  • In this video I review the Dalbello Panterra 100 flex ski boot. I discuss the price, comfort, flex, walk mode, grip and overall value of the boot. At the end, I talk about my experience and recommendation from my boot fitter. The Dalbello brand is legendary and makes some really good gear. The Panterra brand of boot has the famous cabrio design which is pretty unique and works very well. This review should help you decide if this is the ski boot for you.

    This is such a great review! I just ordered a pair of 2021 Panterra 100's (on clearance for only $299). They haven't arrived yet but I'm really excited for them. Thank you again!

    Great review, this helped me a lot and I picked up the 2023 model 50% off ($275)! At 5' 7" 150 lbs, the 100 flex feels very stiff without any break-in. I was led to the Panterra because it has the adjustable/removable spoiler and I have high volume / athletic calves (15"). I ended up removing the spoiler and it made SUCH a difference over boots I've worn previously. With flat feet I could feel a plethora of room above the arch and needed to buckle that down more than I otherwise would, and I found a very ideal fit. I have a 100mm last and I felt comfortable at the tightest and second tightest toe buckle.
    I agree the hike mode doesn't appear to add practical flex, With the boot off, I can flex it the supposed 30 degrees, but with my foot strapped in, it doesn't feel it goes more than a few degrees extra. After my first day of skiing, and for five hours at that, I am calling this boot a massive success for me.
    I can't even find the feature listed anywhere, but in addition to the volume adjusters (same as in the video), mine came with these white plastic heel inserts that go under the black footbed piece. Seems like it would raise my heel up and also be a solution for a) increasing forward lean and/or b) increasing calf volume by effectively lowering the cuff. I'm happy with how adjustable these boots seem to be for my needs.

    I have this very boot and they are about a 6 for me on comfort, and l always un strap my boots when walking so your ankles can bend. I even un strap in the lift lines and on the lifts and l just strap them back before the run!! I have to give my feet a break!!! I've been skiing for 25 years and yet to have a comfortable boot. I dont believe they exit!!! Enjoyed the video and your honesty !!!!!!!

    Great video. I think that being honest about your ability (I ski mostly Blue) is really hard to find in YT evaluators. Most others pose as Experts and its not helpful to the rest of the world. Kudos to you for being honest & helping us that ski like you. "To be honest the walk mode sucks". Hahaha. Everyone else seems to have a hard time critiquing products. Make more videos! Thanks.

      Thanks Robert me too. I have a very high arches but thin legs and calves. I think the wrap around may suit me better but that is guesswork lol. I intended to race so like you I got custom fitted with 130 flex boots but cannot use them as I find them extremely painful even when taking on and off. I need to visit a good boot fitter.

    Great review. I have the Dalbello Aspect 100s which are the next level down from these. After a couple of errors buying boots too big and too narrow i found Dalbello seem to be one of the few brands that offer a wider forefoot while keeping the volume of the rest of the boot volume low.
    Something that helps with high arches and pain on side of the foot is to replace the footbeds - the flimsy pieces of foam that come with boots are crap. I replaced mine with SuperFeet Red.
    Walk mode is a bit of a gimmick, but to get the benefit you also need to release the upper buckles.

  • @mounthelena1
    @mounthelena1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the review. I bought the 120. Just an FYI, the volume reducer pad is supposed to go inside the liner, under your footbed. This is according to the Dalbello owner's manual. I would think that keeping it outside the liner would result in some slippage between the liner and the boot shell, although maybe it's not that noticeable.

    First of all, awesome video. You helped me purchase a Panterra. Very comfy. I figure out how to use the walk mode. While the boot is on, lean your weight and shin forward. You can then push or pull the latch in and out. If you want more range of motion while walking, release the top strap and latch. Hope this helps.

    Gripwalk is absolutely better for me. There is design that allows your foot to rock forward and hence more natural, and also the rubber is indeed grippier. I've slid in my old boots a few times before without actually falling, but I've never slipped in these.

      Happy to help! Is the pain on the top of your foot from the boot? I find these are one of the best brands to prevent that top of foot crushing. If you take your boot off quickly, and look at your foot, you may be able to see the indent and identify what is causing the issue.

    I have a bunion issue on my left foot that becomes quite painful by the end of the day. I was looking at Salomon or Rossignol boots with a wider forefoot to give me more room up front. Boot fitter suggested these and they were the most comfortable I tried even though the others were 102-104. I’m just a little worried that once I have been on the slopes for a couple of hours, these will become uncomfortable. Any thoughts on how they will feel after a few hours of skiing? Also I am strictly skiing greens now but he said the 100 flex would work better for me as I eventually move up to blues. I have 70 flex in my current boots.

    • @robertesell
      @robertesell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Raymond. Well the flex depends on a few things. Unfortunately, a 100 flex in one brand is going to be different than 100 flex in another brand. Having said that, I think 70 is a lot of flex. I weight about 170 pounds and 100 is as low as I would go. I think for most adults, 100 is a pretty good base. I also found that my foot swells as the day goes on. So while a boot is comfortable in the shop, it can be be torture after a few hours. My guess is you will need to just test and see what happens. Having a good boot fitter will help you a lot however. Keep in mind that you may need to take your boots in a few times as I think they are a bit conservative on how much they alter it at any one time. THey dont want to punch out too much at once and make the boot too sloppy. Let me know how it goes and good luck!

    Nice overview. I just snagged the 2024 Panterra ID 120s to try them out once they arrive. Similar foot profile... wide ass monkey feet and high arches😮. Hoping for the $295 deal I found I get a good fit, but will likely need to get them ground out to about a 104 last if they work.
    How did you size yours? I am a 10 street shoe in most cases, and opted for the 27.5s sight unseen. In Salomons I roll a 26.5, but it looks like Dalbello runs a bit smaller.

    In order for your walk mode to work properly, you have to undo your buckles and loosen your power strap.....just like any other boot with walk mode.

    How is true to size is it? My current boot is 27.5cm and hurts in the toe area (sides). Should I stick with that size in this boot? 28.5 seems like a big jump

      @whoisthe1412 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robertesell In an essence, GW is a combination of curvature in the front and back soles along with material design. The ultimate goal is to help you mimic a natural walk compared to WTR or Alpine soles thanks to the curvature. The company that founded GW technology, which is Marker TM also pushed for GW soles to be grippier with the combination of the soles material and design. Depends on the company but Rossignol have some of their GW soles made out of Rubber from Michellin.
