If you are a Movie Club member you saw the watch along last week and already know how much this movie has meant to me. This truly was not the film I was expecting, it turned out to be even better than any trailer or any description could've told me. - Waleska.
We are deeply grateful to be able to review these type of movies. A.R. Rahman did such a peculiar and fantastic music score for this movie. The direction, writing and script of this movie was such a breath of fresh air with such a marvellous message.
Stand-out performance from Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and the cab driver!!.

Absolutely. I watched this movie with my dad in the theater and we both looked at each other at the end and were like…..that was weird. 😂 And I saw it again on Netflix a year later and fell in love. Now I’ve seen it over 25 times and never get bored. ❤️
the song "agar tum saath ho" is a conversation between heart and mind/brain... when you listen to the lyrics carefully you'll see how geniusly this song has been written. even their clothing is on point, deepoka is wearing red, which represents heart and Ranbir is wearing beige, which is representing brain 💗
To be honest, every song has a subtextual meaning in this movie. Every song is genius. We never talk about heer toh badi sad or tu koi aur hai or chali kahani. Take those songs and try to interpret them in context of the scenes and you'll know what I'm talking about. This movie is way ahead of the masses, no wonder people couldn't take it
It's an absolute gem that captures the essence of self-discovery and life's journey beautifully. Watching it again reminded me of its timeless brilliance.

The movie is literally on indian classical music. It's a masterpiece. Hope the people here recommend it and I am not the only one.

I was in university 3rd year studying engineering--- went to watch this movie with boys gang - late night show :D
Couldn't even finish half of the movie - as it was such a boring, unrelatable, non-linear and confusing.. we chose to do something fun instead outside :P
Cut to 3-4 years later I, working in an MNC, stumbled upon this movie once again on OTT - this time I gave it a go with commitment. And this time - The movie was hitting home right from the go. Post half-time - the movie was giving me goosebumps pinching so so much in my heart - as it was something I am really going through at that moment. That life portrayal was so synonymous so relatable... I was just left in awe after finishing it
Watch HIGHWAY starring Alia Bhatt, it personally my favourite movie of this director ❤😍

Imtiaz Ali said the café scene and the subtleties of the scene were improvised. They had some direction, but the entire head-on-the-table moment, etc., was all the actors' expression of their characters' emotions.

actually no, a movie having music in it and a movie where music is so thoughtfully put in is not the same, movies where the music becomes its own entity are not as common.
Please don't demean this movie by dismissing it as a musical. This one is way, way beyond. The music is just an integral part of it. That doesn't make it a musical.

Watched this movie in an empty theatre and loved it absolutely. This is still my top rom-com from Bollywood.

U should watch "Ae dil hai Mushkil " that movie has some great songs and great acting.
Haider - Classic with extraordinary music( even better than Tamasha). Songs like Bismil and Aao na gives goosebumps and Bismil song in that movie even won a national award for the best music in 2014.

It's funny, Ved during Corsica has already become a corporate robot but on that trip to Corsica with he meets Tara and he decides to act with her, he gives her a premise of them not revealing anything so they can act different, what he doesn't realize is that he gave himself that premise and that he wasn't acting, he actually stopped acting and allowed himself to be his real self which was actually acting (the job) on that trip and this is something Tara realizes after seeing how he's acting in real life years later, she tells him about real self which he rejects but eventually realizes that it's true.
The post credit scene which I used to think was random speaks more on that "Teja's gold is with you", in this case Teja's gold being key to his heart, not in romantic way but him as a person in general, she had that key.

Main reason this movie didn’t work in India,because 90% of Indians are middle class and they have to do struggle for daily survival.and they can’t left everything for their passion.
Movie is showing of 10% rich boys and girls mindset as they not able to follow their passion.

You guys should really check out Qala. An absolute musical gem and like Tamasha, it's got its own cult following but deeply underrated in terms of its reception. Although its got a very darker, sadder, gothic vibe
Also one point that people also miss - when Ranbir is talking to himself in the mirror in later half of the movie - that's such an iconic callback to Taxi Driver scene. The facial expressions, the hairstyle- the emotion dialog delivery ;)

The movie is literally an open dialogue on male mental health. It covers so many elements which the audience wasn’t ready for to grasp back then at the when it was released. Imtiaz Ali’s movies are always amazing !
I can feel this movie in so much sense like its too real bruh . Like all of us create all this characters in life and everyone views a different part of us .and some times not everything is fun and then we just get depressed randomly 😂😭. The way he broke theough the mold of his corporate character😢😅😊
Tamasha is one of my all time favorites. Can't rave about it enough! It's a work of absolute genius, if you connect to it. Or then there are the people who just can't figure out what it's about because it's so beyond their understanding and experience, and dismiss it as nonsense. For me, it's movie-heaven! The theme, the direction, the acting, the editing and, of course, the music - out of this world! Glad you're enjoying it so much.
When the song agar tum sath ho was shot, ranbir and deepika had actually gone through their breakup, so the emotions are actually quite genuine.
