Michel equates "ego" with "Atma". In classical Advaita Vedanta ego is"ahanata=mind identification" and "atma=braman" . So I am confused with the use of the word ego. Michel, please clarify.
i am not sure i heard it right [perhaps it would help summarizing the question/comment when a portable mike is not available] : can there be a dream without a dreamer? i think this is a matter of semantics- can there be awareness without that who is aware?! i'd say yes to both rather. Michael is right- this is an impossible task from a logical point of view but what has logic to do with reality?! i see this in the grey area of the ego that tries to transcend itself; this would be an intermediary step where the ego realizes that dream and the dreamer are one, without separation, the same as in the case of that being aware and awareness. Living life as a dream where "i'" is no less or more real than any other "i" in that dream is a stepping stone in transcending the relative reality. The 'universal' ego that i becomes by this impersonal living is then transcended into the absolute reality of Being without any adjuncts.

what about waking up knowing you've dreamed however when we dream in sleep, we dont know we ve been awake just wondering. Thanks for the videos they are invaluable and I continue to practice "who am I?"
I think when I wake up, I have all five senses working. so, I can see the dream state limited since not as many senses were working when I dreamed. I imagine that when I die, I'll see this waking life I've lived as a dream, being able to see what happened totally. Just as I can do now in the morning with the dreams I've had overnight.

But is there happiness without an experience of happiness? Even the very term, "Self Awareness" indicates something is aware of something, therefore two not one. This meeting took a significant turn when a questioner brought up the term, Ajata. From there, the taste of nihilism became very strong. We want "50-50". We want to enjoy this world from the perspective of knowing it's unreal. To speak honestly, I think that's what brought me to Ramana. I dare to say other seekers are included.

"You cannot see a dream without being a dreamer", what about lucid dreams? You see the dream, but you are aware that you are dreaming and that is not real.
You unraveled a big part of the mystery ! A lucid dream is one where you realise you are in a dream ,yet you can control your environment. You can fly ,breathe underwater and do all within the bounds of your imagination. When you awaken to your true self , you'll realise that this world too is a dream and like in a lucid dream you will be aware of the fact that it is a dream. And just as in a lucid dream where things that you want happen , in this dream too things will happen to your favour and you will remain unattached because you know it is a dream !
Namaskaram. The one who is aware of the dream is the dreamer, and that one is you. However, it is not you as you actually are but only you as ego. When you rise and stand as ego, you dream this or some other dream, and when you remain without rising as you always actually are, you do not dream any dream at all, as you can see from your experience in sleep (dreamless sleep), when you do not rise as ego and therefore do not dream.
