That, and the fact that Wicked isn’t as accessible as Barbie, so as someone who only saw their first Broadway play as a teen because of Lin Manuel’s partnership with LA Unified Schools, their references can only be the most well-known aspects, so they’ve just been slapping pink and green on things, but it doesn’t make as much sense as barbie pink. Yes!! I read the book before watching the musical and was very disappointed at the things they cut out- although it made sense foe the stage production. I would love to see a movie based off of the book with all the more vulgar details.
Regular person: What a well-rounded and reasonable video about unwavering excitement for a movie despite some odd buzz around it. Me: ....where can I get that keyboard with extra loud clickity-clack?
RE: Singing Live To quote the 2013 Tony Awards Opening Number "We don't need extreme close ups to prove we're singing live. We sing live 8 shows a week." (RE the press about the Tom Hooper Les Mis Live Singing press) ALSO Most movie musicals have them singing live along to recorded tracks for synchronization. At least Rent did. It's also notable why the film Over the Moon sounds different from the Movie Soundtrack.
The Wicked Fan Poster was so toxic because it called out a fan for doing something relatively harmless, specifically because Cynthia posted just a fan page not the artist. This puts undue pressure on just some person on the Internet who doesn't have a PR team. Sidenote, I do wish more mainstream movie posters were stylized art. Like how the OG Star Wars posters were drawings of the characters faces. The AI fight thing is weird. And yeah, I might have seen it but the promo taking about a Year? Ugh. Please. You're overwhelming me. It's like Presidential campaigns taking longer and longer, something we won't have to deal with anymore.

@Joey-Sands probably but I wouldn't be surprised if they just flat out turned Shiz and Munchkin land to an attraction with the amount of money they put into the set
Is it just me who thinks Ariana isn’t a good choice for Galinda simply because of her reputation? Like the entire point of the show is close female friendship, and she’s literally known as “not a girl’s girl” lol
I feel like she just doesnt fit Glinda's essence. She has the range but i think Amanda Seyfriend wouldve been a better fit personality and stage presence wise. Ari looks washed out and sickly as Glinda, and to be very frankly honest, her surgeries make all her facial expressions look like shes confused and concerned all the time so her acting feels very flat. Amanda wouldve pulled off the blonde and pink like a Barbie and wouldve been a warmer/bubblier presence imo.
Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star. This was a great video, you genuinely made me laugh so hard.
Listen, when I heard we could have had Dove Cameron as Glinda, I became incredibly upset. Ariana is a garbage person and I HATE that she was cast as Glinda.
11:55 to date the most impactful and also traumatic relationship of my life was a six month friendship with a guy i did a musical with in high school :/ genuinely what is it about theatre kids
im bracing myself to be disappointed bc i've been disappointed by SO many adaptations over my lifetime, but i got goosebumps when i read the positive reviews you put on screen. i love ariana grande--mostly as a lesbian and as a huge fan of 13!--so i had also been a bit nervous because i don't want her performance to make me sad. ive seen lots of theatre people genuinely excited for this, so i'm starting to actually look forward to seeing it on Friday
I actually disagree with what you're saying about singing on set. Many musical movies do a mix of live singing and studio singing (which I think is the best idea), live set singing can have a lot of draw backs (looking at you les mis movie), due to microphones the singing can often times be lacking or else they'll mess up the boom mic for that shot/they can't go full out due to fear of audio feedback . It can also tire the singers voices if they're doing a lot of singing back to back. I'm not saying thats what happened on the wicked set, but acting like all movie musicals should do live singing is really weird. edit: I would recommend the video 'Why the Music in Les Misérables (2012) is Worse than you Thought' if you want to see more on why the singing in that music sucks, it touches on the live singing problem.
I was curious about the Betty Crocker collab because I like to bake and how could they mess up adding food coloring right? Well all of the reviews are terrible lol
I don't know anything about theater or musicals so I needed your guidance, thank you king 🙏🙏 EDIT: I had no fucking idea how many tie in merch collabs there was with this movie what the hell LMFAOOOO
I just love how the movie's marketing aesthetic is just what my house already looks like, because I'm a pink glittery girly girl and my husband's favorite color is lime green. 🤣
7:48 re: "or did they DO something to these people?" personally i think this is just the natural consequence of being the type of person who would audition for Galinda in the first place
I think a lot of the wicked products being sold are tailored specifically for the movie. Like the butterfly on the Stanley cup, there was an interview with a designer for the movie who talked about the inclusion of butterflies as sort of a symbol for Glinda. That purple sock is the same color as Galinda’s school uniform in the movie but not the stage production.
