A lot of comedians can say funny things and evoke a laugh, but there's something so innately funny and original about the concept of putting a bike lock on someone else's bike that tells me this man has that real natural funny bone
It is not that original. I saw other people do that joke too. That does not mean that he or the other people stole it, but it is not too hard to come up with especially this joke. Kinda like almost anybody can come up with a joke about washingmachines eating socks like Seinfeld did.

Agree, I have the same perspective with hip hop. Take out profanity and the n word. What does that leave you? With not much content at all. That's how I distinguish talented from non talented.

His timing and understated delivery were impeccable, his improv skills when he worked the audience were impressive and every joke landed. I mean I actually replay the baby monitor joke three and four times like a song I really like. One of the best sets I've seen by any comedian ever.
I’m still sad no one in the audience went to UC Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs has to be the only example of a college mascot showing how little they give a sh*t about athletics, and I absolutely love that. My brother joined the ‘Banana Slug Track Team’ just to give me the free t-shirt. He got access to a free track, and I finally got a shirt that realistically reflects how fast I run. My high school PE teacher was the only one nonplussed by it. But what else do you expect from a middle-aged guy who paints his entire face like a tiger every Friday night unironically?

Well yeah but most of the time I imagine comedians hire people to sit in the audience and give a predetermined answer the comedian can write a joke about. I was watching a Jimmy Carr special and someone said they were afraid of spiders. Jimmy followed it up with a picture on the screen of someone who had been killed by a spider, and the spider was right next to the person in the picture. How would he have known to put that picture in the slideshow if the answer to his question. was random?
... There's a clear point where he doesn't get the answer he needs and just says so and does his line anyway ('what did you do for Valentines? ') .... Clearly he's a comedy genius but maybe watch what happens again?

The way he delivers is insane. It's incredibly subtle, but the design of the joke hits you like a truck. The Battleship bit is absolutely hilarious. "They should just call it number-letter. It's bingo with toys on it" So good.
asking the audience a question and then actually using what they gave you in such a way as the valentines question is masterful. Love his pace and timing.
I love how he moves from saying that leaving a cart in a parking spot is the "most selfish thing you can do", to telling us to take someone else's groceries that they have "gathered".

That was a really clever bit and i dont deny that, but you can see him a moment before picking the bottle just holding it on the table waiting for the clapping to near the end to make that bit.

Someone locked my bike with his lock.. i tried and called the police to unlock it for me, but since I couldn't proove on the spot, that this old bike belonged to me (I bought it used from a collegue) all they did was add ANOTHER Police-lock to the already twofold locked bike... I think in this case he established that room. He got them laughing straight off the bat...who wants to ruin it at that point? He was genuinely funny so by the time he started asking questions everyone wanted to be part of it instead of a heckler.
No he isn't. He wasted invaluable material by doing nothing with the woman in the audience. Paula Poundstone can make an entire joke several minutes long ad libbing with the audience before ever getting back to her set material. This guy got nothing out of it.

Where I live we have three high schools. The Bruins, the Trojans, and the Kewpies (their mascot is a naked baby).

That was a really clever bit and i dont deny that, but you can see him a moment before picking the bottle just holding it on the table waiting for the clapping to near the end to make that bit.

I think in this case he established that room. He got them laughing straight off the bat...who wants to ruin it at that point? He was genuinely funny so by the time he started asking questions everyone wanted to be part of it instead of a heckler.
