    I‘m a bloody amateur with a lot of cameras I used in the past, Nikon D80, D500, D7100, D850, D750, Z6II, Z50 and now I made the total crazy decision (for an amateur) and bought the Z8. And for the first time I have the feeling that I have arrived my destination and don't want anything else anymore.
    The Z8 is just fantastic. The body was built for my hands. I can sign everything you said about this camera.

      It's one of the camera's I've been most excited about after testing! It's just so good. Worth the wait. Shame about the product recalls, but hopefully once these are resolved, Nikon are onto a real winner here. Hope you love using your Z8 and thanks for watching!

      Sometimes buying a product is an acknowledgement to ourselves, "My abilities are worthy of this," since many of us are trained to avoid ever saying that of ourselves. Congrats, you are worthy.

    Great review and I have the Z9 cameras for action, sports and wildlife. The Z8 for me the deal breaker is the 2 different card types plus the smaller buffer size with additional battery grip cost brings into the realm of the Z9.

      Thanks for watching! Spot on observation with the card slots on the Z8 - and really I should have mentioned this in the review. If you're set to backup onto the SD card, this will limit you. I tend not to set up this way and will shoot to the one card so I didn't experience any issues with buffer as I was relying on the Type B card only in the Z8. In the Z9, I shot stills to one and video to another. This (slightly risky... granted!) approach suits our workflow.
      I think if you're always going to shoot with a battery grip, then it's worth considering going up to the Z9 - for me personally... I'd prefer the versatility of a smaller camera when I need it and the option to add a grip when I need that. I absolutely loved using both of these cameras though and looking forward to getting my hands on them again soon!

    Hi, I am wondering if the resolution on the Z9 viewfinder with 9.4m dot be better to see or 3.7 m on the Z8? Which preview is more accurate and matches the final image process by the same sensor of 45.7mp? thank you

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The two cameras have the same viewfinder so you’ll not see any difference between them 👍🏻

    Good AF for birding arrives after 1 year for Z9...its wonderful and more impressive if this can be improved further to match the one in canon cameras

    I’m a wedding photographer and been using D850 since 2020. But I think it’s time for the new step. I'm hesitating between this two to buy...the difference is about €500. What do you suggest?

      Hi, either will be a great option for you. We cover all the features the two cameras share and how they differ throughout the video and then summarise from 17.57 - hopefully by the time you've finished watching you'll have all the information to decide which camera best suits your specific requirements 😊

    Hello, I want to buy Nikon Z8 & I want Lense that will cover me in any situation. In this couple of months Nikkon got new lenses, 2 of them are so fresh that one is not even on sale because it's not in stock.
    But there is many to choose.
    I want to buy lense that will stick with Me and My Z8 for years & cover me at weddings, parties, picture & record wild life (macro, Zooming), sport fast situations, city, concerts, low light situations, alot of light, full daylight sunny days situations.
    What will be the very best for that?
    Also, what kind of program for editing will cover all editing for photos & videos from it?
    Thanks for anserws :)

    • @WilkinsonCameras

      You’re going to need more than one lens to cover all those uses! Probably 3 in reality.
      Our best advice would be to contact your local camera experts. If you’re in the UK, then get in touch:
      www.wilkinson.co.uk/contact-us/
      If not, form a relationship with a camera company local to you (or same country) who will be able to advise you and guide you for years to come.
      Editing can be quite a personal choice, but we use the Adobe suite including Lightroom, Photoshop and Premiere.

    Perhaps the best thing about NRaw being unsupported in Premiere Pro is to encourage people to get away from their whole workflow being in Adobe...
    The mode button on the top left has been in Nikon cameras since 1988. It was one of the things which made many consider the Z7 a "consumer" camera, and the Z9/Z8 getting the four buttons back identifies them as "pro" level. Meanwhile, the Zf reviews hate the PASM lever. Nobody is happy, except the people who actually use the Nikon cameras regularly...

    Although a great camera and one that outperforms its peers from other brands, having dual CFexpress cards is pretty much vital for me. I shoot redundant and the SD slot in the Z8 is a significant bottleneck for burst shooting.

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching - yes, this is the only downside really. For professionals, I can completely understand the need for a backup and the second card slot on the Z8 could therefore be a limit.

      What people really wanted was the Z9 with the integrated grip sliced off with a scalpel, available for separate purchase.

    Since the 180-600 hasn't arrived yet, I've barely used my Z8, but just in terms of build quality, I think it's kind of disappointing. You're paying 4600€ in Europe and get a plastic body. Even my first camera ever, the 999€ Fuji X-S10, had a full magnesium body.

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks for watching! The Z8 is magnesium alloy and carbon composite (reinforced plastic around a magnesium alloy shell - as with most cameras, even at this price point) but is also weather and dust sealed. I really think the Z8 feels very well made and robust, whilst maintaining the lower weight we've come to expect from mirrorless cameras and it's certainly less plasticky feeling than some cameras at a similar price point. You should get out and put it through it's paces using your existing lenses or Nikon F lenses with a teleconverter - it's an incredible camera - too good to be waiting to be used!

    Nice overall summary and good footage and images.
    HOWEVER:
    - It is simply ludicrous to support a lens like 100-400 (or any lens with a foot on it) on a Z9 or Z8 from the camera when there is a lens foot for this precise role -- -- why set such a bad example?
    - Why upto 1000 images? This all depends on the size of the card.
    - The Base ISO for video recording in N-Log is still 800 in both the Z8 and Z9.
    N-Log's ISO 800 is not really ISO 800 as one understands it when shooting still images (where ISO is linearly related to signal gain).
    Most people fail to understand that recording videos in N-Log is simply not the same as ISO for stills
    N-log is Nikon’s version of
    logarithmic recording (as opposed to linear), where skin
    tones are generally placed at about the 60% level, blacks
    just above 0%, and whites just below 100% (in pixel
    values).Log-format recordings preserves highlights and shadows The white point of N-Log is D65. The gamut for N-Log is same as the wide color gamut known as “ITU-R BT.2020”.
    The Base (ISO 800) N-Log delivers the maximum dynamic range (12-stops) while shooting vids (preferably in N-RAW)
    With Firmware 4.0 Nikon added two LOW settings in the Z9 not the Z8. When Lo 0.3 or Lo 1.0 are selected all these do is crunch the highlights reducing dynamic range. There is no impact on shadows. Nikon and others provide the warning notice that use of these low settings reduce dynamic range.
    There is NO impact on noise in video recordings when low settings are chosen. Whereas whenever higher ISO settings are selected any noise recorded is amplified when gain is applied to brighten the data.
    What is "interesting" in the Z8 and Z9 is they have effectively two base ISOs 64 and ~500 - this comes from the dual gain amplification technology (as part of the analog-to-digital conversion "ADC") used in these cameras (and others too). These cameras are ISO-less for ISO settings between 64 upto ISO 400 and then again from ISO 500 upwards after the ADC circuitry kicks in. This means the same output can be achieve either by shooting correctly exposed or by brightening an image shot at either 64 or 500 later. However, it is best practice not to push images in post by more than +3EV. The basic lesson is one should expose your subject correctly (shutter / aperture settings to freeze motion and provide sufficient dept of focus) and then select an ISO that allows the camera to achieve best AF and or even exposes slightly to the right (ETTR) to ensure shadow data is not lost, while avoiding clipping highlights.
