Thanks, good, honest, genuine advice. I've taken the Minnesota Master exam twice, failed twice, fairly close too. Why'd I fail? 2 reasons, slow with codebook, slow with calc's, which equals time. My career is shipping, chief engineer, so I've never had to use the NEC (Art. 90) & I suck at math. But I'm studying all the time & I'll get it. Going through the test quickly is good advice. That's how I've passed all my Coast Guard exams. For this test, people told me don't skip a question, answer each question in order. That's how I took my first test and it was a mistake. 1st pass, 80 questions, 30-60 seconds per question = 40 mins to 1hr, 20min of test time is gone. Practice repetitively and often.
Thanks for watching my dude. Not trying to be the greatest at anything, just trying to help people find their way through the forest while I’m in it as well. ✌️

Hey thanks a lot for the advice man! I passed my exam today. I did exactly what you said. I went through it 4 times. Round 1 was answer questions that I know for sure. This definally brought my confidence up. Second Round I did all math questions. Third Round I did all the code questions. Fourth round I took educated guesses on the " the lost in the sauce" questions.

If you could make a video on just easy navigation of the code book that would be amazingly helpful. Located in California. Thanks, Dan.

Thank thank you for all the videos that you make for a sec find them very helpful. I am 55 years old this year I had some bad luck I've been an electrician for over 23 helper than lead man. This year I had some bad luck I got hurt in a job injury I tore both shoulders and a bicep I already had problems with my lower back I had the first of three surgeries I'm not sure they'll be a job waiting for me when I go back I have friends daughter inspectors and master electricians they think that I'm better suited to try and get my Master's and apply as an inspector it is a livestream for me to become a master electrician I was thinking about doing the Mike Holt course and taking their one week study program. I'd be extremely grateful if you could do a video going over the chapters like you said and things that I would need to brush up on basically any help you could give me I would greatly appreciate as I said I don't think I'll be able to go back to my old job and I'm too young to go on social security so I'm hoping that I can pass a master's and become inspector and it is a livestream to be a master electrician thank you for your time
Can you show some examples of some of those equations, I use the Canadian code, but I'm sure the NEC calculations can help. Basically the "service" and branch circuits are calculated differently, so for example in one instance if I'm correct, a range is counted as 6kW and in the branch circuits it says count it as 8kW. And there's many other strange stipulations that our instructor didn't really explain well.
Great advice Dustin! I'm a 3rd year apprentice in Austin Tx getting ready to test next year and I'll be using all this advice. Looking forward to more videos covering license testing and the NEC. Appreciate you bro!
Can you recommend any study guides? I've seen several online for sale that include practice tests. Are there any that you have personally had good experiences with?
Thanx so much bro because I am actually applying at an Elections Shop as a laborer too start and seeing if I could definitely do this type of trade here in Edmonton Alberta Canada bro because if it all Works out then I will definitely apply for my Canadian Aperintship as an Electrician because what you are doing for myself here is perpaird myself very early on long before I even get into this training period because here in Canada it would probably be quite different then the US so ya brother thanx man for getting myself perpaird already man so that I will definitely ace everything very quickly because I would absolutely know most of the answers already because I watched your video bro
Great videos, question what's consider " offical NEC tabs" would the tabs purchased Amazon work or does have to a label from NFPA. Are they strict on this at the TDLR?
Are you familiar with the alliance academy electricians test. Is there any recommendations towards what to study in order to past the test the first time Thanks!
The Masters is half open book. Half closed. So you better know your stuff...I would also make sure you understand. The loose leaf code book is your friend. As you can add pages in the binder. As long as it has a page number. You can use pages from the Uglys Reference book. Make copies from the NFPA70E book. I would add. Don't think passing the test is over. Most every company I know. Will give you some test at the interview. Just to make sure you can do the job...
That’s exactly what happed to me,i tried to answer all them and run out time most of the time, but I think the ones answered i got them right I been close but always run out time thank you good tip I’m try that on my next time
Thanks alot man! How about the test that you pass before getting an apprenticeship, how can we prepare for that, and do we need alot of maths, last time I did any maths was 10 years ago (when I got my highschool diploma) thanks alot.
Hi Dustin my name is Angel I’m having my California journeyman test in 2 days I feel ready for it however I’m still having trouble with voltage drops thanks
Journey test in Rhode Island is 90 minutes timed, 50 questions and no book. You get to bring in a calculator and pencils. That’s it. I appreciate the sentiment behind this video but it in no way relates to my experience taking the test here in the state that I work in. In Massachusetts, the test is open book. Here, it isn’t.
Hey Dustin i know you're constantly staying busy but I was thinking about a video on working on electricity while its hot. My trade school acts as if were always going to be working on de energized wires but im already finding myself working with the breaker on because it can be a hassle.
