The best song from Hybrid Theory in my opinion! They really need to add this to the setlist of live shows again... By Myself and Forgotten are two Forgotten songs.
or they can play only Meteora an Hybrid Theory albums on their concerts, that's will be much better. By the way, they already did it one time recently)
Евгений Евтушенко Yeah I know they done Download 2014 with Hybrid Theory, but I mean just to their normal setlist they should add this song. It makes the crowd go fucking crazy
so many people here say 'ahh childhood' but even though i loved their music when i was a kid, its never had more meaning in my life than right now. this song, is exactly whats been going on in my head, and its terrifying
The same with me. I used to listen to it when i was 7, 8 years old. I didnt even know what the lyrics meant. Portuguese mother tongue. Now I know English and I feel this pain. Couldn't relate more.
Same here His songs just nor give me the feelings wuen listening to it. I came to metal through Linkin Park too. Hang in there dude. Another year another day. Let's, atleast, survive till every oppurtunity has been squeezed to it's last.
This music had all the elements that made so many bands popular at the time of its release. The genius was how these elements came out in Linkin Park's sound. You can hear grunge a.k.a. Nirvana, rap a.k.a. Rage Against the Machine, metal a.k.a. the genre in general, and pop (evidenced by the melodies). In their hands, it all came out as their individual sound. For me, the words, Linkin Park, conjured thoughts of quality and thoughts of a fresh sound. Though there were similarities with other artists of the day (Limp Biscuit, Third Eye Blind, etc.), time has shown that Linkin Park had the writing skills and talents to outlast their contemporaries.
Depression mixed with an anxious mind sucks. I over think situations and take things out of context and take things personally. It freakin sucks... Idk how to fix it or what to do to make it stop and take control of my mind again.
You remind me a lot of me. The best thing that I ever did to help myself was going to therapy and joining a support group for people like myself. Believe me, it does a world of good for your soul.
@@ilikeyacutg854 It wasn't that nobody cared, they heard just never truly listened. His death doesn't give the song anymore meaning then it already had. Hindsight is just 20/20.
@@ilikeyacutg854 This song came out on an album that preceded his death by almost 17 years. It's not so much a cry for help as it is just what he knew best. "Write what you know" as they say.
I could spit on you all hypocrites constantly talking about chesters death. Ffs, call me a cynical fucking asshole but I'm so tired of this circle jerk. We all miss chester. I'm only 24 because he AND the rest of linkin park made me survive this long. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU COMMENT WHORING FUCKS are shitting on his legacy. Stop talking about his fucking death ffs. I'm so furious about this. Does nobody feel shame anymore. This isn't showing compassion to him. This isn't respect for him. If you guys were truly honoring chester, you all would talk, not about his defeat but about his heroism. If you all would really honor chester, you all would be talking about his music. Chester died protecting us all. Why is no one talking about how he sealed so many demon kings. Why is nobody talking about this heroes legacy
I'm no expert on this but one of that many things Chester and Kurt have in common is their ability to scream while still sounding quite melodic which is very satisfying to my ears .
The only things Chester and Kurt had in common is that they were both rock singers and both died by suicide. Their singing styles, musical style sand influences, personalities, looks and pretty much everything else were completely different. I don't mean no disrespect to either, but they weren't similar at all and I feel like the only reason they are compared is because of their deaths- which sucks, because they deserve to be remembered by their lives and legacies, not just their demise.
I grew up on your songs. They always inspired me, at the most difficult moments of my life, when I myself wanted to surrender and commit suicide. You saved me, I will remember you.

