I own a 2003 model G-6122 Nashville Classic myself, the predessor to the present day Country Gentleman. They are identical exept for the name. Wonderful instruments.
Really sounds good Matt, I am in the process of buying one of those guitars and would like to know if you would share the tabs for that song of Chet's, and does that guitar have Chet's name on the tag of the headstock. Thank You.
That my friend is fabulous. One of my favorites. What model guitar are you playing….is it hollow bodied or does it have a center block? Will you ever play Intermettzo? Take care
Thank you! The guitar is a hollow body but without f holes, it’s a Gretsch Country Gentleman 6122 ‘59 reissue. Not sure about Intermezzo, will give it a listen
Excellent - have you done a backing track for this song? I know you do Skype lessons, but do you do live lessons at my/your home? If so, where are you based?
Hi Ian, I'm based in Ulverston in the UK and yes I have a backing track of this tune. I'm just uploading a new volume to Bandcamp, will be available soon.
The only diff between you and Chet is he didn’t listen to your records before he listened to something new. He was the maestro of understanding audience taste. He was in a way a bit of a Lawrence Welk purity to the genre. He understood schmaltz. He never took a break that strayed far enough from the melody that many in the audience would lose track. He never hit a wrong note. He never struck a note wrongly. He made a guitar sound like it was playing itself. You hear nothing but notes.
Hi Jeff, In answer to your question re gear, I use virtual amps and fx in Apple's Logic program for most of these videos. Live I use a modded Fender Excelsior amp with Boss DD3 delay and EH Nano Holy Grail reverb, that's it. Regarding backing tracks, I have mine for sale over at Bandcamp - mattcowe.bandcamp.com There are 6 volumes of tracks there which can be bought individually or as albums.
Bonjour Matt, Merci de poster cette grande chanson. J'aime Chet, Doyle Dykes et beaucoup d'autres mais le meilleur est Mike McAdoo et vous. Thanks Jack, I really appreciate your kind comments! I'm still working on those pull-offs though, Chet made it look so darned easy.
Wonderful sound from that Gretsch G-6122 Country Gentleman (or Nashville Classic). Chet's own choice of guitar.
Thanks! My favourite too 😊

Superb
Post Awareness Stage 6 is without description
As always the picking is great, but that Gretch sounds fantabulous.
Excellent! The new guitar sounds so much like Chet's original recording. You performed this difficult arrangement very, very well!
Excellent picking! Love Chet and love your playing. Now subbed!
Thanks!

Great Job Matt. I am a Chet freak also.
Thanks!
New guitar? I have not seen this one I don't think. Perhaps a look back for other vids is in order!

note for note from the record ! kudo's
I used to have a Gretsch identical to that !
Do that. It's a Gretsch G-6122 Country Gentleman, easily avaiable.
Is this slower than Chet's version? I do have the original LP. Part of my prized collection. Well done Matt.
I don’t think so, I try and match the tempo although there might be slight fluctuations
just as good as chet-- awsom.
Thanks William, much appreciated!

This song is a lot less unsettling when its not about the slow mind death of dementia

Nice 6120, is it new?

It's 6122-1959... if you want a Chet sound, a 6122 is a right Guitar!!!! And tube amp!!!!!!
My compliment Matt!!!!!
Paolo Spadaro I'm getting a 6122 Country Gentleman and I have a Princeton and a Carmen Ghia.

This song's pretty relaxing when it's not butchered to symbolize dementia.
