WONDERFUL ! You've got a lot to be proud of, Matt. You are giving us something we can really enjoy, and there's not too much of that these days. It's easy to see that all your hard work and dedication has paid off. Thanks for sharing with us. P.S. I vote FOR the suit.
Gretch Anniversary I bet. I have the Country Gentleman in this color, same half moon position markers. records well in the studio. I use my Carvin when I want to kick some butt. Thanx for the post
This could be a modern replica, but it's a 6120, from when there was initially just the one Chet Atkins model. Gretsch went from this, along with the full-body, single-cutaway Country Gentleman, to the three slimline models in the 60's, which were the base-model single-cut Tennessean, the double-cut Nashville, and the (dark walnut) Country Gentleman. The Anniversary's were in brown sunburst, two-tone green, and light amber, mostly. The literature that came with my '67 Nashville described the color as fire engine red, and the color of Matt's guitar here would be that exact color, even though it's faded to an orange shade. The orange ones fade to an even brighter shade. I'm not any kind of an expert on Gretsch guitars, but I'm trying to gradually separate fact from fiction. There are a lot of stories out there about Gretsches.
Very good. I own a G6122-59 Nashville Classic 2003 model with a Filtertron and a Supertron pickup. This is more or less identical to the original Country Gentleman Chet prefered, constructed by Paul Yandell, Chet's mate and co-guitarist. In 2011 it got back the name Country Gentleman. Marvelous instrument.
You must feel for Chet the way I do...Oddly my Dad died the same week Chet did...making Chet closer to my heart as I felt for my Father. I still have and learned on my Dad's first guitar. shaped to play Hawaiian. as a slide...he played a little but didn't like it....ended up playing basketball at BUTLER. at HINKLE Field house. His records are there in Poster form...in the archives area
You really nailed this song, Matt. I've never heard it played like this. Chet would be thrilled, I'm sure. I think the only reason four people didn't like it was because they want to see if there's a "G" branded on the top, under your right forearm. Is there?
Matt, I can't stop watching. Just great. I left you an email. I know this is 99% in the hands, but just for reference, which pickups are in your 6120? You have NAILED the tone.
Hey Matt! Awesome videos! I've been binge watching a bunch of your videos after getting into Chet Atkins recently. I was wondering if you can help me out with a couple song suggestions of songs to learn. I've already finished learning a couple songs. I've got 'Windy and Warm', 'Freight Train', and 'Trambone'. I'm also in the middle of learning ' Mister Sandman' although that will take a while to fully learn. I was wondering if there were any other fairly simple arrangements or compositions by Chet I could learn?
Hi Kathleen, thanks for the kind comment! I would say, Wheels, Copper Kettle, Baby's Coming Home are pretty straightforward, Avalon isn't too difficult. Good luck, cheers Matt
+Matt Cowe Thanks for the quick reply! Will check those songs out. Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'll be looking forward to more of your Chet covers soon :)
Never though I'd ever say this, I have to. I think....and this will be tough....that Matt might be ....smoother ,,,,,than Chet....ok I said it...God bless Chet ..

I don't know why but that curtain in the background makes me think that Bettie Page is going to pop put and start dancing at any time.

excellent.
Nice. What kind of strings do you recommend for playing this style?
I use D'Addarrio EXL115 nickel with a wound third, but the plains third sets are good too.
