Lurkers are great and streamers love them! Maybe I didn't explain well enough in the video... calling lurkers out is when you specifically talk to someone who has never spoke up in your chat bc you see their name in the viewer list. Not everyone is watching to participate in chat, and it can cause them to just leave

I was just homeless for 6 years and ironically enough starting my TH-cam journey during that time. As of four months ago, I'm now in my own place and have bought some equipment and have space to dive in and learn how to stream properly.
I've shared and gave so much praise to this video and downloaded it so I will ALWAYS have it as a reference in the future. You've done more for me than you know in helping me on my path and I want to thank you tremendously for doing so🙏🏿

This is SUCH a nice, informative video! I just started streaming daily a few months ago and I see my stream growing slowly but steadily and some of these things brought up here are things I need to think of constantly. Something I absolutely love about this video is how encouraging you are, I feel like some videos on how to get started on twitch are very "why do you want to do this" "rethink your options" just things that are very discouraging to even try to stream at all, not everyone is looking to do this as a fulltime thing but rather something to have fun with once or twice a week.

Not only do I really appreciate this as someone that is setting up to start streaming for the first time, but I HAD to point out that I have the same water fountain (several of them) for my cats and all four are obsessed. Lmao!!! I have a history of creating successful social media platforms but haven't ever done anything like Twitch. As a disease I'm dealing with progresses I cannot go out and do the active hobbies I used to enjoy, and I already work from home and have a beautiful, aesthetic, cozy home office with a bad ass setup (and EVERYTHING I need to game/stream outside of a freaking capture card, ugh) so I turned to my brother (a seasoned Twitch streamer) to ask for advice. He's going to help me get my software setup and give me some pointers and help me create away scenes etc., but I am a RESEARCHER. So, to TH-cam I came, and I found you first! I love seeing a woman that doesn't seem to be SUPER young giving this advice. I'm 33, but I love being online and gaming and it's an accessible hobby I'm ready to jump into in hopes of building a community. Thanks for doing this! I'm going to be binge watching your content all night.

Ooh so I always struggled with engagement beyond just chatter. I can chatter all day. But my friend has a system whereby people would spend their stream points on a treat for her cat or a fuss or something.
I can never think of a way of engaging people with my game beyond the usual ‘here are my thoughts, where do you think I should go next?’
If you have any insights on that it’d be appreciated. Of course I know there’s no replacement for just ‘sparkling chatter and stories and talking’ but I’d love to involve my viewers in the actual games more.

seconded! I’m disabled and am effectively HoH bc of receptive language/auditory processing issues, and I notice a lot of more successful disabled/Deaf/HoH streamers have similar privilege in that we appear ablebodied or don’t “sound deaf” (quoting other ppl here, obv I don’t think there’s necessarily a single way of sounding deaf lol), but even with that privilege, it might make creating content less fraught, but it doesn’t make it easier to engage with OTHER ppl’s content. and obv autocaptions aren’t super great, but tbh they’re better than nothing. it’s all rly frustrating and makes the “spend time in the categories you plan to stream in” advice in this video really hard to implement :/

Hi! I feel like I’m somewhat qualified to answer this. In total, I’ve been on TH-cam for about a year doing kpop dances. Recently I started a gaming channel and a twitch. Overall, I haven’t had much growth, and in the beginning it really got to me, but now I know how to over come it.
      - straight up ignore the stats (it’s quite extreme, but you’ll have more fun once you don’t care about the views)
      - acknowledge the stats but shrug it off
      - don’t try and create fan based content. By this I mean don’t do QnAs, fan recommendations etc until you have people do actually do them with. When you get 1-5 comments, it can be demotivating that there aren’t more people, and it really highlights that. My advice is just to wait off until you start getting questions or whatnot without you asking.
If you’re curious, on my dance channel I have 30 subs and average between 15-50 views. On my gaming I have 8 subs and 5-30 views. On my twitch I average at about 1-2 viewers per stream and 20ish followers :)

I’ve always wanted to be a content streamer. I’m so introverted lol😅, but I like relating to people when it comes to different topics. You gave all of us sooooo much great info! Thank you for this video😊! I’ll keep all of this in mind when I start my twitch channel in a few months😊.

Why are you so underrated? Like, I like the way you talk, my attention was glued to this video( that's why I just followed you on twitch). I actually want to start streaming but I don't have the perfect location for it (our place is so loud) and I just started my sideline job so I could make money and afford the equipments, I also don't want to show my face (I have weird content ideas but I swear it'll be entertaining 😂), my english isn't perfect when I speak. But I'm persistent, and this video just encouraged me more so...

This was a great video with a lot of helpful information. You mention consistency and it's importance, I like how u added the little guitar riff and mouse click between segments. That's the kind of consistency that helps viewers associate something with you.

This is incredibly helpful - I've been thinking about content streaming for years but never pulled the trigger on it due to not having any ideas how these things worked. Thank you for this tutorial!
As for what videos that would be super helpful (assuming you haven't made it yet), you mention using video capture from streams for TH-cam videos, but video editing is really intimidating. I'd love to see a tutorial (or a rec to a tutorial) on beginner video editing specific to streamers and streamer to video content.

I know I'm a year late and the game has probably changed since this video was released. However, I'm already doing most of these things (which im very proud of myself for) I just wanted to give you props for being so straightforward about everything! I've only been streaming for a couple weeks now but I'm busting my @$$ and having a blast doing it too! 😁 The one big takeaway that I learned from this though is the raiding advice. I'm going to have to start doing that after my streams!
TL;DR Thank you so much! Even though I'm working hard to cover all my bases, I still learn something new every day! You're awesome!

@@caustic9921 I think what they're saying is that being a woman doesn't necessarily put you at an advantage when it comes to being a successful streamer. Some people think that women have an advantage in the streaming business because the community is predominantly male.

    • @SaintsPurgatory
      @SaintsPurgatory 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Are you saying trans women should'nt stream either? Or are you saying women can't make it on twitch or any other streaming platform because they're the wrong gender? There are so many women that have big audiences on twitch so I don't know where you get the stats.
