When I was 13, on my way to the hospital where my grandma was shifting between life and death for years, without legs, I remember listening to these songs. She passed away when I was 15, and I visited her every day for years. It was particularly hard, because she raised me up. Listening to these tunes...makes me feel like she is still with me.

10 years ago when I first discovered youTube one of the first videos I happened upon was a DBZ AMV with Future Trunks using this song. In my house, nobody listened to music like this; my parents listened to classic rock, my one brother was a jazz fan, and my other brother was a fan of lighter alt-rock. Not that their music sucked or anything, but I had never heard anything like this before; I thought it was full-on heavy metal at first. Anyway, that video and this song both made me curious enough to look into this band, making them pretty much the first band I had legitimately gotten into on my own.
RIP, Chester. We will remember you for the real music that you and the band helped create to help a lot of young teens find solace when they were troubled. No matter how many whiny 14 year-olds would quote lyrics like this on social media and make you guys look bad, that doesn't detract from how the real fans will view you. It is because of this band I got into other bands like Starset, Breaking Benjamin, Skillet, Evanescence, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.

I like how A Place For My Head just transitioned to Forgotten in Spotify version got me hyped up learning this riff on guitar. But I love how the drums are uplifting for some reason in verses. Including the drums at the chorus was upbeat.

That precognition vocal effect they use on this song (and a few others on Hybrid Theory) is a short-bounce echo reversed to the start point and soaked with reverb, then flipped back again immediately after the echoed syllable. It’s one of my favorite vocal effects and you don’t need anything fancy to pull it off, just patience while editing the wave file in your digital audio workstation.
