all kinds of threaded holes, both metric and standard and also coarse and fine threads. that way you can find the correct size.
      You could also contact V&H and ask them to provide you that information.
      If you are going to tap new threads on the baffle, then it really doesn't matter, just make sure you buy screws to match the tap you use.

    Great video my friend, I've fitted V&H's to my Rogue and they are loud but im going down a different root and going to buy fibre glass and and wrap them twice myself and see what that does.

      record before and after and share with us. You can find exhaust fiberglass in amazon and other online stores.

      How did it turn out doing that method non your exhaust? Im very curious cuz Ibwas considering something like that but wasn't too confident.

      @@CantTreadOnMe I took my baffles out last month and wrapped them myself. I bought some 10mm fibreglass baffle wrap and some thin gauge wire. I loosened the heat shields on the exhaust undid the allen screws and pulled the baffles out, I then wrapped the fibreglass round once and then tightly wound the wire round (this must be done tightly or you'll struggle to get the baffles back in). Before and unwrapped, the exhausts were reading 91db. Once wrapped and outside warm and idling they were reading 86db, they sound deeper in tone and a little quieter. In hindsight was it worth it, yes 100% I love the sound of them now and saved myself a fortune the quiet baffles are £85 each plus vat and my way cost me £25 to do both of them hope this helps.

      @palerider8992 Nice work, thanks for the walk through of how you did it. 5 decibels is a nice improvement and probably makes it far less obnoxious while still sounding great. I'll keep this trick up my sleeve for my Rogue cuz im undecided what im gonna do. I dont wanna mod really anything but the exhaust so im justifying to myself to spend alot of money on the Dr Jekill and Mr Hyde exhaust for it since that is only mod im doing besides engine guard bars. But that exhaust system is $2.5k but a very awesome solution. It has 3 different modes and you can change them with a push of a button. They sound great too and to be able to be quiet in my neighborhood and loud on the highway is a nice convenience to have although pricey. But I plan on having this bike for many years so I think it's worth doing.

    @killdozer3464 sweet ride and nice pipes. I got the standard baffles for my HD 1200 sportster 48 .... sounds wicked! Bro .... one question .... you tried out the 3in slipons with standard and quiet baffles both. Did you notice any loss of low end torque/acceleration with the standard baffles and if yes disbyou do anything to remedy it? Much thanks!

      the quiet baffles increased low end torque acceleration while loosing a little bit of power at the top end of the RPM range. that's normal when you add restriction to the exhaust. I didn't dyno it, but it was enough to notice. If you don't run your bike wide open throttle to the red line in a regular basis, then you might not even notice it. But if you are out there wilding hitting the limiter all the time (I do), you will notice. I don't have this bike any more, I have my 07 Softail Custom with Thunderheader Exhaust and my gen 2 Busa left. Also bought the ol lady her first bike, a Honda Rebel 500.
      I plan on making a sound video of the thunderheader side by side with this video.

    I’m trying to decide what to do for an exhaust. I’ve got a ‘22 black denim 883 on order. The stock exhaust just doesn’t cut it, I want more throat out of the bike but I like my neighbours and waking up the wife a 6am is suicidal. Short shots I’m sure would be way too loud but look fantastic. I think I might be better off to go with the v&h slip on with stock baffles instead and add quiet baffles if absolutely necessary. I like my neighbours but it’s not like we hang out.

      Can’t go wrong with that tried and true combo. If you use the stock v&h baffles, I recommend you also install the DK Custom Products Thunder Torque Inserts (TTI) on your exhaust. It’s been dyno proven to increase power and torque by over 15% on sportsters when installed along a performance air cleaner. Get all the power that 883 can actually make. It will be night and day difference.
      Also the sound will be more low / throaty as it decreases the high notes a few decibels. Check out their TH-cam channel and all their videos. I install their products in all my Harley’s, first thing I do. If you have questions, or want to decide what mods / upgrades are best for your bike, you can call or email them and they take the time to show you what you need / don’t need to get your bike performance maxed out based on what you want.
      I am currently giving the DK treatment to a 2007 Softail Custom, and I will be posting videos on all the upgrades as I install them. It’s gonna be so sick.
      But 100% the stock exhaust has got to go.

    GREAT vid dude, its what i was looking for.
    I lke too see more like this also compared with other brands. A lot people ( like me) was looking for pipes that give a good sound but not too loud.
    Once i heard the 2 brothers racing andfor me way to loud. Even with earplugs.
    Myself ride a fatboy lo 2011 (96 ci) with cobra rpt3 with the optional 2.5 inch baffles in stead tne standard 3 inch.
    Acording tne dutch law it May / allowed have 96 decibels on 2500 rpm. Mesured at 50 centimeter at an angle of 45 degree.
    Its strange but at idle or rev the decibels doesent change that much with the cobra rpt3 . Mesured with my smartphone.
    I wonder how the cobra rpt3 compare to V/H.

      to make sure you are within the government requirements, you must use a decibel meter, as the phone apps are not very accurate.
      this set up that I have now will definitely be louder than 96 decibels at 2500rpm measured 50cm away at 45deg angle.

    Any idea how loud they are 50ft away ? Nyc is getting nuts and have noise cameras now and giving hefty fines out !

      what is the regulation levels the want you to stay under? This could probably be good at 50' at idle. But once the motor is under load and reving up, it does get loud still. It is quieter than with the regular V&H baffles, but still way louder than stock when moving. If you have strict regulations, stock exhaust might be your only option.

      @@killdozer3464 well it’s so new it’s not exactly known about footage but the law says 95 db for motorcycles and stock is louder then that probably at rev speeds. Cams probably will be up high and I’ve read something that said 50 ft at 95 db so that’s what I’m going with.

    Man im really gonna have to drop $2.5k for the Dr. Jekill and Mr Hyde pipes. I need it to sound how I want and when I want and that is the only exhaust system that offers that solution but they are pricey!

      @killdozer3464 It's a regular exhaust just like any aftermarket except it has electronic valve openers built into the pipes and comes with a button that attaches to your handlebars so you can push a button and get silent mode "Dr. Jekill", balanced mode which is loud but not obnoxious and than the fully open and loud Mr Hyde mode. They sound great but it gives you convenient of having loud, quiet or balanced with simply a button press. Very brilliant design and idea but very pricey.