Does the marketing team not realize that the target audience can tell how lazy it is to just create a bunch of green and pink items, slap the word wicked on the packaging and markup the price by a lot? I want to see the film as I like the overall messages like accepting others regardless of there differences and people aren't born wicked they are created through there life experiences but I won't lie that the excessive products have made me less excited.
i would so go see it early (today) as it is showing in a theater near me but those ticket prices are insane😭 still incredibly excited for when i get the chance and I hope you'll enjoy watching it! (great video btw as always⭐️)
Harryyyyy I missed you!!!! so glad you're talking about this because seeing these ads in the wild has been batshit, why are we doing green mac n cheese??
I’m excited for it but I’m nervous with it being split up, I’m nervous that it’ll be a cash grab, I’m nervous but I know how great the musical is so you know I’m gonna watch it immediately nonetheless
I had heard the movie might finally get made, and then i was at Universal Studios and when you drive by the actual back-lot one of them was labeled as filming wicked. That's how i found out it was in production. We already have tickets for Sunday.
I love wicked. My concern is that it's rated PG. I'm tired of things in the Oz world being treated as for children through reducing the genuinely scary universe. Wicked concerns me even more because those books are not for kids yet the musical made a PG-13 version of the story work extremely well. Making it PG will come at a cost. Are they gonna remove songs like As Long as You're Mine? What about the attempts to genocide talking animals? (Which i would argue fits very well with The Wizard's list of horrible crimes that he's done both in the original Oz series and the Wicked series).
It sounds like it would make sense to sing live on set, but movie production is a lot different than Broadway production. Just watch Sideways’ amazing video about the music in the Les Mis movie. Singing live was a veeeerryyy bad choice and a dangerous one for the actors. Movie production is not one take like a live performance is, so they have to potentially sing these same songs over and over and over again in the span of hours, which luckily might not be as much of an issue for a trained musician like Ariana Grande, but was dangerous for some of the vocally untrained actors in Les Mis. Also the background set noises get picked up with all of the singing, so they have to work extra hard to avoid making any noises. Seriously, watch Sideways’ video if you haven’t cause it’s super interesting
I spent so long thinking about why he said the Shane Dawson line, then realized! Patrick Starr is NOT Jeffree Star omg!!! Patrick is a very nice person with an excellent reputation.
wicked is one of my fav musicals but since 1829 before Christ (when this movie started to be filmed) i had little to no interest in the movie adaptation 🤷🏻♀️ the same thing that happened to mean girls the movie musical, loved the musical but the movie was bull.
I dont want to be excited for the movie because i know it wont be the same. Very much in the same way Rent the movie is not as good as the live stage musical (yes i said it)
Unfortunately $34 is a pretty averagely priced makeup brush, especially for a limited edition collab between an influencer and a movie with an atypical design (custom handle, and the brush is built w multiple fiber lengths). Both makeup brushes and painter's brushes can easily go for 50+$ us! Theyre not as cheap as people think 😅
@MashaRistova didn't say I pay for them at that price! I'm a drugstore shopper. I also think it's silly, but the ""higher end"" brushes are often priced right around there, or higher. I wouldn't pay for it personally, but I don't think the price is shocking. That's all!
I don't wanna risk pissing off cynthia so I won't see it. Idk when she's gonna decide her being green at all makes every watcher of the movie fucking racist . I'll never get over that I feel so bad for the theatre fan who made that improvement edit. I have seen like zero advertising for this movie, thus video had to remind me it exists, which just speaks to the testament to how everyone's internets exist on functionally different planets lol
Singing on set live is much different than singing on stage. Broadway performers do have to the show 8 times a week but there's breaks in between song numbers and intermission. The actress has to sing Defying Gravity for once a day or twice a day when it's the matinee show. Actors on a movie do multiple takes in a row because they have to make it as perfect as possible. A movie audience isn't as forgiving when an actor misses their mark because it's not live. And I saw Hairspray Live and Ariana Grande only knows how to play Cat from victorius and the fake high voice is her voice Edit: the build-a-bear one is actually two outfits and 1 bear. The rabbit is just a regular rabbit. She's adorable and I think I have her
Musical movies, or any movie with a musical number, usually has the song prerecorded professionally and then lipsyncked on the shoot. It actually worries me they are singing live, that's how we got the desaster movie of Le Miserable, watch the sideways movie about it to know more

i'll see people here and there talking about a wicked/gladiator 2 double feature and i do wanna see both but those two movies have done even less than barbie & oppenheimer to promote each other
@@vlogily8043 Hollywood can't recreate Barbenheimer. That was by the people for the people.
