    These are one of the most amazing dogs in the world. It doesn't look like it but they are super intelligent. Mine is 10 months old and just works things out no problem. We don't cut the ears in the UK. These dogs are to be treasured they nearly died out and are one of the oldest breeds still alive today. Mastino's Rule

    @Daluzmmania89 or maybe the dogs are bred to be huge with loose skin to fit their function as protection dogs, and regular grooming prevents inherent skin conditions...

    In closing...
    I am in fact Italian and proud of my heritage.
    The Mastino is a dog like no other. The Mastino moves differently, thinks differently and acts differently than any other breed. I know this because I grew up with my mother owning an animal rescue where I experienced many examples of just about every breed known to man.
    Only people who do not know the Mastino think of him as slow...
    "Seeing" a Mastino does not mean you know them. I shared my ENTIRE life with them...

    @typhoon1978 Just for info, They have always been that way. They are passive dog that won't fight if it's not necessary. Why they were taken has fighter is because they are and will always be guard dog they will die for theyre family, and because they can take lot of damage without showing it, ive heard of neo having a broken leg and having no sign of it, walking normally on it. A third point is that those dog are massif, they are big and very very very Strong.

    The breed is reported to have been used to fight alongside the Roman Legions, by having bladed and spiked leather harnesses tied to their backs and being trained to run under the bellies of enemy horses, to disembowel them. This dog is not completely useless!

  • @raseanguy
    @raseanguy 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    These dogs were originaly from the middle east thousands upon thousands of years ago, and somehow probably due to war ended up in Greece, alexander the great had neopolitan mastifs on his campaign. Then when the romans invaded greece they saw these huge feroucious dogs and decided they would take them back to italy, they made them into war dogs and they fought alongside the legions. In sicily they breed the dog down a notch to make the cane corse a herding dog.

    I commented this post long time ago...but my opinion is absolutely unchanged. I was speaking about actual situation compared to 1950-1970, so not 2000 years ago.
    we have so very little informations about the breed at that time that I can't say anything.
    we have pictures and people instead about 30-50 years ago. My one was a critic against the fci system nothing more. for sure in this moment we have a lot of breeders involved in business processes more than passion ones.

    When the romans invaded gaul (france) and britania (britain) The neopolitans they took with them on there campaigns, slowly adapted to the environment and became the modern day mastifs we see in england and france. So in short the Neopolitan is the original mastif, ALL other mastifs are from the neo including the cane corso as well.

    "There is no fear of such a dog" until you enter the yard of someone who has a good example of this breed.
    If you were face to face with an angry Mastino you would shit yourself so hard that you would most likely propel yourself into space.
    These dogs "LOOK" like they are lumbering and slow but make them mad and watch out!
    Remember that grizzly bears look slow and lumbering too but they can out run a race horse for a short distance.
    Mastini are all about POWER and intelligence.

  • @AlessandroTorrisi
    @AlessandroTorrisi 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @tfrenn @tfrenn for sure... he had but not so much... if you look at old pics you will see a functional dog, not an unuseful one.
    Try to search for "Guaglione" or "Siento" and you will see REAL Neapolotan...
    After watching them come back and tell me what you think...

  • @mordotron

  • @MandyLionRock
    @MandyLionRock 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @typhoon1978
    I will say that most breeders of ANY breed are creating dogs which do not have the functionality of the past. NOT just the Mastino... Just look at the GSD. Completely ruined by showdog people but... If you take the time to find a good example you can and will with any breed.
    I do know I have a porsche... Having a porsche does not mean you have the best car... Because there are many other porsche's on the street but... IF you have a porsche you are sure to have a GREAT car.

  • @MandyLionRock
    @MandyLionRock 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @josesomoano
    Amen to that my friend...
    Anyone who has the need to insult dogs, or people, is someone who has something missing...
    If you have no machismo yourself then I guess the next best thing is having a dog to supplement that which you do not have.
    I have lived with Mastini all of my life and these dogs are on par with the very best guardian breeds out there.
    If that guy who keeps insulting came into my yard he would eat his words while my Mastino eats him...
    ALL dogs are great...

    @typhoon1978 so the original Neapolitan Mastiff does't have wrinkles, I asking cause I really don't know about these dogs and I like the way they look

  • @AlessandroTorrisi
    @AlessandroTorrisi 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    The actual "Neaopolitan Mastiff" has been ruined by breeder's selection for shows, because to exalt the phenotype they lose the functional side.
    I saw some of them at the FCI shows (International Canine Shows) here in Italy and I think there's no fear of a such dog. He's slow, he has lot of health and skin problems... What are we doing ? Why are we wasting all the possibilities we have to reserve such beautiful dogs ?

    @MandyLionWWIII I don't know what is the sense of your post... but I would like to tell you that I live in Italy where Mastino Napoletano is born, and I always see them because lot of people have.
    Every dog has his own dignity, but right because of this I don't know why Man must ruin him... why ???
    Also a bad example of this breed can be fearless and aggressive and make fear to man... so ? I would like to tell you that if Mastino Napoletano was unchanged from old times for sure I had one...

  • @eellexa

    @MandyLionWWIII ... you say that you shared your ENTIRE life with Mastinos but there's no trace nor on your myspace account, nor on your youtube account of them...NOTHING... but I understood you love hard rock music and you probably sing! What about dogs ? Can you show us ALL YOUR Mastinos ??? Please...

  • @AlessandroTorrisi
    @AlessandroTorrisi 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MandyLionWWIII Sorry but I didn't see this message :-)
    When I read your messages it seems that you know me, it seems... but it's not so !
    when I write "see" means that I "know" them... but I don't possess... I don't like to possess the actual Mastino :-) If you want I can show you a real Mastino coming from Viterbo, with no loosy skin and great athletic body... My Dogo Canario plays all the days with him (until he will grow up)... and I know him... (to be continued)

  • @MandyLionRock
    @MandyLionRock 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @typhoon1978
    You obviously do not understand that a PROPER Mastino should be a gentle and loving family member and a fierce and FEARSOME protector against intruders.
    If you feel that strangers should not be afraid of a GUARD dog then you are missing the point completely.
    Just because you live in Italy does NOT mean you understand the Mastino.
    My Mastino is a lover and a warrior... There is no contradiction in that. A good Mastino is the most loving dog to his master but NOT strangers.

    When you say that you have a "real" Mastino without wrinkle or skin then you are saying that you have a "real Porsche" without without the Porsche design... It does not work that way.
    People want to believe what they want to believe but.. Reality is a completely different thing.
    You said you would not be worried if you went into the yard with a Mastino...?
    If you and your dog entered my property uninvited you would both end up learning a huge and painful lesson

    Actually...
    If you looked at my myspace pages and my facebook you would see PLENTY of my Mastini.
    The reason why I tend to disagree with you on what you said is the following...
    If someone said to you that Porsche makes cars which don't drive well but then you found out that they never owned or even driven a Porsche in their entire life would you believe them?
    But someone who owned Porsche all their life would be able to give you the REAL information.