People talk of old school guys working with hot wires, even wiring panels hot. Insulated gloves, thick rubber mats, being VERY careful, etc. I honestly don't think theres any excuse today to work with hot wires. A hassle is NOT worth your life. 120v can kill, and not always right away. I definitely think it's important to know how to do it properly but I hope he will emphasize how unnecessarily dangerous working with live power is and why you should really never do it, especially not for convenience sake, If he does make such video. Be safe, homie!
Well you may not wanna try a video on working while hot as electrician we should always work as if the power is live but tge thing is is that home owners or jack leg electrician makes mistakes I mean we do but theres a thin line
So Is it possible to bring in my 2014 code book now here in California ? Or do I have to take the 2017 test? Time to put in more work.
So I’m a high school graduate; just graduated this week. I’m looking on getting into the electrician career. I know very little about it and was wondering if I need a A.S degree to become a apprentice for a journeyman or I can just become a apprentice if they accept me or how does this work.
I’ve been watching your channel for a bit. Looking at becoming an electrician. Where are you located in Texas? I ask because I live in Texas and would like to apprentice with a company that has someone that is able to explain it well and seems willing to work with someone that is high functioning autistic

The test is very difficult in Texas and on my journeyman test I was given a blueprint that looked like it went through a copier about 100 times and I had to use it for my test lol was very pissed about that but all turned out well
Derek were in Tx?
I'm a apprentice electrician trying to take my west Virginia test what kinda advice would you give me on this. I've been doing this trade for 7 going on 8 months and I'm trying to gain all the knowledge I can.
Thanks for the tips man watched ur video earlier in the week and took my test today for the first time and Passed with a 83
I’ve always struggled with math I just graduated this year and I take my test in February I’m really nervous about it because I don’t wanna fail I will study as best as I can but it’s eating me alive because I just want everything to work out for me.. please tell me there’s somebody who can relate to me and maybe have some advice to give 🙏🏽
Aaayyy same here on the February test. I’ve heard that the JATC book that comes with their math cert is useful
🙏👍
Jerrell Kirk can I hug you
How'd you do?
@@jersmith1486 not so well but aye it just wasn’t for me doesn’t mean I can’t keep trying in another field
These are some awesome tips. Going to really study the code book. Wanna start a legacy of electricians.
What is the fastest and most effective way to search through the codebook?
I've been trying to pass the journeyman test in Utah for over a year now. I'm losing confidence in myself to be able to do this as a career. The Utah test is the hardest test in the nation I'm sure
I passed all my tests and I am officially a fully qualified electrician! Yayyy after 2 years of studying hard
Congrats
Congratulations! Where at?!
What about the live examination after the test were you work in a panel and they grade you
Thank-you!!! I have my OR Journeyman's, and now need to study to take the WA (yup no exceptions). You are my starting point! Great advice! Noble of you to put up, btw!
Great info on the exam. Would love a run-through tutorial on UGLY'S Qs.
78" veiny black COX glistening in the MOONLIGHT after exiting the BUTTTWHOLE of an old man who was the unwilling PARTICIPANT of some BUTTTWHOLE magic. Volleyball sized BALLZSAX with a 2" SHAFT, trying to enter the scene. "You're too short!" The 78" KOK shrugged.
A Puerto Rican whipped out his WEENER on the school bus. 65" Diameter COK only 1" long. Bloody WEENER exits the BUTTTWHOLE of a Walmart employee's BUTTTWHOLE. BUTTTWHOLE DESTROYED. DEMOLISHED BUTTTWHOLE. BUTTTWHOLE WRECKED. Pieces of the bloody BUTTTWHOLE remains vacuumed up by a Honduran maid.
Can you link that video you said you were making about navigating through the NEC. I have my 8k hours to take the PSI Texas journeyman’s, and that’s what I’m the most worried about and intimidated by.
You have become one of my spirit animals Boss lol. I have been in for close to 14, from low to high volt shit and I just woke up to the fact ai need me's a license. So I said fuck it. Grabbed the '17 and a new Ugly and went to go for it..... Didn't think about how to actually go about the studying part so I said, I'm gonna find the least Jackass looking person on TH-cam and see whats up.... Thank you for looking like the least Jackass looking person on here Boss. Great info, excellent and very down to earth commentary, and a dying breed of work ethic.... I see it daily lol. Be safe, and keep it coming my friend, you got a new subscriber here
Great advice I’m about to be 22 and I’ll be eligible for the journey in a few more months so I’m preparing
I'd be extremely grateful if you could do a video going over the chapters like you said and things that I would need to brush up on basically any help you could give me I would greatly appreciate as I said I don't think I'll be able to go back to my old job and I'm too young to go on social security so I'm hoping that I can pass a master's and become inspector and it is a livestream to be a master electrician thank you for your time
Super informative man. Awesome job! Please keep them coming!
