Fiberglass Upside-Down And Fill Large Ceiling Holes

The frame around the companionway hatch extended down past the low ceiling and always hit me in the back when going into the cabin. After chopping off the extra low hanging hatch frame, I filled the hollow frame with spray foam and laid fiberglass over the foam, making a strong and lasting repair.
The best way to keep the foam in the ceiling is to put tape over most of the hole, leaving a few small gaps to spray the foam into. The tape also serves as a mold to form the foam to the shape of the opening.
Once the spray foam has set up, you can remove the tape and sand it to the desired final shape. Polyester resin does not dissolve the spray foam, so after carving and sanding it to shape, you can fiberglass right over it.

What's the end game with the boat? Will you sell, or do you plan on using it?

Everything is for sale at the right price, but this boat is in such bad shape, it won't be worth buying unless you really like it and don't want to put in the work to convert a different one yourself. The plan is to take the giant solar panel array off of the Carver sportfish and put it on the catamaran so it can have solar air conditioning and run all the other appliances. Long distance travel will be with a normal gas outboard, but short hops from one neighboring island to the next can be done with solar electric propulsion. Its for me, to go tour the Bahamas before I get too old to do it.
