The Best Southern Fried Chicken Livers

    Southern Fried Chicken Livers
    Now I know chicken livers is an acquired taste. And I am so glad I acquired it. Southern fried chicken livers are so good. They are crispy on the outside like fried chicken, but creamy on the inside. Just be careful not to over cook them or you'll have an eraser to chew on. Let me know what you think about this version and y'all enjoy.

    Ingredients:
    1 pint size package chicken livers
    1 cup buttermilk
    1/4 cup tabasco sauce
    1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon pepper
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon cayenne
    1 teaspoon smoked paprika
    enough oil to cover about 3-4 inches of Dutch oven
    Drain the chicken livers and place in the buttermilk and tabasco sauce and let sit about an hour.
    Combine remaining ingredients in a flat dish.
    Pull the chicken livers from the buttermilk mixture and place in the flour mixture.
    Dredge on both sides to coat well and then place on a cooling rack. Do this with remaining livers
    Dredge a second time to thicken the coating and then place in 375°F preheated Dutch oven with oil
    Fry for about 4 minutes, turning once to brown sides evenly.
    Place on a paper towel lined plate to absorb the excess oil and salt to taste

      Love them!! Never cooked them myself because they pop!! Never knew to stab or perferate them!! Makes sense!!

    We grew up living in town but we raised chickens for our family…every fall we would take one whole ,long day ,where everyone in the family,aunts,uncles,cousins would butcher..men scald,pluck women clean and wrap..seemed to me that during the fall,winter and spring on sundays after church all the family’s had fried chicken with mashed potatoes with the fixings..summer was butchering a cow and one pig from my uncles farm..the chicken livers and gizzards were like winning the lottery for us kids,,still love them..we live in the upper Midwest (wisconsin)…we took a trip a couple years ago down south..1st Golden Corral I ever ate at that had chicken liver…they can have their prime rib,ham,pork chops…I think I just about ate them out of livers…😊

    I love the livers and gizzards! When the family gets the chicken I get the livers. These look good. Going to try it, soaking in the buttermilk and hot sauce

    Chicken gizzards are tough. Livers are soft, tender and favorful!

      Slow roast the gizzards in oil (275 degrees) for 8 hours, and you'll LUV them.

    Thanks for sharing. I love livers. We make a cornbread liver stuffing for thanksgiving. It’s the best part of the meal.

    Oh goodness my husband and I love fried chicken livers. We live in Oklahoma and we both grew up on them. I make them at least once a month🙂. I fix mine just like you do.

    I grew up in Alabama and these were my favorite as a kid! I moved to Texas when I was a teenager and haven’t had them since. My husband and kids have never tried them so I’m gonna attempt to make some. ❤️

    This looks really great!…. I LOVE that no one in my house likes chicken livers….. MORE FOR ME! This gives me great ideas on how I’d like mine! Does Driscoll ever go bad? Or rancid? I have some in my cabinet that is years old…..

      I've had it for years and it doesn't...you'll be able to smell if it went bad

    I love chicken livers (and gizzards lol). When I would travel to see my son in college, in Mississippi, I would make sure that I got them. I also needed fried green tomatoes. We can't get those yummy things in Wisconsin. I will be using your recipe!

    I haven’t seen chicken liver or gizzards in the stores in years. I do get beef/veal liver now and then (when no one else is home) for a panful with onions.

    My son goes to MIZZOU college in Columbia, MO and there is a Lee's there. I get a big box of livers every time I go there.

    Very good show...I will definitely stab mine...making some tomorrow. I wish my mom would have made us eat tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, other veggies cause we are adults trying to like those things but not much at all...so make your kids eat some of these things 😕

    I could probably try to eat my weight in Lee's chicken livers. I'm going to try your seasonings on my next ones and see what I think I have actually not got to get or play with any smoked paprika yet and I'm kind of anxious too.

    Use a splatter screen rather than piercing the liver with a knife, or you'll end up with dried out liver in the end. Retaining moisture is key here.

    I use to occasionally eat chicken livers with my mom as a child because you did not waste anything. Now I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. I guess your tastes do change.

    I love chicken livers, gizzards and hearts all. My niece lived in New York for awhile. She went to a KFC and asked for fried chicken livers and the order taker didn't know what she meant. Called manager up front and was told they didn't sell innards omgoodness..a KFC where they they not only didn't sell innards but employee who had never heard of them..how is that possible?😳 lol

    HELLO GREGG. I HAVE A POWER AIR FRYER OVEN THAT HAS THE SHELVES NOT THE BASKET. YOUR RECIPE WILL WORK FOR THIS. MY QUESTION IS WOULD IT BE A GOOD IDEA TO POKE HOLES IN THE LIVER FOR THIS METHOD ALSO. THIS WOULD BE A MORE HEALTHY WAY OF FIXING THEM FOR ME. PLEASE LET ME HEAR FROM YOU. I HAVE NOT HAD CHICKEN LIVERS SINCE I WAS A KID AND AM NOW 67 YEARS OLD. I USE TO LOVE THESE WITH BISCUITS. THANK YOU

    I'm from Cincinnati. Lee's has the best chicken livers!! I could make a meal out of them with no sides, just a pint of chicken livers. Cracker Barrel has pretty good ones, but not as good.

      Only 1 pint??? lol I love Lee's livers and gizzards, but the closest to me is an hour's drive. That doesn't stop me...
