  • We sat down with Dalbello’s Geoff Curtis and Chris McKenna to discuss Dalbello’s 2022-2023 lineup of ski boots; developing both 3-piece ‘Cabrio’ and 2-piece ‘Overlap’ designs; the age-old debate about the pros and cons of both designs; Dalbello’s brand-new Veloce overlap series; the industry finally settling on boot sole norms; the rise of Alpine boots with tech toe fittings; the lightweight Quantum Free and Quantum Evo series and their unique 2-piece bonding construction; working to close the loop on boot manufacturing waste; and more.

One thing to mention with Cabrio vs 2 piece I've noticed is where the pressure hits with higher instep feet. I've noticed pressure with 2 piece boots on my instep where as with a Cabrio I've noticed the pressure on the outside of the foot. Cabrio seems like the correct design for people with instep issues.

That is a very minor fit aspect that does not speak to the much more significant design for function. Same about ease of entry being insignificant to function.

So much discussion about ease of entry and fit but I ski the crypton for its function. This boot has a significant separation between forward and lateral flex that overlap boots do not have. I ski with 100’s of beer league racers who cannot flex there boot and it shows in their rigid technique associated with skill development plateaus.

So, what is the differece between the Krypton AX T.I. and Lupo AX HD. Per the Dalbello website; the price is the same. The Krypton AX T.I. is lighter, a mystery at 1895gm, and has an 80% moldable liner. The Lupo AX HD is heavier, a burlier 1960gm, and has a 100% moldable liner. What makes the Krypton 130 great is a 100% moldable wrap liner and rock solid 2191gm shell. A Krypton AX T.I. at c. 2000gm with a 100% moldable wrap liner, 100mm last, 120 flex, and inserts makes sense, even if its cost more. With the Krypton AX T.I. as is, the Lupo AX looks like a tougher more versital boot with a better liner for the same price.

Great info in this video but Jonathan looks like hes in the witness protection program with a trucker hat and that lighting...i reall wish dalbello would just have a table/list of all their boots and their options somewhere. Its incredibly difficult to piece outy the details from the ad copy . I'm sure retaillers get a list of products in a better form so they can choose what to buy.

Is there much performance difference between the Lupo Pro HD and the Krypton 130? They both have the same bottom shell. The only difference is that the Lupo has a walk mode and a rear tech piece. Don't Cabrio boots get all their flex from the tongue, so they would be the same?

lupo has walk mode, and skis mainly from tongue stiffness. there are inserts you can put into the krypton rear to reduce deformation of lower shell to stiffen up the cuff. lupo skis like 80tongue-20cuff, krypton skis like 60tongue-40-cuff... its very noticeable. the krypton cuff is lower volume than the lupo cuff, pretty substantially. krypton cuff very tight fit on tib/fib, lupo opens up much more relaxed.
