Just the right proportion of joy, ministry, humour and crankiness - Great talk Fr. Brendan!

Music to my ears, your words about crying babies. Or should I say ‘crying babies.’ Thank you from a mother of three future tithe-ers! 😉

Not to veil, to cover their heads.i remember when very elaborate and expensive hats were worn.

The bit about being a corrupt parish priest and the sound of crying babies being the sounds of the future and money, while I assume to be slightly in jest, was also quite funny.

We live in the age of the most abundant ways to communicate in the history of the world. We can call, text, Snapchat, Instagram, email, tweet, Facebook, Tik-Tok, etc. etc, etc. So why do people feel the need to sit in the pews and ramble on and on-usually with the same people that they live with, the same ones that they just spent twenty minutes in the car on the way to church??? And what is the problem with leaving the damned phone in your car? Lock it up, but at most churches I’ve been to, nobody’s car has ever been broken into. Most churches have nice “coffee and donuts” rooms where people can chat and decide where they’re going to eat at or if they’re going to Walmart instead, without having to discuss it in the sanctuary, where our Lord is present. I was trying to pray after mass once, to thank God for it, when I was distracted by loud conversation and laughter. When I finally had to look up to “shush” the person, it was the priest!!! It’s gotten terrible in most places. Thanks for this, Father, I wish more priests would preach on this. We owe it to Our Lord.

You have touched a nerve. I live in Belfast and have to say that I have come to dislike going into churches now. This week alone, the rosary group sitting at the back full on chats. The Eucharist minister, an older lady and daily mass goer, going round her friends chatting away . I thought I was in a pub. One church has a “holy shop” at the back. During the after mass rosary, it’s like a cattle market. There are also the occasional ones that answers their phone. I just come out saddened and a bit angry. I feel like shouting at them, “my Fathers house is a house of prayer “.

Great episode Fr Brendan. I've decided to become a Patreon supporter. I can't pledge an awful lot but I hope it helps in some way. Can't wait until the next episode!

"If your chest is itchy, scratch it. If you cross yourself, cross yourself. They're two distinct functions." - lol
Thank you again, Fr Brendan, for this call to elegance, finesse, refinement, gracefulness and graciousness. Yes, let us each add as much of our own beauty to the Mass as we can.

Churches need to put up large signs in the Porch door telling people to keep quite , no phones 📵 or talking etc . That’s the world we are living in now I’m afraid .....

Thank you Father Brendan! I live in Texas and just discovered your channel. I love your Irish accent and turn of phrase! You make many good points in your video. I go to a parish where people talk quite a bit before mass and it's very distracting. I wish our priest would address this situation but so far he hasn't. Another thing I've noticed is the way people dress for mass. I know not everyone has money to buy beautiful clothes but sometimes in trying to be stylish young people wear torn jeans, the kind that are torn on purpose, and women wear tops with bear backs. And very often, young women wear really short skirts. It shouldn't be that hard to wear something appropriate for mass!

I know I’m a troglodyte, but one thing I’ll never get used to is short pants at Mass. Ostensibly, we go to Mass to worship, not to play tennis! (Last summer one man showed up wearing not only short pants but also a tee-shirt advertising a local casino.)

“It drives me cracked. I see these devout Catholics. They put in 20 cent, and they take out a clutch of candles that could light up the city of Dublin.” Lol 😂
