My pig always headbutts his head under my hand lol. I will have my hand out and he will come over and move under my hand and sit there until I scratch his head.
Great video and excellent tips! My biggest piece of advice for new owners is what you mentioned at the beginning, and that is be patient! For such nervous creatures they have huge personalities and your patience is rewarded when they trust you enough to show it. I've had guinea pigs all my life and I think they are just wonderful pets. Your skinny pigs are adorable by the way, I've always wanted one! Thanks for this great video and take care!

Today i got two male pigs from my husband, and i couldnt be more happier.. :) So its our first day/night with them :) your tips are really helpful, and now ill leave them alone for 2-3 days, just for them to get used to us,and new cage, and our voices.. I tryed to give them treats but they are way to scared :) i hope we will play soon :) ty again for awsome tips :)
skinnypigs1 I forgot to say that i got two brothers, and one of them is blind on one eye.. and i couldnt separate them coz of that.. Tnat option wasnt even on my mind :) .. so i got some eye drops for him. Do you maybe have some advice how i should aproach to him? he is really calm, calmer then his brother :)
Glad it helped out! I have MANY more videos that are good to watch, especially some of the newest ones. I have a great one about a guinea pigs diet. You can hold your hand near if it isn't scaring them, you can talk to the piggy lots but I would refrain from trying to pick it up until it gets used to its cage and a bit calmer. It would be really overwhelming to be in a new place and have someone unfamiliar trying to grab you!

I have two boys I got last month. They previously cohabited, so they're comfortable with each other. Genji is more dominant than, Hanzo.. but they're great together. They're coming when they hear crinkly noises from their food bags, responsive to my voice, but still don't want to be picked up. I'm assuming it'll happen in months time, or never 🤣which is okay. Lacey Krause I first saw Barnaby and just fell in love with them. I do have one furry pig now, you can see her in my newest videos. She is a spayed female from a rescue for one of my adopted males.Sounds like you have lovely pigs too!
I find they make like a drrrr if there's a sudden noise even while they're in their cage but the longer purr is only when being petted, apart from when they're rumbling at the nearest pig lol. Pigs have such a wonderful range of noises :)
I only have one I got from a local breeder and she didn't say it was essential for them to haves buddy she did say they do better in pairs but I wasn't able to spend a whole extra 140$ right now Mine is very young I'm hoping she will get more comfortable soon..I'm nervous I dont want her to be scared
It is corrugated plastic, stuff signs are made from. You cut and score it to make a base. The grids are storage cubes you can find them at Walmart. You can buy all the stuff for more money at Piggy Bed Spreads.
I got my guinea pig 2 days ago but I only got one because she was the only one there and her cage is an average size i think but it isnt as big as yours.I hope she grows to get used to me and love me .
Hi Skinnypigs1, I am watching this later on but yesterday I got 2 Females and this was so helpful I appreciate the fact that you make videos like this, It is super helpful and I know just what to do for taming, You are so inspirational and i love your Channel- Selena
I have 3 piggies. 2 girls and 1 boy. The girl pigs get along so well with my boy. But the girls together, aren't as nice. They will try to nip at each other and it makes me nervous. Do you have any tips on how to bond them better?
Absolutely stinking ADORABLE!!! I have 2 piggies who I love deeply, the lil boogers! One of them is still a bit skiddish but I'm taking my time with her. They are something else.
Your guinea pigs are so cute. I had one that loved to hide in my hoodie pocket. He would also sit on my thigh when out on the grass behind my house. He died a couple years ago though of old age. He lived to be around 7 or so years old. Two others that I had would squeak when my mom went to get ice from the freezer for her coffee. They associated the freezer door opening with carrots. They looked so cute with their orange chins. I also had one that I was able to lay him on his back on my lap.
It's really nice to see you loving your little critters, we have two hammies and spoil them rotten, I'm thinking of buying my gf two guinea pigs, but I think I should wait until our hammies have lived their lives so we can spoil them as much as possible. :)
Tame any animal in nearly an instant. Think of the fairies when you deal with the animal. If a dog comes at you, growling and ready to bite you, think of the fairies and it probably won't bite. It worked for me. I bought a baby piggy and it was rant wild. I tamed it in about in about a week. When I got the piggy (a week ago) it took ten minutes to catch it (and I had to be really quick). But now I can just grab it easily.
Thank you so much for giving these piggies a caring, loving home. Some people may not accept piggies, fur or not, so you are a really nice pet owner. I have piggies and I have a similar cage. The bars on mine are black but its the same design. Thanks for this video. It helped with my piggies alot! :)
Thank you! I am really glad to hear when videos have helped people out, that is why I make them :) I have a great video on diet, which is on of the most important things to know, feel free to check it out, it is a newer video.