As a young adult I loved this song, having not heard this song in over a decade it randomly popped into my head and I now see I never realized the utter desperation this song cries out for. The feelings this song portrays are things I understand far too well now and damn reading the lyrics hit me like a truck. Very real and very sad song. Undoubtedly a masterpiece.
this song is fantastic . it really shows the anger of one's inability to rely on themselves; it voices what i feel very well. the instrumentation shows how burning the frustration can be, how chaotic it can become. you know you can't rely on yourself but still question it and it only leads to anger and frustration and god does this song convey it well. the end provides an unsatisfactory yet inevitable resolution to the issues pondered within the song; they stop abruptly almost as if to signify one's wish to cease all thought. This song is truly a masterpiece. I am extremely sad to know that the man that wrote it is no longer living. RIP Chester
When I was young I listened to Linkin Park and I didn’t even guess what about their songs, because it’s not my language. But when I can understand it, it’s so strangely related to emotions what I feel in my childhood (it was not happy at all). Just imagine some Russian kid who feels all of this so deep and came back to understand it was be exactly about him all the time.
Hearing these lyrics after his death makes me think "no wonder". I miss him every day, hearing the pain and anger in his voice leaves me in tears. Rest In Peace, Chester.
I just broke down and fell crying because I'm going through the shittiest moment in my life. I never thought I could connect with a song at this level.
Remember listening to this on my CD Walkman in 2001, now listening to this on my smartphone. How time changes, though this and Linkin Park stayed timeless. RIP Chester, thanks for the memories.
I really miss the early 2000's. So much nostalgia runs through my mind when I listen to this stuff. I just don't know where 20 odd years have gone, I really want to go back to the best years of my life as a teenager.
Their best song, honestly. Beautiful inatrumentation, the rap is awesome, and chester with his fantastic voice. I really like the background sounds when chester screams"I cant hold on".
“I find myself getting into these patterns of behavior or thought - especially when I’m stuck up here [in my head]; I like to say that ‘this is like a bad neighborhood, and I should not go walking alone.'”

I always considered myself a "Hard old style metal lover", starting in my childhood with bands as Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, Maiden and the rest. When in the last years of the 90s appears the nu-metal my first reaction was very skeptical, I accepted bands as Papa Roach or System of a Down, but hated anothers... Then, Linkin Park appeared: I remember me listening and liking some songs but not acepting many others, and always respecting Chester´s voice. Now I cannot stop listening their songs, especially this album, all tracks are absolutely perfection... Now I´m in love with LP, I really miss so much Chester voice.
@@jeremyfrost2636 I listen to System of a Down, Slipknot, Led Zeppelin, KoRn, but this is the real first album that introduced me to rock music. It was perfect when I was a teenager, now I'm 36 and obviously it sounds different for me, but I'll never forget what this album means to me.

Because I can't hold on when I'm stretched so thin
I make the right moves but I'm lost within
I put on my daily facade but then
I just end up getting hurt again
By myself (myself)
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can't rely on myself (myself)
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can't rely on myself
I can't hold on
To what I want when I'm stretched so thin
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
To end things watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in
If I turn my back I'm defenseless
And to go blindly seems senseless
If I hide my pride and let it all go on
Then they'll take from me 'till everything is gone
If I let them go I'll be outdone
But if I try to catch them I'll be outrun
If I'm killed by the questions like a cancer
Then I'll be buried in the silence of the answer
By myself (myself)
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can't rely on myself (myself)
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can't rely on myself
I can't hold on
To what I want when I'm stretched so thin
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
To end things watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in
How do you think
I've lost so much
I'm so afraid
I'm out of touch
How do you expect
I will know what to do
When all I know
Is what you tell me to
Don't you
I can't tell you how to make it
No matter what I do
How hard I
I can't seem to convince myself
I'm stuck on the outside
Don't you
I can't tell you how to make it
No matter what I do
How hard I
I can't seem to convince myself
I'm stuck on the outside
I can't hold on
(To what I want when I'm stretched so thin)
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
(To anything watching everything spin)
With thoughts of failure sinking in
I can't hold on
(To what I want when I'm stretched so thin)
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
(To anything watching everything spin)
Without some failure sinking

His songs just nor give me the feelings wuen listening to it.

"I can't hold on" those lyrics are so fitting after Chester's death it's scary.
Literally every song he wrote is more impactful. He let us know, just nobody cared

As a young adult I loved this song, having not heard this song in over a decade it randomly popped into my head and I now see I never realized the utter desperation this song cries out for. The feelings this song portrays are things I understand far too well now and damn reading the lyrics hit me like a truck. Very real and very sad song. Undoubtedly a masterpiece.
this song is fantastic
. it really shows the anger of one's inability to rely on themselves; it voices what i feel very well. the instrumentation shows how burning the frustration can be, how chaotic it can become. you know you can't rely on yourself but still question it and it only leads to anger and frustration and god does this song convey it well. the end provides an unsatisfactory yet inevitable resolution to the issues pondered within the song; they stop abruptly almost as if to signify one's wish to cease all thought. This song is truly a masterpiece. I am extremely sad to know that the man that wrote it is no longer living. RIP Chester
Didn't Mike Shinoda write this song though? Honestly, I always thought it was written from his experience being mistreated by their label.
Mike is such an introspective rhyme spitter
