When my husband and I bought our house, I didn't notice for a year, but there is a tree in the backyard and it looked weird in spring so I took a closer look. Here it is a cherry tree with a grafted weeping cherry(sakura) tree on it so it had white blossoms on normal branches and then these weeping branches with pink blossoms!
I’ve never been in Japan during cherry blossom season, such a big bucket list thing for me (I’ve been during summer and winter) but I know the timing is so hard to get right 🥺 thanks for bringing us along ❤️
13:34 It looks like peach given the grouping. Generally plum will be more like individual flowers across branch with almost no stem, peach would be more like pairs across branches, while cherry/sakura more like bouquet grouping on the edge of small stems from larger branch. Sakura flower also should have small cleft on the petals, while peach is teardrop and plum is more rounded. CMIIW.
I really hope that Japan can open tourist entry by the Summer. Been really wanting to visit Japan for a while now. Just now getting the courage to go myself. One day I would love to be able to drink some coffee while sitting under a cherry blossom.
I've been wanting to visit Japan for years now, and channels like yours and AIJ and Tokidoki help give a really lovely glimpse into life over there, and also helps with a healthy sense of escapism :D
I don't know why, but there's something about these seasonal festivals that just gives me a VERY peaceful vibe. I really don't know why. I've never been to one, but just seeing it already gives me that wave of calm xD Loved it.
I love videos around Sakura season, they're so pretty. I really hope to visit Japan one of these years during Sakura season. Also, I love how you noticed the person walking their cat.
I've been to Japan a couple of times, but never in the spring for the cherry blossoms. Hoping to get back there one day. Nostalgia hit and now I'm reading through the journal from my first trip there 18 years ago.
Wow! Why am I not there? Two beautiful girls during the Cherry blossom festival doesn't get any better than this! Great photography even better editing!
You have no idea how much I really needed this video right now we’re moving and one of our cats is lost and she’s been lost for three days and I’m so upset I really needed something to take my mind off of it, thank you.
I think the the flowers at 13:35 are plum blossoms; they have the same dark pink/red color. You see them a lot around Seattle, almost as much as sakura. Those fesitvals are great to see, nice that there are some outdoor festivals happening again in Japan.
Yes, I used to live in a Australian city with so many cherry blossoms and ornamental plums. They can be light pink, dark pink, red and even purple. Although ornamental peach can be dark pink too. The stripy flowered one is a peppermint flowering peach.
Whoa the sakura place is soo beautiful…i wanna go to Japan! Travelgoals with hubby. BTW Im glad you have Nadine to spend the Festivals with, its more fun spending it with friends.
I finally got into japan this last three weeks, just in time to see the trees in Tokyo right before they went away! Gotta say thanks for the info and awesome videos you post that will probably come in handy these next couple of years!
I really miss Japan 🇯🇵 especially the cherry blossom 🌸 I got a chance to visit Japan in 2006 and I got to see a little bit of the cherry blossom event they were not in full bloom because our group arrived a bit late but it was still beautiful 😍 Thanks for sharing this beautiful moment with us.
Hey Sharla. I’m so glad to see things are returning to normal in Japan too. I’m so happy to see the food stalls and that festivals are back. I definitely shouldn’t have watched this while hungry. I’d love some Japanese food stall food. I wish Canada had little festivals like this during spring. I honestly just wish I lived in Japan lol. I’m glad you’re well!
I think it's really interesting that strawberry season in Japan is in winter. Because in Germany strawberry season is now really picking up and the fields for self picking aren't even open yet (in my town)
What a gorgeous video!! Sakura season is my favorite!! I'm so grateful to have been able to experience it during my time studying abroad and as an ALT. I hope to visit again sometime in the future. Thank you so much for sharing what sakura season is like in Northern Japan!
Hello, Sharla! I just wanted to tell you that I will actually be studying in Akita this fall, and as nervous as I am, your videos really soothe me and remind me that my time in Japan will be a really wonderful, special experience. Thanks so much for furthering my interest in international travel!
Cherry blossom and spring in Japan are such a treat. Wish I could see it for myself someday. Thanks for taking us along in this fantastical and magical journey.
I love learning about Japan, but it's the moments where Sharla gets distracted from all the pretty blooms because someone is walking a cat that keep me coming back. Woman after my own heart! Then, Nadine's smile is such a bright spot, as well.
Lovely! I noticed how big the Forsythia is. It looks like most of the Spring flowers are blooming along with the Sakura. It would be lovely to just sit in a garden full of blooms.
Washington DC, USA has a Cherry Blossom festival to celebrate the cherry blossoms blooming. Trees donated from Japan. They are just gorgeous. It's sometimes rains and has windy days in spring when the bloom so one can miss peak easier. The display is much smaller and gets very crowded but worth a visit. You can see the DC monuments during your visit. Would love to see the original cherry Blossom trees from Japan. Thanks for taking us along.
Everyone goes crazy for the cherry blosoms, but I'd really like to go check the plum blossoms and wisteria too! I think the Wisteria would be pretty amazing!
The plum blossoms, while beautiful, tend not to encompass such huge areas as Sakura. I find Sakura more beautiful less because of the actual blossoms themselves, and more because the huge forested areas of pink are just so enchanting! There are a few larger plum spots here and there, but since they bloom earlier than cherry blossoms, all the flower viewing people tend to flood those few areas while waiting for Sakura to bloom. Wisteria are wonderful as well- I just visited the famous wisteria park in Tochigi last week. However, since they are much less common, the spots to see them tend to be extremely crowded, so keep that in mind! The thing with wisteria is that that generally need a lot more care (and support structures) than Sakura or plum, so it’s pretty rare to find big and beautiful wisteria that are in unknown areas. That being said, I love all three and make trips every year to see them all! Sakura just has the most bang for the buck!
That mochi roll thingy looked so yummy!! I love how you got so excited over seeing the cat in the park (I would be too!) 🙂 so nice also that Nadine got to join another video! Looks like you made a new friend! ❤️
That looks like fun and the cherry blossoms are pretty! Hope things get better and there'd be proper festivals next year. I wish i could go to Japan to see those in person. And the food looks great, too!
Japan is on my bucket list of places to visit. Along with seeing a waterfall in Hawaii and volcano. Plus swimming with wild dolphins. And taking a Disney cruise.
Hi Sharla, I think the other flowers you mentioned are apricots. They have a larger flower with lots of petals and abundant stamens. Love your eyeshadow! Cheers from a fellow Canadian! 🌸🇨🇦💖