What good tips! I wish I had known them when I was a kid and had a guinea pig. We didn't think to do most of the things you recommend, and she clearly wasn't a very happy girl. She DID bite, and quite often, occasionally even drawing blood. I'm just sorry we didn't know how to give her a better life.
I just bought a new guinea pig (and yes only one because my parents want me to prove that I can take care of one.. even though I explained that they need to be in pairs. I will be getting another one soon). I bought everything myself, but the cage isn't huge because the guinea pig I bought (his name is Toby) is just a baby. So when he gets older I will have enough money to afford to build a C&C cage. Unfortunately, it will not be as big as the one in the video but it will be large. Is it okay to temporarily keep Toby in a smaller cage until I raise enough for a big one? I also give him floor time every day.
I use to have guinea pigs. My very first was a male named Spud and I tamed him very fast, he use to live in my room so he became use to my voice and my scent as well as my foot steps, he learned who was in the house or at my door by the foot steps, was a good alarm system. He liked me picking him up and pats but didn't like anyone else going near him, picking him up or patting him unless I was there and he never went far from me when he was having floor time.
oh and i have a question my guinea pigs poop ALOT i mean they step in poop were ever they go so is that normal? and another thing is it bad to have a small cage i cant aford i big cage mine is really small its not much bigger then a hamster cage :/
Yes they poop a lot and no a small cage is not appropriate. You can build a custom cage, they are not expensive. Your guinea pigs are probably stepping in poop because the cage is not large enough and the poop is adding up. A 2by4 c&c cage costs about $40 to make, that is really cheap for a large cage.
Peyton Guay I wasn't talking about pet store cages, yes they are expensive everywhere. I was saying that building your own cage is cheap and you can make a huge one for way cheaper than a large expensive pet store cage. Buying the cheapest cage is not the best way to look at things, your guinea pigs need a healthy living space and sticking two in a small cage is not good for their health. You better be giving them lots of time to run around outside their cage and need to save up for an appropriate sized cage. Guinea pigs are creatures that run and play, you can't do that cooped up in a tiny cage. It would be like us having to live inside a closet, that is not fair to them. C&C cages are made with coroplast, which you can get at a sign shop for around $25 and you use storage cubes, they are grids found at places like Walmart or building centers, one pack is $20 or so. So for $45 you could build a really big cage! Even if you don't live in a Country where you can get those supplies, you can get creative and just use wood to make a base, tile it or use something waterproof. Anything would be better than a tiny cage, or I would put out the money to buy the biggest pet store cage you can. Spending a lot on a cage is worth it because guinea pigs can live for a least 7 years, that is a long time. Make sure you are feeding them unlimited hay and some veggies for a healthy diet.
skinnypigs1 well since we have a small cage we were able to aford a play pen that it very large i can even get in it :3 and i will be getting them a bigger cage some time this month hopefully and i feed them every day a mix of cereals trail mixes and guinea pig foods and also hay and for treats a variety of carrots apples and tomato skins and the tops of carrots also they are taken out more then 7 times a day each me and my 7 year old brother take turns hold then feed then and giving then love do u think we are doing good cause its the best we can do they are happy together also i have a problem every time i take our my tan one its coverd in scratches hairless spots and bites do u think the my other one is being taratorial because my black one ( the one that i think is biting ) i got first then 1 week later i got my tan one so do u think its be taratorial? i think is and what should i do about it?? - peyton Guay
Peyton Guay cereal trail mix is not something to feed them, that isn't part of a guinea pig diet. Hay is number 1, most important, then veggies and then plain pellets. I have a video on diet that you should check out. They are fighting because they are in too small of a cage, you really need a large cage or someone is going to be seriously injured soon. Having a guinea pig be bit all day is not good. You need to get them a large cage right away or you will end up with a guinea pig having serious injuries.
I would understand if they had some kind of skin condition that required you to shave their fur for treatment, but for the lulz? Yeah. Kinda contradicting your whole video here haha.
I have a request for a video. I would really appreciate a shoutout if you do do my request! the request is tips for new guinea pig youtubers like myself. thanks for reading and I hope you do my request! :]
My very first guinea pig had this, it was mange mites. It is one of the most treatable illnesses but sadly a lot of people do not realize what it is until it is too late. Some pigs won't have terrible scabs or scratches but just total hairloss. At least you will know for next time what to watch out for and you can seek help right away.
I'm not a big fan of hairless guinea pigs, but yours are absolutely adorable! Thanks for these tips. Most of them I was already doing, but I didn't think about some of them. My Ginger is also a 50/50 piggy. She is crazy hard to catch in the cage, but afterwards she'll cuddle up with me and crawl on my computer keyboard when I'm holding her during my homework time.
