Because TH-cam ads - especially when half the audience is blocking them - don't make very much money, and, at the very least, content creators want to not lose money on what they make. So when a sponsor presents itself, willing to pay for the content that most TH-cam watcher aren't willing to wait 30 seconds for, of course they're going to accept. The alternative is, generally speaking, no show whatsoever.

Jam Newton I watched Table top since the 1st season. I just loved it. I feel like its geek & sundry's best show :) Felecia should make it weekly regular show. They don't have to have special guests all the time just play fun games with charismatic people :D.
So Ivan needs to be like a permanent 2nd guest for this season-- all because of his hilarious reaction towards the slight of hand.. such fantastic chemistry between him and Wheaton

Will they actually release it in January? In the "main" video, where they announced this whole ALPHA bulls**t, they said the rest will be released in "early 2017". After being excited from Will's blog about shooting 4th season, then post about releasing it in July, then being disappointed about delay and ultimately ending with the Alpha program, I'm just not convinced that it will be released in January. I hope Legendary is watching virtually everyone say they're waiting until January for episodes 3-12. We're not signing up for another streaming service because you're greedy. I'd rather crowd fund for another season than put up with your postponing and corporate bullshit.
Personally I think Legendary grossly missjudged the community in two mayor ways. 1. Many of us geeks has been in some way laughed at during our life being the odd ones and we trust other geeks more than other people. Thats why sites like BoardGameGeeks, GeekandSundry and people like Wil and Felicia among others are so successfull because its "by geeks, for geeks". The real problem is, if the experiment fails (as most of the commenters here seem to expect and want) then what happens to beloved content like TableTop? Will it go back to being crowdfunded? Or will it just die a quiet death? Unfortunately, when things like this happen, its usually the latter that happens not the former.
With as popular as TT is I suspect Wilwit will go back to the drawing board and figure out another option. TT is entirely his I believe and only distributed through G&S (and now secondarily through Legendary), so if he wants to do more...he will figure out how.

If you're having such a good time that you're making suboptimal plays, congratulations, you're playing the game right. I have played a few too many games - usually heavy Euro games - where there was just abject, eerie silence at the table because everybody was trying so hard to minmax that they neglected to actually talk to each other.
They are working on it. Getting all the players together has been tricky. They were going to start filming about now but Hank's wife had a baby this weekend so they've had to push it back a little

I almost guarantee, most of the people bitching about Alpha are using ad blocker. They need to make money guys, this sort of content doesn't just happen by magic.
Then crowd fund it, use something like Patreon or at-least put freaking affiliate links to the games to purchase. There are lots of ways to make money that don't force viewers to sign up for some over priced, half-baked video service that will be out of business within a year. If people really wanted to pay for streaming web content there would be a lot more TH-cam Red subscriptions.
And what about the people who gave money to crowdfund this season? Are you saying they should pay more just to watch the show they funded? That's like going to a television station and demanding money from them just so they can watch their own shows. People paid for this show, it wasn't made for free. This show received the money to make it happen. Adding an additional cost to it is extremely jerkish.
The people who crowdfunded this season did get to watch already. All zero of them recieved this season early, along with a personalized thank you card from every guest.
I have enjoyed many guests on Tabletop, but the combination of these four is immensely enjoyable. I honestly wouldn't mind if Tabletop was just them from now on. It seemed like the perfect blend of personalities. And I love Game the Game, but they seriously benefited from the editing and high quality of Tabletop. Keep up the great work, guys!
Interesting game. Simple and fun. I gotta say i feel like this episode was more about watching everyone vs showing the game. Inside jokes with strategy hats and side comments and stuff .. I mean it's fun but id like more examples of the game and cool game play vs people talk.

To be clear, this is not a Tabletop decision. It's not even a Geek and Sundry decision. It's a decision by the company that owns Geek and Sundry. GnS, as well as all their shows, were forced to incorporate Alpha somehow, and the biggest-name shows got some flexibility, which is why Critical Role is not changing, but will have extras on Alpha and Tabletop is a timed exclusive rather than flat-out exclusive. I may have some details wrong, but my main point is to not take this out on GnS, Tabletop, Critical Role, etc. Take it out on Legendary. Voice your concerns, but don't hate those who had no say in the matter, especially because they all seem to hate it as much as you do; they just can't say so.

Interesting game. Simple and fun. I gotta say i feel like this episode was more about watching everyone vs showing the game. Inside jokes with strategy hats and side comments and stuff .. I mean it's fun but id like more examples of the game and cool game play vs people talk.

It's an idiotic idea that supposes the enjoyment of another culture is somehow damaging. It's almost always selectively employed and simply a tool for bullies to justify attacking their victims.

To be clear, this is not a Tabletop decision. It's not even a Geek and Sundry decision. It's a decision by the company that owns Geek and Sundry. GnS, as well as all their shows, were forced to incorporate Alpha somehow, and the biggest-name shows got some flexibility, which is why Critical Role is not changing, but will have extras on Alpha and Tabletop is a timed exclusive rather than flat-out exclusive.
I may have some details wrong, but my main point is to not take this out on GnS, Tabletop, Critical Role, etc. Take it out on Legendary. Voice your concerns, but don't hate those who had no say in the matter, especially because they all seem to hate it as much as you do; they just can't say so.
All I can think of when I see Wil in this episode is Emo Peter Parker from Spiderman 3. Anyone else getting that?