We have a campus here with a bunch of old sakura trees, and it's such a great place to visit in the short window you have before the rain kills them. I'd still love to go see Japan's trees, though!
I live in Seattle area and all the cherry blossom trees were beautiful but short lived after the wind and rain swept through. I hope you are doing well Sharla! I love the way you film your videos, it shows that you have amazing filming and editing skills as well as trying to showcase beautiful quiet moments.
Ya know when I see the price of strawberries there it makes me so grateful that I get a box that is 2 pounds for $3. I eat like 4 or 5 with my breakfast almost everyday 😋 Looked like a great week to go park hoping, thanks for sharing the view! ♡
Just once, I want to see the cherry blossoms bloom in Japan. My trip during Sakura season was cancelled in April 2020, my first trip was in fall of 2019, of course no cherry blossoms to be found. For now, I'll live vicariously through my favorite TH-camr for as long as I can remember. ALSO!!! Please bring Nadine along for more adventures! I was so happy to see her back again. We have a huge cherry tree in our garden and it was full of cherry blossoms this year despite my parents cutting some branches, because they grew so long. I'm always excited when our tree starts to bloom. It hasn't had this many blossoms in ages. In Bonn, Germany we have a famous street lined with japanese sakura trees. My city district in Essen-Rüttenscheid is also kinda famous for it's sakura trees. But nothing comes close to the real deal in Japan.

They look so gorgeous and that petal rain is so beautiful! 💕 It's still about a month until the trees here in Finland start to bloom unless it suddenly gets cold again, I'm just afraid that I'll miss them since I have some long work days scheduled for the estimated blooming days. 😮💨
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Sharla! My apartment was just down the street from Nishi Koen; I used to go there for hanami parties with my English conversation school. My first few months in Sendai, I was at a homestay that was very close to Tsutsujigaoka. Looks like you went there at just the right time!
I am fortunate to live in Yorkshire UK where we have many cherry blossom trees...maybe not as many as Japan but enough to make me have memories of Japan in the springtime.
That reminds me of my very first time in Japan. I was staying literally right beside Ueno park during sakura season. All of the sakura were in bloom and they had all of the food stalls open because the park was packed with people. Such a great memory. I can't wait to be able to come back!
The other flowering trees you were wondering about are probably crab apple. They are one that are often bred especially to have beautiful flowers (as opposed to apples for eating).
This video made me so happy! Im glad that festivals are slowly coming back. It looks like Japan is finally starting to come back to being “normal.” Can’t wait to go there again 🥰🌸
This is so pretty!!! What a great week with friends! ^_^ There are a lot of cherry trees and weeping cherry trees in my area (not all closely planted, but many homes have them in their front/back yards) and walking around and seeing them last week was so beautiful!! There was a huge rainstorm last night so it's all gone now, but it's still so pretty with the other types of flowers blooming.
I used to live in Yokohama when I was a child, I haven’t been back since I was like 10 years old but my heart longs to go back! Some day I want to bring my Husband and son over there and relive the good old days. I miss it so much.
It was my first year being able to experience Sakura season in japan! You’re right they do disappear fast 😅but absolutely beautiful!! I hope to experience more of japan and travel around soon and hopefully make it up north!!
The street I live on in Australia is lined with Plum trees that blossom pink at the start of spring, always makes me feel like a new beginning to life after a long cold, bare winter. 😊

I’ve always wanted to go to Japan but plane tickets are about $2k usd.
Exactly!! And then when my friends and I managed to book a trip around that time, covid happened..... such a bummer.
I've always heard autumn is just as beautiful as spring, too. The autumn leaves are said to be amazingly vivid.
@@Lisallamaa it is!! I always tell people to go there in autumn, I actually liked it as much if not more!

Man, I was looking for this comment! Thank you!!
I have an ornamental plum tree in my yard and they look very similar to sakura in a way except a lot smaller
I also agree that these are peach! Also, peach bloom later than both plum, apricot or cherry.
Luckily Apricot and Almond flowers should be rarer in Japan, otherwise it will be even more difficult to differentiate.
I really hope that Japan can open tourist entry by the Summer. Been really wanting to visit Japan for a while now. Just now getting the courage to go myself. One day I would love to be able to drink some coffee while sitting under a cherry blossom.