I just got one today, I didn't know they need someone to be around...you're like a guinea pig Guru to me haha...this video it's really helpful...Thanks!!!
I actually made my own! it's a 4X2 cage for a pair, I sold their petshop cage, way small. You can buy wire cube shelfs, and modify it to make a fencing. It's like 12$ for enough for a single cage, Most people use coroplast or "sign board" but my boyfriend built them a solid bottom of wood and pile wood layered with plastic tape, also their tunnels and beds, I bought ferret beds and ferret cubes, which are basically the same, only a little bigger
I got a skinny pig about a week ago, she bonded very well with my guinea pigs. The one thing I noticed is that she never runs, she eats, drinks, chew things, but she is never active (she loves being held and pet)
The last 3 piggies were, before that I didn't know better and purchased them at the pet store but I don't do that anymore. I adopted a bunny too now, he is in my new videos.
skinnypigs1 will do!! I never get animals until I know practically everything about them. I've been reading a bit for a few months now and will get all the info I can before getting my piggies :)
Thank YOU so much!! I went to Petco today to buy all kinds of supplies, but can probably use owners tips as well. They have a checklist. I got food, food bowls, water bottle, toys, toys, toys, wood hut ( sleeping house, like a igloo) hay and floor cover stuff and vitamin C treats, ( but heard, they LOVE bell peppers) and mineral. I am going to check your diet video, because I don't want to do my cutie pies short of course:) Thanks soooooo much again!
My two didn't get a long at all. What worked for me was giving them a bath together. They were so scared from getting cleaned that they stuck close together... a strength in numbers kind of thing I think. Wash them in the same shampoo. I then washed their new cage in that same shampoo as well, that way both pigs and the cage all smelled the same.. after that they got along just fine.
Kalvin is so cute! I just got my first skinny pig recently, and I'm obsessed. His name is Mike, and his cage mate, Tucker, is also a handsome little devil lol. Tuck is definitely more confident, Mike is still very nervous, but we're making progress. Our pair of older girls, adapted so fast, which was surprising, because they came from a really bad environment, but the boys are definitely a lot more apprehensive.
Very good video. The most videos advice to just put them on your lap where they simple can not escape and have to take to endure what ever you wanna do with them. Nice to see that there are still people on youtube that really care for the right handling of their pets!
Excellent tutorial. Nicely done. Good advice which can easily apply to house rabbits too! Your piggies are so cute and adorable! Never saw hairless ones before. You have a nice rapport with them. I like how you know all of their different personalities so well -- and that you respect their individuality.
I sweep the cage liners twice a day and change their entire cage twice a week. I shake them off outside, then wash and dry them. The liners have an absorbent layer in the middle that collects the pee.
This would be very helpful for people! Now, I know. Lady with 100+ guineas so I learned from her. I also knew just some of this stuff from my neighbors! I may get more, that is if my mom lets me, but VERY HELPFUL! Thanks for the video! A lot of people give false facts and stuff, but I can tell you know what your talking about!

I find they make like a drrrr if there's a sudden noise even while they're in their cage but the longer purr is only when being petted, apart from when they're rumbling at the nearest pig lol. Pigs have such a wonderful range of noises :)
I only have one I got from a local breeder and she didn't say it was essential for them to haves buddy she did say they do better in pairs but I wasn't able to spend a whole extra 140$ right now
Mine is very young I'm hoping she will get more comfortable soon..I'm nervous I dont want her to be scared
Adopting them is so much cheaper, a lot of people advertise theirs online for free to a good home.
Wow that’s expensive our Guinea pigs are only $30
I got one from Petco for $30
It is corrugated plastic, stuff signs are made from. You cut and score it to make a base. The grids are storage cubes you can find them at Walmart. You can buy all the stuff for more money at Piggy Bed Spreads.
When I stick my hand in my skinny' cage, he rumbles on my hands and gives me kisses. Neat!
Stank same
This is a real flashback. Good video. So great to see Calvin all young and spry.
Heck yah that is!
skinnypigs1 was this one of your first videos? I don't think I ever went this far back?
Barnaby running around his pet store cage is.
Hmf. That beats my strategy of annoy them until they bite.
How cute with the bag! Mine used to get excited if you opened the fridge and took out anything plastic.
I got my guinea pig 2 days ago but I only got one because she was the only one there and her cage is an average size i think but it isnt as big as yours.I hope she grows to get used to me and love me .
You need to get two of them, she will never be fully happy alone
They can unfortunately die of lonleynuss
Hi Skinnypigs1, I am watching this later on but yesterday I got 2 Females and this was so helpful I appreciate the fact that you make videos like this, It is super helpful and I know just what to do for taming, You are so inspirational and i love your Channel- Selena
I have 3 piggies. 2 girls and 1 boy. The girl pigs get along so well with my boy. But the girls together, aren't as nice. They will try to nip at each other and it makes me nervous. Do you have any tips on how to bond them better?
