    Two of my boys, Harry and Peanut, they worked it out pretty quickly that Harry is the boss. He enjoys keeping Peanut in line as Peanut can be a little crazy at times. One of the funniest things Harry does to show his dominance (or maybe claiming Peanut as his) is to climb on top of the log arch while Peanut is under it and pee on him. The joys of having strange piggies 😂

    I have 2 pigs and when I introduced them, neither were mean but one was timid and one was basically a spaz, so one was scared of the other at first.
    Also, I wish my pigs were skinny pigs. Fur allergies 🙄 (course me, the girl with 19 pets, has a fur allergy)

    I need help!! We have 3 piggy’s. We started with two piggy’s panda and pinto they came from the same pet store. Everything was great they got along great and we had no issues with serious fights. I’m guessing because they lived at the pet store together might be why they got along so well. I believe they were brothers. We had them for about 2 months and then later decided to get another piggy. Named stitch (All males) (c&c large cage with a loft) So we did introducing in the bath tub and we did this every day for about a week and no fights everything seemed great so we did a deep cage cleaning washed all bedding and decided to put them all together and watched closely for about 3-4 days and everything seems great again no fights just normal piggy behavior. And then it started turning pinto and panda started having fights such as pinto would chase panda and we would hear loud squeaking. We were concerned but like I’ve read before chasing, humping, etc are all normal behavior. So we didn’t separate and this continued for about a week. We thought that they might still be assessing dominance. I continued to just let it be and checked the piggy’s everyday to make sure it wasn’t serious. After about 2 weeks of this. Today was when I finally saw marks (bite marks) on Panda. Which made perfect since that he was the one hurt because every time I would see pinto cause panda. Panda would always back down and run and back down from pinto so this is way I don’t understand why it turned to biting and getting bloody when panda would always back down. Stitch and pinto get along and have never fought. We have panda separated and getting special care until he is healed. But I’m just lost for what to do next!?

    Thank you for this video. It was extremely helpful. I took your advice and all the houses have separate entrances (dollarama stool that I attached some velcro fleece forest style material in all 4 entrances) hard to explain but it’s working amazing. And of course some tunnels. I did separate eating areas and a big hay area and of course plenty of space for them. I really want the 3 males go work but forsure my skinny pig is the boss pig! Thankfully the others have stepped down but they are all still young. But I’ve done everything I can so I hope that’s enough.

    My two girls have been together for almost a year. They bickered at first but eventually got along fairly well. My first pig (Sophina) has always been the boss. My second pig (Sapphire) is now picking on the boss pig every, single day. She chases her and nips at her CONSTANTLY throughout the day. Now, Sophina just gets frozen in fear and won’t come out of the house to eat or drink. She screams if Sapphire even walks towards her. I have to feed her veggies in my lap to get her to eat. I have them in a Midwest cage, they have 2 water bottles, 2 food dishes, 2 beds and a giant hay pile. And I let them have floor time every day. So now, I think I’m going to build them a big c&c cage and see if having more space will help the situation. I hope and pray it does because I’m getting so worried about Sophina not eating or drinking. 😢 If anyone has any tips, it would be greatly appreciated! ❤️❤️❤️

  • @bunberrier
    @bunberrier 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My group gets fed probably every 2 hours when I am home. I break up veggies into equal pieces and sort of preside over their distribution sometimes. "Cupcake" ( my daughter named her ) likes to dominate the others occasionally, even stepping over her own piece right in front of her to seize another pigs piece. I take the piece she passed on and give it to the pig who has theirs taken. Two entrances and exits are key, glad you mentioned that, but also be aware if your pen design has a choke-point where a pig has to pass to get access to things, a dominant may camp there like a little furry hall monitor. Design not only the hideys that way but also the whole pen. RIP Littlefoot! There he was... back in the day. Sorry if I'm wrong about that.... it was LittleFoot that passed away recently? Great video, thanks!

    I understand how piggies are. But I have had some pigs that fought with every pig they came into contact with-and wounds to care for afterwards. Currently I have two females who each have their own cage but are next door to each other so they can "talk over the fence". I also put them in the large pen for playtime with six other piggie girls, with 2 piles of hay. this helps.

    For my herd of 5 the sole neutered male is second lowest in ranking. I’ve got some agressive and dominant female pigs, whereas the male is so gentle. It doesn’t have to be the male in charge in the pig world!! Also, the most recent female pig I added to the group, who is young at 1 year, became the boss pig!!

      I've personally always found a clean cage with hay and veggies but no hiding spots is best. If you can do it in a pen or even something like an empty bath with towels in the bottom, then I'd do that as personally my piggies know which is their cage and it means the first meeting is in a neutral area that doesn't belong to any of them.

