  • Stromboli island, Aeolian Islands, Sicily, August 2021. Walking tour and boat panoramic view of the Stromboli volcano.
🌋Curiosity note: The word volcano is very rarely used by the locals who prefer to define it familiarly as "Iddu" (he), as if it were a member of their family or a close friend.

Hi my friends!!! Welcome to Stromboli island!!! 🌋 It is a great pleasure to me to share the beauty of this Sicilian island!!!. My favorite Aeolian islands.
Stromboli is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north coast of Sicily, containing Mount Stromboli, one of the three active volcanoes in Italy. The island's area is 12.6 square kilometres, on the upper third of the volcano that is above sea level and making an island.] Its population is about 500.

The volcano has erupted many times and is constantly active with minor eruptions, often visible from many points on the island and from the surrounding sea, giving rise to the island's nickname "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean". (Wikipedia)
Stromboli is famous for its normally small, but regular explosions throwing out glowing lava from several vents inside its summit crater. This activity has been going on for at least 2000 years, as long as there is written memory of the activity, which Stromboli lended its name to, the so-called strombolian activity.

The Aeolian Islands are one of 55 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Italy. The Archipelago of the Aeolian Islands consist of seven exquisite islands off the coast of Sicily - Lipari, Panarea, Vulcano, Stromboli, Salina, Alicudi and Filicudi - in addition to smaller islets and giant boulders. They all emerge from an uncontaminated sea, created by still-active volcanoes (Stromboli and Vulcano), and blessed by a savage beauty.
In this video I will walk you through the streets of San Vincenzo, a small village of Stromboli, we will go under water in the “black beach” of San Vincenzo, near the port. At the end of this walking tour you can enjoy the volcano view from the ferry boat.
Hope you enjoy this island as much as I do, wait for the next videos of other Aeolian Islands!!!

I came here as an amature volcanologist first in the 1960's, along with my friend also a volcanologist, who came here first in the ,1950's. We continued to come here untill 1978 when the island was undeveloped, when you could go where ever you please, and sleep up on the summit. We would stay at Bar Roma, now La Nave in Piazza, close to the main church. We were amongst a dedicated group that came year after year, because it wasn't developed. At the time, the world population was just under four billion, but today it is eight. Today the island is totally commercialized, full of too many people, and totally spoilt and destroyed to what it had been.
I was last on the island in 2002, and arrived on the ferry from Milazzo, Sicily. I took one look from the harbour pier, and immediately returned on board the ferry, paradise lost.

Very beautiful place. It's my kind of island, looks very tropical. A day's trip on ferry from Tropea will be worth every penny and time. I will not take a chance to stay overnight, volcano can erupt anytime. Thanks very much for video.

Ciao Marco! I can't remember which island has the strong sulphur smell. Is it Stromboli or Vulcano? I have been thinking about moving south after my time in Firenze. I have seen an apartment on Lipari that I really love, but I think any of the Aeolian Islands would be an amazing place to live. Grazie, Paul in Firenze

@@paulfreitag8267 Hi Paul vulcano and Stromboli are very small and few people live there in winter time . Lipari is much bigger and from Lipari you can move around because there many connections to other islands and to Milazzo (Sicily). Stromboli and Vulcano are very nice and wild but I think that after some months you get a bit bored . I hope this can help you. Ciao
