    Perhaps safety glasses would be a good option next time.....when working with wet epoxy upside down especially, getting an errand glob of resin in your eye is no fun at all.....just saying

    Do you learn from Rocoe's channel? He's so very detail oriented.

      No. Rocoe? I'll be sure to take a look if I knew.

      Building Wilda Roscoe's channel is Life on the Hulls.

      @@kevinhornbuckle ah! I have seen life on the hulls. He is doing a lot of really nice work there, and yes, I have taken some pointers from him as well as others.

    Wow - awesome build. I'm using the same West System epoxy and don't seem to have the same cure times (mine kicks within ~10 mins and it's 60*F). How did you manage to get that long strip laid up without it kicking half way through?

    • @buildingwilda
      @buildingwilda  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the slow curing agent. And small volumes. Once spread thin it doesn't go off very fast. Use wide containers for anything big ish. If you fill a coffee cup it will go off quickly. If you spread that same volume on a paper plate, it will take much longer time to go off. Make sure you mix well before spreading.

    • @buildingwilda
      @buildingwilda  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I use the normal curing agent. There is also a fast and a slow version.

      Have a look at this:

      @@buildingwilda Interesting! I do mix in a cup. I didn't know that about mixing it in a plate. Thanks, I'll try it! I usually mix for the recommended 60 seconds but don't do longer because I have so little work time. I'm actually working on a car, and the pieces I'm working on (the size of a door) are hard to cover with a single batch. Hopefully using a plate will help. Your boat is an mazing project by the way!! Can't wait to see it when it's complete.

      @@travelheaddotcom you should mix for a good while. That is good practice. When you mix, the epoxy creates heat. In a cup you have a small surface area to dissipate that heat. A wider container will help. But 10 minutes in 60f sounds fast. Consider buying a slower hardener. Might work better for you. You can buy just hardener if you want. Can be useful to have two types. And the ratio of base to hardener is important to get right. It can be difficult to mix well in a plate. Mix in a cup, then pour into the plate, that might work for you. Once you get the epoxy thin you are good. Working fast is still necessary.
      Though it might have looked easy for me and Rox, I really needed her help to manage that overhead joint. We mixed epoxy in several small batches.
      Glad to help out.

      Thanks. We are really getting there. All glass work on the hulls is complete. I have a few minor items around the trampolines to do. Then, finally chopping the roof and changing the front of the saloon. The only major items left to do.

      After not having been able to do any work on the boat for over 6 months, I have contracted 2 guys to do some fairing and priming. Feels good to see some progress again. I'll see how long I can afford to keep them working. At least they will be able to protect the hull for me.
