Making a Skeletonized Hammer - COPPER or BRASS hammer? HAMMER TIME!

  • I wanted to create a unique machinists hammer with removable soft blow faces. I designed the hammer handle with a skeletonized look. I cast the body of the hammer out of A365 aluminum and the faces are copper and brass. This was a fun project that I hope you all enjoy watching!

Can you please make a handle out of leather or some other material to use the open sections to tie stuff to. Perhaps put some padding-style material in the groove handle and wrap it cross-style using the holes near the bottom. Another thing is that the top having those random shapes to make the X is kind of cool, but it would be REALLY cool if instead of that it was your LOGO and the middle line goes all the way down the handle inside the groove. Love your videos!

Awesome hammer one quick tip for the interchangeable faces just drill and tap a 1/4-20 hole for a set screw so you never have to worry about the ends being loose. But I definitely wish I could buy that hammer very slick idea.

I really liked the idea of this hammer having the head screwed on. In theory you can create other heads for this hammer and change them as needed. It can transform into a rubber-headed hammer (used in woodworking), tipped steel head, or even a small ax or wheel wrench.

I've made essentially exactly this before, just less cool looking and the one warning I have for this kind of thing is that even though the screw-on faces are soft, with enough use they will completely deform the actual hammer head.
This was bad enough on mine that the whole thing had to be scrapped so for v2 I put a thin (2mm ish) replaceable plastic washer behind each head to soak up the impacts and it seems to work well.

We did sand casting, sheet metal work and machine work on a lathe.
I made a small 2 faced hammer out of steel, brass and aluminum.
The head was about 1/2" diameter, was 2/3 steel & 1/3 brass. The handle was aluminum about 1/2" in diameter tapered to 1/4" tapped to fit into the head.

Looks really nice I'd recommend adding a small slit from the threads to the side not a something deep just a tiny 20tho deep slit to release an air trap in 2-5 years when you swap the ends out otherwise in a few years once oil and grime builds up it will trap a vacuum and feel like it was epoxy together.
Another option is coat the flats in blue loctie this will seal out dirt and make it even more solid when you want to swap the end just heat it up to around 350deg for a min or two and it will spin right off

Pick up your cross and follow Jesus! The world is quickly headed for destruction, and sooner or later you will have to sit at the judgement seat and give an account for your actions. Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life! - Revelation 3:20.
Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God tho.
Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc and you should get a response. Have a blessed day!

I love the idea of more "sustainable" tools, a light aluminum body hammer with replaceable heads is really cool! The only thing i cold say is maybe have a counterweight slot in the base? i could see some heads messing with the tool by being too unwieldy due to top weight.

I worry that if one of those faces comes unscrewed just a tiny bit that the hammer blows will ruin your threads. I honestly dont see the handle outlasting the heads by a significant amount of time. Re-machining the heads just a tiny bit when they are damaged could make those heads last for years. But a cast aluminum handle with skeletal cutouts... idk. Looks super cool either way, definitely something any craftsman would love to own

A common first semester project for anyone who's taken an introductory machine tool class is a soft face hammer with screw on faces. Mine has an aluminum face on one side and brass on the other. The faces on mine have never come loose, and I've been using it for 20 years now. But hey, when in doubt, use some loctite. :)

I’m so jealous of all the equipment you have. That’s got to be so fun getting to make whatever you want and having the right tool for the job to make it easier to get the job done. Cheers mate!