Taking my test tomorrow & this video boosted my confidence, inspiring video ! Will use every second of this video tomorrow 💯💯
@carlos How did the exam go?
Jeffrey Longoria failed it with 8 points
finding answers quickly is key practice with the code book know ohms law.
Is the test open book in California?
Can you show some examples of some of those equations, I use the Canadian code, but I'm sure the NEC calculations can help. Basically the "service" and branch circuits are calculated differently, so for example in one instance if I'm correct, a range is counted as 6kW and in the branch circuits it says count it as 8kW. And there's many other strange stipulations that our instructor didn't really explain well.
You're the best man, Saluts.
Nice, thanks for the vid. Im writing my red seal journeyman test tomorrow morning !
Ontario.
I think i did well, but time will tell.
All I have to say is use your time wisely!
Was it open book?' And are you from California
Great advice Dustin! I'm a 3rd year apprentice in Austin Tx getting ready to test next year and I'll be using all this advice. Looking forward to more videos covering license testing and the NEC. Appreciate you bro!
Good luck my dude! I’ll definitely get into more specifics later. I have a test prep book coming out soon too on Electrician U
Last time I took the journeyman test was 2007. Now I'm trying in a different state and j feel so lost.
Thank you. You give some of the best info.
Great videos, question what's consider " offical NEC tabs" would the tabs purchased Amazon work or does have to a label from NFPA. Are they strict on this at the TDLR?
What about a closed book test?
Are you familiar with the alliance academy electricians test. Is there any recommendations towards what to study in order to past the test the first time
Thanks!
Love it man !! 💪🏽 i thank you from MA .
That’s exactly what happed to me,i tried to answer all them and run out time most of the time, but I think the ones answered i got them right I been close but always run out time thank you good tip I’m try that on my next time
Check out the tab and highlighted code book from dandudley
Thanks alot man! How about the test that you pass before getting an apprenticeship, how can we prepare for that, and do we need alot of maths, last time I did any maths was 10 years ago (when I got my highschool diploma) thanks alot.
I guess I’ll have to keep trying
Hi Dustin my name is Angel I’m having my California journeyman test in 2 days I feel ready for it however I’m still having trouble with voltage drops thanks
The way ive learned is 2×K×I×L ÷ CMIL Or VD=I×R
MikeSoChi thanks I’m headed to test site now
Journey test in Rhode Island is 90 minutes timed, 50 questions and no book. You get to bring in a calculator and pencils. That’s it. I appreciate the sentiment behind this video but it in no way relates to my experience taking the test here in the state that I work in. In Massachusetts, the test is open book. Here, it isn’t.
that's rediculous they should adopt a federal certification so you can all take the same test.
What are the techniques in marking out from the ceiling
This is so helpful! You need to teach classes
When are you posting the video about understanding the code book ?!?!
Watch Mike Holt Videos. If you can't pass the test after taking his course. Then something is wrong..
Thx man..wish you success in the field...⚡⚡👍
Hey buddy I live in San Angelo Texas gonna go for my test do you have any tips on the calculations part
Is the "Ugly's residential wiring book" good to have and study before the Electrical Exam?
Yes to learn the basic knowledge of residential wiring but when comes to that extra stuff use your nec
wish i could hire you to help my brother pass this test, he needs an honest, on his side mentor
how do you feel about states that have closed book test?
I have this practice test booklet and with the advice you gave even though I didn't pass it really did speed up my time in finishing all the questions. Thanks for the great advice. Time to put in more work.
Sound advice man great help
Ur the man bro. Thank you. 💯
I’m taking my masters this coming Saturday I will let you know how it went be in Texas
How did it go?
So I’m a high school graduate; just graduated this week. I’m looking on getting into the electrician career. I know very little about it and was wondering if I need a A.S degree to become a apprentice for a journeyman or I can just become a apprentice if they accept me or how does this work.
I was ready to walk out after the third question...realized I payed for for it..relaxed ...and pass the masters the first time...just relax!!!
can a person from a different country sit the usa license
If I take my residential wire mans license can I work in commercial jobs if my boss gets the job
I’ve been watching your channel for a bit. Looking at becoming an electrician. Where are you located in Texas? I ask because I live in Texas and would like to apprentice with a company that has someone that is able to explain it well and seems willing to work with someone that is high functioning autistic
Hey thanks for this video, a good help to have a broader vision of what has to be done to reach our goal. I would like to ask you what certificate or what course I should take to become an electrician and be able to obtain this license and obviously pass the exam, I would like to do residential, commercial and industrial. Located in Chicago.
im studying out of the 2017 book,im studying for the 2014 test on jade learning center test prep. do you think that will make a difference in finding answrers
Nice video man! I’m going to start studying for my test in Texas. Do you have any tips how I should study?
Tests.com they use questions very similar in the Journeyman test. I used it to get good at finding the answers in the NEC. It’s about $60 but totally worth it. Passed my test first try.