  • @taylorraeboone5564

    I feel like I am struggling with a 'bullying' situation.
    SO... I have three boars. Theo and Ollie (bonded as a pair, Americans, both currently 1 year 7 months old) and Louie (added to the herd 5 months ago, Abby, currently 8 months old). Things have been peaceful (minus the normal boy noises every once in a while) for the five months that they have been together. Everyone was friends with each other and Theo and Ollie were acting entirely normal as if Louie was never added to the herd. It was going flawlessly, which I appreciated, because I was nervous about adding Louie to my bonded pair of boys. Everyone was eating, pooping, drinking... normal! FYI, my trial bonding at the rescue said that Ollie was the boss, Theo was second and Louie was last.
    Until about four days ago. Louie, the 8 month Abby, I feel is trying to take dominance from the older boars. He has aggressively chased Ollie around the cage several times and made Ollie scream. There has been two instances of the tiniest bit of blood from being nipped/bitten on the ear. It was the littlest bit of blood, so I was told not to be concerned. After the last time Louie chased Ollie around the cage rather aggressively, Ollie has been laying in the hay box and in the corner of the cage behind the hides. He has NEVER laid there in his entire existence. He just sits. He usually doesn't let me pet him right away, but now, he just sits there and doesn't even flinch. He is still eating and eats the veggies I place in front of him and comes up to the end of the cage for his morning treat. I would not be freaked out if he wasn't just laying around in these odd places, looking sad/scared, and freezing when I go to pet him...
    I was told through my rescue that trios of boars were indeed possible and that it would all be fine. I was advised to do a trial separation and put Ollie by himself and if he wanted to go back, everything was fine. Well, Ollie broke through the separation to be with his friends, but there has been continuous aggressive chasing, louie biting Ollie and coming out with his hair in his mouth, blood being shed, etc. I then removed Louie from the cage and he is trying to get back inside and everyone in the main cage is trying to get him back. They all seem to want to be together, but as soon as I do, it is complete chaos. I am not sure if Louie is just challenging, but it is becoming too aggressive for me not to be concerned.

    • @skinnypigs1
      @skinnypigs1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Get Louie his own friend. More than 2 boars together is very challenging.
      It will be so much easier to house him with someone else vs trying to make 3 males work.

      @@taylorraeboone5564 a 2by5 is bare minimum for 2 boys. I think the rescue was a bit off saying 2by5 would be fine and saying 3 boys was realistic. You can try doubling the space if you want.

    I dunno hey, I have one guinea pig being constantly attacked and bullied. To the point he's lost almost half a kg, I've taken the bully out and things are looking really positive. I think sometimes you just get a guinea pig that's just am A-hole 🙃😅

    Can you do a video about how to transition your pigs from bedding to fleece? I want to change my piggies to fleece because I think it will be better for them and easier to clean. I am also hoping it will be cheaper! Thank you!❤️

    My piggies haven't quite figured out who the boss is, they both take shots at each other. Or maybe I just haven't figured it out.. My pigs get along very well though and have only nipped at each other when being annoying. But, I do think Mocha may be the boss, because she takes things from Texas and Texas doesn't do anything soooo... I guess Mocha?

    My Guinea girls were doing great together. When one became sick, I had to separate them temporarily. When I put them back together, Basil became extremely bossy toward Romaine. Constantly rumble strutting, stalking, and pushing her away from everything. This has been going on for weeks. Romaine is still eating and drinking but for the majority of the day she is puffed up and hiding. She even whimpers :-( I’m not sure how long to give them before assuming they are not a good match

      @@skinnypigs1 thank you for responding so quickly! They were separated for about a month due to Basil having a mild Upper Respiratory Infection that she couldn’t quite shake. @@Millythemutt How old are the girls?
      Did she get an all clear by the vet? Sitting puffed up isn't normal behaviour unless not feeling well or in pain. The other behaviours from the boss are normal, especially if she is in heat at the time. I would be more concerned why your one girl is puffed up hiding.
      Do you have food at both ends? Easy to get at?
      Some pigs will boss and push ill pigs around, I have had that happen. So just checking that your girl isn't still sick at all.

    • @Millythemutt
      @Millythemutt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skinnypigs1 Basil is 9 months old and Romaine is 3. Basil did get cleared by the vet. The first time I put them back together in their enclosure, Basil pulled out a chunk of Romaine's hair. I then separated and put them in a neutral space. Fortunately they haven't had a big fight since.
      Romaine walks around happily when Basil is sleeping, but the moment Basil is walking close to her she puffs up and sits still. After Basil nips at her or pushes her, she whimpers and puffs up in a hiding spot. I do have multiple areas for hay.
      I will bring Romaine to the vet to check for any illnesses. That's really good to know that Basil's behavior is typical and can often occur when in heat. Thank you for that information!

      @@skinnypigs1 Just want to add that I just refilled the two bowls of pellets and Romaine happily walked out to one of the bowls. I had in 1983 a guinea who was so bad.And gave it to an employee of my friend.It had a very strange name of a character who later asked my late wife that she did her part living and discontinued her permanent ordered medicin.A kindred spirit deja vu guineapig.
    In 1990 I had a guinea terrible and called it "Bristlepig" Very bad!
    It played possum when I berated it! But immediately became rambunctious after leaving.It stopped it's own hart.
