Mors has forgotten more than many so-called "experts" will ever know - what a wealth of experience! (And the breathing behind the scenes wasn't as bad this time...) Thanks for the excellent vid!

Great vid! Thanks. I recently went duck hunting and for got my mosquito repellent, big mistake I got bit approximately 30 times mostly on the arms. Now I keep the mosquito repellent in my pack at all times.

Great video. This is one area that can drive you nuts with all of the products available. Here he makes good sense. Citronella works great in the coils I didn't know there was an oil need to get some. I did learn some good things. Thanks.

Also, I'd be thrilled to see a video dedicated to the scarf, as others have mentioned below.

That's correct. Health Canada banned the sale of products containing more than 30% Deet in 2002 with even lower percentages recommended for kids.

Wow! 6-12 I have not heard about that for a looooooooooooong time (the '70s) it was issued by the Canadian Military. I don't know why they discountinued it as it was the cats meow of bug repellent in the day.

I loved smoking pipe tobacco to keep the bugs away. At the beginning if each camping trip I would blow smoke down the sleeves of my shirts and jacket. That seemed to work real well. I quit smoking 11 years ago, so I switched to thermacell or 30% deet. I keep sage as well for tossing in the edge of the fire to burn in the coals. I definitely want to try the false tinder fungus.

funny he says oil of citronella is hard to find here in Australia we can buy it just about anywhere I have a 4l (1gallon) bottle in the shed right now. Citronella products are a must here in the land of bugs lol. Great video could watch this man all day.

He's in Canada, specifically central Alberta. Northern Alberta is almost entirely a swamp, and to the east, in Manitoba, the common joke is that their provincial bird is the mosquito because as the temperature drops below ~30º there is a steady hum in air from the sheer number of bugs. Not saying we have drums of citronella, I really don't know but I haven't seen any, just saying we have our fair share of bugs as well. I've been to Australia, between Brisbane to Toowoomba and further to Moree, I'm sure there are areas with worse bug problems (I hear the northern areas like Darwin are fair bit swampy), but in the areas we were at the bugs were about equal in number or less then in Canada (with a much worse bite of course. Seriously WTF, even your ants hurt worse then our wasps)

I prefer to consume garlic which will infuse your sweat and it is a natural repellant. But combine with smoke, it works much better. Permetherin is good for clothes to keep chiggers and ticks away but seems to be heavily restricted in Canada.

My dad used to make his own out of kerosene, deet, and a few other terrible smells. Every summer we got doused when getting firewood in the late 70's.

They don't like surgical spirit or rubbing alcohol on the skin but it wears off especially in hot weather, they prefer people who eat lots of sugar too, so go into the woods with someone with a sweet tooth!

Put deet on your hands and go play with your video camera and see what happens ;o) I use a local product called Seet-adle :D Made from all natural products. Works really good. Doesn't last as long as deet but it's not poison anyway :o)

I like 80% DEET. You only use it when things are desperate. You only use a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny amount. 15hours 1gram 90% effective. 19hours 1gram 80% effective (landing rates).
For me I'd rather a tiny amount of 80% DEET then applying too much 30%. Though I guess more dilude means more even distribution.
A stick with some leaves on it, the wonders of tool use, just made yourself a tail.