I know the stageplay is far cleaner than the book, but 10-year olds seeing Wicked still shocks me as someone who remembers more of the book (often very graphic) than the musical
Me: ....where can I get that keyboard with extra loud clickity-clack?
try a basic mechanical keyboard and see if u like it!
you should watch sideways video on le mis. its a good breakdown on why singing live is a horrible idea
I agree
I’m not surprised Universal is going ham on the marketing.
They really sh*t the bed with Cats and they really don’t want it to happen again.
RE: Singing Live
To quote the 2013 Tony Awards Opening Number
"We don't need extreme close ups to prove we're singing live. We sing live 8 shows a week."
(RE the press about the Tom Hooper Les Mis Live Singing press)
ALSO
Most movie musicals have them singing live along to recorded tracks for synchronization.
I just love that at your core you’re just a theater nerd that’s also a commentary TH-camr and I love that so much cause it’s the crossover niche that I’ve always needed ❤
I am so over this movie and I haven’t seen it. I don’t even want to at this point.
K with that hotel partnership that almost confimes my suspicion that there definitely will be a Wicked attraction of some kind. There's has to be right? Especially with that set
Emerald city park at Universal?

It's even funnier because Defying Gravity and Gusty Garden Galaxy are in the same key (Db).
Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star Patrick Starr is not Jeffree Star.
This was a great video, you genuinely made me laugh so hard.
People who collect Stanley cups specifically MUST have it in every shade of pink
"i should have called my friends instead of making an Instagram story post" is actually such a real and honest reflection i can't fault her lol
Listen, when I heard we could have had Dove Cameron as Glinda, I became incredibly upset. Ariana is a garbage person and I HATE that she was cast as Glinda.
She sings well enough. We could have a Lea Michelle also😂
cat butt spotted at 6:33
bring back trailers that don't fucking tell you anything
Wait… it’s in PARTS?!??
11:55 to date the most impactful and also traumatic relationship of my life was a six month friendship with a guy i did a musical with in high school :/ genuinely what is it about theatre kids
Incarnate the drama from the stage 😂
im bracing myself to be disappointed bc i've been disappointed by SO many adaptations over my lifetime, but i got goosebumps when i read the positive reviews you put on screen. i love ariana grande--mostly as a lesbian and as a huge fan of 13!--so i had also been a bit nervous because i don't want her performance to make me sad. ive seen lots of theatre people genuinely excited for this, so i'm starting to actually look forward to seeing it on Friday
Singing live on set didn’t help phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, and Cats
The stapler and the vacuum bit killed me 😂
the double use of the "kardashians only for rich people" bit was chefs kiss
Lexus made a Van Gogh car. Would not surprise me if they made a pink and green one.
I don't know anything about theater or musicals so I needed your guidance, thank you king 🙏🙏
EDIT: I had no fucking idea how many tie in merch collabs there was with this movie what the hell LMFAOOOO
I'm pretty sure that the cringey article with Wicked lyrics was written by ChatGPT.
I just love how the movie's marketing aesthetic is just what my house already looks like, because I'm a pink glittery girly girl and my husband's favorite color is lime green. 🤣
Idk if I've ever been this early, I didn't know I needed your opinion on this so bad xD
Live singing in a movie, with *film actors,* is a good idea now?
You mean like it was in the "Les Mis" movie? /s
4:50 I mean a perfectly placed advertisement feels apt
also i really like ur frog plushie . hes a nice little guy
i would so go see it early (today) as it is showing in a theater near me but those ticket prices are insane😭 still incredibly excited for when i get the chance and I hope you'll enjoy watching it!
