After watching this video I went away and bought a pair of Emerald Struts for my 120d and they're amazing. My Mrs uses the car as a mobile care worker and being able to pop open the boot from the key instead of fumbling with hands full of PPE has made life so much easier.
Can u tell me if the boot closes normally with the new struts or does it need a bit more force to close. Atm my stock 118i boot can be dropped pretty low just because of how heavy it is
@@jamiesumner8311 in all honesty, for me yes it was worth it. Being able to open the boot from the key as you approach the car, or are sat inside it just makes life so much easier. When the wife used the car for work she could open the boot to get her PPE even if she was carrying something. Any time we did shopping we could pop the boot as we approached and then simply put the bags in without having to put things down then pick them up again. Now its become a bit of a project car and we have a custom audio setup in the boot with amplifiers, subwoofers, additional speakers and lighting. Having the boot open to reveal the set up instead of having to manually release and lift the door just looks so much better. Its not just aesthetically pleasing, its practical as well.
Hey I know u made this video 4 years ago man but I just wanted to say thank you, I was able to order my struts with the discount applied which made a good difference since they have to ship it in Italy. Again, massive thank you❤
I’m currently in the process of buying a 1 series 118d m sport. Thanks to these awesome videos I now know what mods that need to be done. Cheers Brett !!
Your videos are really good. Definitely do buy the BMW under-door lights, they look awesome in the dark. I have them on my 2008 E90 330i SE. Only cost around £10.
Brett Barnes I think there’s a little misunderstanding, what I mean are door lights underneath the car doors (the ones that come on automatically after dark), if you do a search of ‘BMW door illuminator lights’ they should come up. All the best!
I just installed these Emerald Struts and it's pretty nice. Don't like the gap it makes tho... they are pushing my boot away on the roof causing an ugly looking gap between boot/spoiler and roof
Hi Brett Bit behind I know but have just caught this video and wondered a year on if the rear struts were performing as well as you’d like. Would love to get some but thought I’d check in with you first. Thanks.
I fitted mine without taking the glass out both on my MK7 Golf R and My F21 120d, all I used was 2 flat head screwdrivers to pop open the clips. You was going about it the entirely wrong way, should have made the gap bigger by operating the mirror to look all the way down and then just pop open the clips.
Yeah mate I did put the mirror completely down so the gap was big. I also have to take the glass off to access the screws behind. I have the middle variant in between a change of mirrors so yours is probably different
Was wondering where I’d seen this motor before.. only to find this morning I drove right past it on the way to work! Looks amazing in real life mate, looking forward to seeing what you do with it next!
Considered upgrading rear indicators, reverse light and break lights to LEDs? I did them on my 1 series and it makes the car look so much better in the dark
Some luxmats ! Check them out if you haven’t already . You can custom design your own mats on line and they are car specific and cover 95% of the carpet. You can also choose your own logo. Mine were £260 but with carbon fibre they are £320. Diamond floor mats are the cheaper alternative that are £160 but are limited as far as design is concerned . Reach out to luxmats uk they may hook you up .
You can modify your existing struts for less than £10 to do exactly the same thing mate. Search it on TH-cam. You just buy the springs and some sink washers to stop them moving on the struts and its a 5 minute job

@@BrettBarnesYT Wow that's awesome! Huge thank you for being this quick! 😁✌🏽 Ordering it as soon as it's available on the site with your code! Take care!
Hey Brett, quick question. When using those Aftermarket Pedals, u lose a bit of way in the gas pedal. This does not happen with the Originalparts because they use screws and not this kind of lip on the pedal to hook on. I wonder if i should get the Original ones or the aftermarket ones. Did u notice any difference when pushing full throttle with the pedal on ?
Just last week got my 2015 bmw 120d M sport, about to turn 19 so the insurance isn't too kind. But love these videos, plan on doing a few things to it as well myself, could you link the site you got those black vinyl logo covers? As mine is in the same Alpinweiss colourway with the black leather interior. And feel like the black logos would be a good addition, cheers mate!
