@@ptronix I'm not good at reading (or speaking) Mandarin dialect printed in many of these manuals. I hope you get your 10W gift from them. Happy Holidays to a great guy. 73'
Thanks Nick. I think I'll stick with my hokey homemade cable and chirp. Supplementary question... Should a Quansheng be set to narrow or wide deviation on 2m? I'm assuming it's narrow. 73, Steve
Hi Steve, yes probably better to stick with chirp. Radio should be set to wide, otherwise the transmitted audio will be quiet and make sure the mic gain is set to 4 also. Any other questions on the radio contact me by email. Best wishes nick
Looks like a really handy radio frequency manager/programmer, Nick. Back in the day I'd use the PC for this, now all integrated on the phone. Thanks for the review. Bet it requires the internet connection so you can get all the latest 'drivers' for new radios as they are added/needed. Easier than updating the application software and filling the phone full of every driver in existence - just connect to a repository of them and grab the one it needs. Sounds like the Quansheng might need an update? -Joe
Hi Joe, yes it's OK. Not sure I'll use it that much. When you get used to a PC for programming radios it hard to get used to something different. Might be useful if I needed to programme someone else's radio away from home. That explains the need for the Internet then, makes sense. I'll have to look into how you update the Quansheng firmware. Hope you feel better as it warms up there.
@@ptronix I got brave and loaded mine with facgi firmware. You can do it with your cable and from a browser (either chrome or edge). You need to hold PTT in while switching on the radio, then release PTT. The flashlight will come on and it'll be ready for flashing. Plenty of websites with instructions... Cheers, Steve p.s. CHIRP still works with facgi firmware.
@@oldblokehhi Steve. Because I'd nothing better to do I thought I'd have ago at changing the firmware on mine. Bear in mind I've not a 'scooby ' about this stuff. But used a site that was recommended (uv mod) and after a lot of faffing around I loaded new configurable firmware. Including TX from from 20 to 1300 Mhz. Also installed a better S meter which is actually quite an improvement. But then I braved the workshop to test the power on 27, 50 and 70 Mhz as someone had asked me to check spurious emissions on 27 Mhz. Well it was a maximum of a few hundred mw on those brands with spurious signals of Watts! But while I was testing I checked the power again on 2m and 70cm. 2 was OK but 70cm way down in power when set to high. I discovered that when you set it to medium power then that is now high! So it's really screwed up the radio! Re flashed the firmware without extended transmitt and the problem with power settings still there. And I've no idea how to fix this. And no clue how to get back to the original firmware. So just have to remember M is the new H! I bloody hate programming!
I can't figure out how to use these things, so I always depend on a clear and concise manual printed in English. Great find Nick, I ordered two.
Two Paul, Just in case you loose one?
I'm hoping they like this video as I've asked them to send me one of their 10 watt handhelds, we shall see

@@ptronix If builders built buildings the way programmers write software, the first strong breeze would destroy civilisation.
@@ptronix Hi Nick. I think I've found the original firmware. I'll drop you a mail with the link.
Hi thanks for video, would like to try one of these… so I ordered it, 👍
Hope it works well for you. Must admit I still prefer 'chirp' for programming radios
