I just learned about Comparative Literature being a thing today and it’s super exciting to learn about!! I think this video does a great job of explaining it to a layperson. Thank you!!
I have done MPhil in Comparative Literature, and for my coursework I had to read an essay by Steven Totosy de Zepetenek. The essay highlights the growing unpopularity and constantly diminishing interest of students and academia in the discipline which got me really worried. I really don't know if I should pursue my studies further in the discipline..can you please talk about its future scope a little bit?
Hi! Whilst I am yet to read that essay, I would say comparative literature, like all humanities fields, are in a dire state due to a very poor academic job market. Just remember your MPhil is a fantastic accomplishment on its own and you've already proven you are well versed in comparative literature. A PhD is really, training for the academic job market. It is not necessary for most corporate jobs. Best of luck.
What is your favourite novel not written in English?
Mostly Manga 😅
Can't go wrong with Manga!
The Brothers Karamazov
The Memory Police
