I have marvel legends Mr Fantastic with bendy wire limbs from ToyBiz era. It still fine. That must be close to 20 years old by now. So, it should be okay.

You’re honestly not putting the figure on a pedestal. You’re not milking the hype or anything.
You’re being realistic with your expectations as an experienced figure collector and it should be obvious to anyone who purchased this figure what they were getting themselves into.
I deliberately avoided this figure because I wanted to see what the reviews looked like and how people actually took notice of the figures construction as well as its capabilities. But I have found many just bashing the figure because the rubber legs/arms don’t hold the pose as much, or the cloud getting in the way etc.
things that make sense but ultimately are nothing-burgers as it’s to be expected of the design.
Like any and ALL figures that have come out and will ever come out…there are things this figure does well and things it doesn’t.
For me, as the first attempt at Gear 5, this figure captures Joy Boy absolutely perfectly.
The face sculpts alone sell the figure and easily make it a 7.5/10 and a solid 8/10 if you know the hacks to make it pose even better (without mods)
Obviously they could’ve included articulated arms and legs, but as vetted SHF customers….we should be horribly familiar with Tamashis game and know they WILL sell an articulated-limb version in the future. It’s inevitable(insert thanos meme)

Very well said. I can’t stand those people that say a figure sucks when all they did is take it out of the box and do some half-assed posing. They don’t look at the construction of the figure, its strengths and limitations.
All I heard with base Luffy is you can’t pose him, his knees are too limited, he can’t get in a gear 2 pose. Turns out, he can, and a pretty damn good one.
Zoro is even a better example. He is an obnoxious figure, I’m not gonna lie, but if you learn the mechanics, and have a bit of sense on how materials react with each other and push and pull against each other, you can get him in prette wide stances without needing replacement cloth skirt pieces.
The only thing where this line really fails imo is effect pieces and particularly gum-gum and haki effects. If only they did that instead of the constant Luffy faces, this line would be much more fun. I was kinda hoping that the bendable arms and legs could be interchanged with base Luffy but sadly that seems not to be the case and it’s a missed opportunity. Otherwise, except for Zoro’s poor design, I really can’t fault this line too much.

I haven’t picked up one figure in this line but I can see the potential and honestly the fact that Bandai took a risk giving G5 Luffy all bendy appendages is pretty neat. Shows they are starting to try new things instead of playing it safe.
As a company with almost unlimited facets for money I unfortunately hold them to the highest standards(unfair for the common worker at Bandai but more so for execs and project directors) so it should come to no surprise that this Luffy is great BUT at the same time could be better
The fact that they listened to people’s complaints about the back of the knees and added the articulated portion is great(even tho the bendy legs don’t really need that lol). I think they can obviously improve upon the design and will certainly make an articulated version…tho I’m very confident there are those already looking to make 3rd party articulated arm/leg attachments for G5 Luffy
And I didn’t know the Base Luffy could do the G2 Pose, it does seem nigh impossible without getting too crazy, but I’ll hold you to that!
At the end of the day, the figures we get will only be as good as the technology they’ve been created with. And right now we are in a golden age of figure technology innovation.
Who know what 6inch scale figures will be like in 10 years or 20.

Thank you! And that I cannot say for sure. I haven’t seen anyone actually show them taking it out and transferring it to the budget figure. I’ve seen some ppl making customs using the budget parts tho.
I’ll be in the lookout tho to see if I find anything of the sort because ik one of the biggest things ppl wanted was normal articulated limos to use/swap in with this fig when not using the wire.

Getting new forms of the big 3 this year is so fire. KCM 2 Naruto Gear 5 Luffy and Dual Zangetsu Ichigo. Definitely still favor Naruto most but this figure is so fire can’t wait for mine to arrive. And Ichigo also looks amazing can’t wait for him.

Will definitely be doing some modifications on my copy like trimming the shorts flap and will carve out more range for the ball on the underside of the ab piece hopefully allowing some more range.
I really think the normal size limbs could've been articulated like budget Luffy with the long one being bendy i only prefer it because of longevity.
I would be scared pulling this out of a years storage just to see its ruined while muddy every other figure is fine.
I also don't like that they skin tone is slightly different, i noticed when you had the foot swapped?

i love the figure but i still hope bandai or another company decide to do a kit with normal legs and arms just in case but overal its a really good figure and honestly think the bendy wires will last a good time (specially if you take care of them and not force them a lot)

The "cloud" is a raiment if you want the technical term.
A raiment is similar to a halo on an angel in western culture. Divine being usualy have some form of them, and they hover behind or around said beings on their own. Aqua from Konosuba has one made of a pink silk-like material.

Depends, if your asking about just swapping the ab pieces between each figure then no. But if you mean take one whole upper torso and exchange it with the other you can do that. The peg holes are the same. It would just mean you’d have to paint budget Luffys shirt and sleeves the same color as g5 luffy to match.

Yes you can swap the torsos as they have the same peg hole size luckily.

How do I put the head that came with the gear 5 luffy on the regular luffy ? There different when I take the head off the regular luffy he has a ball peg in his head and not on the neck and the gear 5 head had a ball peg on the neck
Take the neck peg from the Onigashima luffy head and attach it back to the figures neck. And attach the transformation head onto the neck peg.
Where to purchase?
This figure isn't meant to be heavily "played" with. If you just change pose once or twice a month at most, it's gonna last you many years
Do you think that this would be good for stop motion or not due to the bendy wire?
I’m no expert in that department but I think it should be fine. You’ll have to have a lot more patience with it tho. Since you’ll have the cloud to deal with and the bendy wire arms and legs don’t stay in the same position the first time you pose it like as if u had normal articulated limbs.

Yes, I gave my full fledged thoughts and breakdown given the fact it’s one of my most anticipated figures and I had a lot of excitement showing off the figure. No one is forcing anyone to watch the entire 43 minutes.
There are chapters included as well for the ppl looking specifically for something out of this figure.

I hate hate HATE the shorts, really annoying and ugly looking. The fact they didn't recycled anything that works from previous Luffy is bothering. He's my last OP figure, until they stop experimenting and give the same care they give to JJK or Naruto.