Bre Maurati... Do they fight when there near the boy bc that might be y they r both fighting for the boy pig
Try to only keep them apart when they r near the male
Getting attention it vital but having another guinea pig for them really is one of the best things you can do for them.
Hello. How come you have a blanket in the bottom of their cage? Won't you need to change it everyday?
They are fleece cage liners that have an absorbent layer in the middle.
skinnypigs1 dumb question but do u wash the cage liners when its changing time? love the video btw its adorable
Yes, shake them off outside and then wash and dry them.
Absolutely stinking ADORABLE!!! I have 2 piggies who I love deeply, the lil boogers! One of them is still a bit skiddish but I'm taking my time with her. They are something else.
If I had a dollar for everything someone thought I shaved them, I'd be rich.
I also had one that I was able to lay him on his back on my lap.
am I the only who cried when I saw Calvin...
Becky Lowdermilk Hobbes was there too 😀
I dont have any guinea pigs yet, but I am hoping to for my birthday. Your video will be the first video I go to for taming them! Great job!
I fell so bad i got mine a day a go and I thought holding them would get them to like my I fell bad now
It's really nice to see you loving your little critters, we have two hammies and spoil them rotten, I'm thinking of buying my gf two guinea pigs, but I think I should wait until our hammies have lived their lives so we can spoil them as much as possible. :)
Thanks!
Justwantahover Think of fairies??
Guinea pigs grow pretty quickly so I recommend getting the big cage asap. :)
You are so nice to them, it's so adorable! :)
:) Thanks!
This video is about how to tame, so I recommend watching it for help or my other videos as well.
You are adorable, i could listen to you for hours and you give great advice, thank-you!
OMG I HAVE SKINNY PIGS TOO!!!
And me :D
I have skinny pigs
When I'm about to feed them I say 'are you hungry?' And they all start squeaking, its super cute!!
Petco commented on this video!
Teehee
A 2by4 c&c cage costs about $40 to make, that is really cheap for a large cage.
skinnypigs1 well not were i live mine can go up to 99.99 there not actually cheap... we got the smallest and it was $20 there not really cheap here
Peyton Guay I wasn't talking about pet store cages, yes they are expensive everywhere.
My dog loves vegtables. We have our own garden. I get the vegtables from there in summer. During winter I share my vegtables with Molly.
It's funny how all these numbnuts think you actually shaved your guinea pigs hair off. :p
Funny and sad at the same time. I just never thought people would think I have time for that or would.
I would understand if they had some kind of skin condition that required you to shave their fur for treatment, but for the lulz? Yeah. Kinda contradicting your whole video here haha.
They are cage liners. Fleece with an absorbent layer in the middle to collect the pee. They get changed twice a week, washed and dried.
Give them lots of pets! OK!😉~Gives guinea pig a cat~ Done!🐱
oh i miss my guinea pig sooo much.... her name was Misty. I cant stop watching these videos, they all remind me of her. RIP Misty, I love you.
I have a request for a video. I would really appreciate a shoutout if you do do my request! the request is tips for new guinea pig youtubers like myself. thanks for reading and I hope you do my request! :]
What kind of tips were you hoping for? About caring for pigs or about making videos?
Such playful guinea pigs! Your tips will help my piglets very much. Thank you!
You're welcome and yes, they are super playful and fun!
I just got one today, I didn't know they need someone to be around...you're like a guinea pig Guru to me haha...this video it's really helpful...Thanks!!!
Yes, 2 or more pigs together is what is best. They truly are adorable when in pairs, just love each others company.
OMG they are so cute as hairless. Sooo funny looking, it's adorable!! Thanks for this video, I'm thinking of getting some.
Make sure to watch all my videos about diet, so you are prepared.
skinnypigs1
will do!!
What is the blue box that is under the hay rack you have hanging up?
Your piggies are so well cared for!
Thank you!
Very good video. The most videos advice to just put them on your lap where they simple can not escape and have to take to endure what ever you wanna do with them. Nice to see that there are still people on youtube that really care for the right handling of their pets!
Thanks, that is nice of you to say :)
Your guinea pigs look like little hippos! SO CUTE!
I have 2 crested piggies.Russel's the shy one and Ziggy's the lazy one! Ziggy allways shuffels when he needs to wee!
Excellent tutorial. Nicely done. Good advice which can easily apply to house rabbits too!
Your piggies are so cute and adorable! Never saw hairless ones before. You have a nice rapport with them. I like how you know all of their different personalities so well -- and that you respect their individuality.
Thanks so much! I have so many newer videos if you want to see them now :)
I just love to see how much you know about and love you pigs!
Thank you :)
