As a mandolin player of celtic tunes and a blues based guitarist this makes a whole lot of sense and opens up a whole new way of playing when venturing into bluegrass territory. Thankyou for making those connections.
this is where I start getting lost with theory. I know major and minor and where to play but why would I think to play the A minor over C. Any help would be appreciated if someone can help me understand
If you go to my "Learn the Fretboard" playlist and checkout some of the Chord Scale content it'll help get you up to speed on this. Thx for engaging in the comments and good luck!

If A minor work in C, does B minor work in D?
Yep! Experiment with this in all keys.