(great video btw as always⭐️)
the way some of the merch are probably gonna end up in the off the rack stores and landfills 😞
Harryyyyy I missed you!!!! so glad you're talking about this because seeing these ads in the wild has been batshit, why are we doing green mac n cheese??
my favorite musical commentator is BACK
between this and tammy faye there's a ton of theatre gossip and i'm so happy about it
good job rachel zegler for playing both maria and tony in wss she is so talented
I’m excited for it but I’m nervous with it being split up, I’m nervous that it’ll be a cash grab, I’m nervous but I know how great the musical is so you know I’m gonna watch it immediately nonetheless
Cynthias thing about the poster irritated me so much tho
i think she was just already stressed out and that was a weak moment. she even said she shouldnt have posted it
@ oh I didn’t see that tbh. I’m still excited for the movie. 😄
This man actually cut a Reese’s and put it into the video to illustrate his analogy of Ariana Grande and I’m here for it.
You look like a better version of Jake Doolittle in this video, but you seem way nicer and your jokes are actually funny.
I saw the play 15 years ago and loved it. I definitely want to see the movie.
GUSTY GARDEN GALAXY JUMPSCARE !!
I've seen pink & green Wicked Lexuses on the red (pink and green?) carpets, but I guess they're not banking on anyone actually buying them.
i love thar frog on your shelf !
Not the topic but I love the pigeon painting in the background ❤ 😄
Seriously, watch Sideways’ video if you haven’t cause it’s super interesting
such a good video
I just hope Ariana cools it with the cursive singing. I am very hard of hearing.
This promo campaign was worse than the election ads imho. 😅i need this all to be over 👏
I dont want to be excited for the movie because i know it wont be the same. Very much in the same way Rent the movie is not as good as the live stage musical (yes i said it)
one of your defying gravity riffs was one the mario galaxy themes 🥰🥰
Unfortunately $34 is a pretty averagely priced makeup brush, especially for a limited edition collab between an influencer and a movie with an atypical design (custom handle, and the brush is built w multiple fiber lengths). Both makeup brushes and painter's brushes can easily go for 50+$ us! Theyre not as cheap as people think 😅
That’s a ridiculous price for a makeup brush. If you’re paying $34 for a makeup brush, you’re gullible and deserve to be wasting your money
@MashaRistova didn't say I pay for them at that price! I'm a drugstore shopper. I also think it's silly, but the ""higher end"" brushes are often priced right around there, or higher. I wouldn't pay for it personally, but I don't think the price is shocking. That's all!
Oh wow, Glinda looks like she could be in college but Elphaba looks so much older to me.
Petition to get Harry to stay at the Hilton Wicked Experience 2025
Some great jokes in this one lmao. Love it
Of course they are making it two parts 🙄🙄
I have tickets for tonight and I can’t wait! 🤩💚💖
The stapler and vacuum cleaner bit had me laughing way louder than I intended
I don't wanna risk pissing off cynthia so I won't see it. Idk when she's gonna decide her being green at all makes every watcher of the movie fucking racist . I'll never get over that I feel so bad for the theatre fan who made that improvement edit. I wouldn't be able to love a musical I loved if an actress about to be in it LLLAAAASSHED ME LIVE fuck that I'd never recover
Okay when u played the end of the commercial and i heard the riff i got kinda mad bc bitch im going no spoilers no CONTEXT ive literally never read this book nor have i seen this musical but i am EXCITED and also i AGREE i don't think they would use the actaul take bc wtf keep ur ace up ur sleeve but if we're wrong im gonna b mad
can't stress how sincere I'm being when I say, I've been stoked specifically to hear Goldblum sing "Wonderful" since they announced him for the role, but I guess I'm just weird
And I saw Hairspray Live and Ariana Grande only knows how to play Cat from victorius and the fake high voice is her voice
Edit: the build-a-bear one is actually two outfits and 1 bear. The rabbit is just a regular rabbit. She's adorable and I think I have her
Musical movies, or any movie with a musical number, usually has the song prerecorded professionally and then lipsyncked on the shoot. It actually worries me they are singing live, that's how we got the desaster movie of Le Miserable, watch the sideways movie about it to know more
When you sing with people, your heartbeats sync up
11:24 I think the highlighted lyrics are referring to the Ethan and Ariana sharing beds during filming with the other guy and other girl being their spouses when they stayed for visits. “Now she’s (Lily) in my bed” and “now he’s (Dalton) in your bed”
