    Great video! And that's wonderful to know about research focusing on more diverse couples than just married hetero folks. As far as gender being a factor in stonewalling, I wonder if it has to do with how people are born, or more with how people are socialized.

    Since you mentioned gender (males) for stonewalling, so are there any that the females are more likely to do like criticism, contempt?

    • @ParallelWellness
      @ParallelWellness  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I haven't read that in the research. There is a lot to be said about how men are raised regarding expression and processing emotions. Stonewalling is a coping (albeit ineffective) strategy for feeling overwhelmed with emotion.

      I'm not an expert or anything, but from personal anecdote and being a woman myself, I'd say women are a lot more prone to criticism. More women are typically cleanly and more emotionally sensitive, plus they tend to vent their frustrations more. Men are typically taught to bottle things or let it go, and are thus less prone to criticism. This isn't always the case, (as it is with my own,) but, in a majority of cases, women definitely do a lot more criticizing, especially if they weren't taught how to properly communicate.

      Interesting question, I have stonewalled a lot in the past, but it wasn’t because I was overwhelmed. It was more to withdraw into a safer place so I didn’t get physically attacked by the other person’s anger/frustration towards me.
