I could watch these birds walk around all day 🥺 Remember! Our Patreon supporters have their requests made first 👉 www.patreon.com/animalfactfiles
Hi
me too thanks for the vid :)
I agree. They have such an entertaining walk. :)
I love your flight attendant safety briefing voice
I just saw a video of two of them attempting to cross a road while doing their hilarious little bob and step and they kept trying to synchronize with one another. They looked so funny and cute that I was laughing for the entirety of the video.
The avian urge to dance across the road
Was it this hilarious one. th-cam.com/video/aB9DC9orYaM/w-d-xo.html
Then they got run over
I saw that too! Then had to search for more videos
Literally the first recommended video under this one!
The woodcock dances when it's in danger. Now that's a level of courage I wasn't expecting from a bouncy birdo.
Completely incorrect. They walk that like that when feeding and during courtship
I remember seeing one of these tiny chonkers in my front yard one time after a storm and just being fascinated by it. That little bob they do is so cute.
Oh you lucky duck!! That's so awesome you got to see one in person!! Their bob is adorable 😹
@@AnimalFactFiles I know! I just couldn't stop watching it.
I WISH I HAD THAT EXPERIENCE!
I had one on my front lawn. I watched it for quite a while. Then I tried to sneak around and get a picture. It must have been a sight. I moved very slowly a few steps at a time. It would would bob, bob away a few steps. And repeat. Finally, it got to the woods and disappeared in the brush.
They are so marvelous.
I remember that for my middle school prom, I did a dance that was an imitation of a woodcock walk.
LOVE THIS!
You goofy nerd
"Timberdoodles" is just awesome... I will forever call the Timberdoodles.
Right?? Such a great name 😹
I vote for timberdoodles as well. Suits their charming, rhythmic walk! Woodcock sounds more appropriate for birds who find their food in the bark of trees, similar to the well named woodpecker.
These birds make me smile with the bobbing and their beep!
Little babies are having nothing to do with that dance walk, but alas, the habits we learn from our parents.
I just love this species of bird. They are so funny and adorable. And the babies!! They look like tiny balls of camo-feathers catching the funk with Mom 😂

As an American Woodcock hunter for the past 55yrs I was going to comment on the sound they make when they take flight. I was hoping that you 'd have it recorded but I didn't catch it if you did. The only other sound I have ever heard them make is a very small verbal utterance that sounds like saying the word "nerd." The American Woodcock makes a whistling sound with it's wings when it takes flight or if it is already in flight, the sound occurs when they are startled or if they make a major change in direction or accelerate in speed. In my area the hunting season runs from mid September to mid November. The birds migrate South from Canada thru my area and are easily seen right at dusk and dawn. But shooting hours are specific and detailed explicitly in the hunting guide to the minute. Almost like having Deer cross the road only at the Deer Crossing signs (?) American Woodcock take flight mere seconds after shooting hours end. If you are foolish enough to shoot them after the legal hours, you are easily found by the Woodcock Shooting Police. And they all know to get out of their trucks to listen for shooting at shooting hours end. Beautiful and very good eating especially if fried with Bacon, Woodcock are one of God's amazing animals. I sincerely hope Al Gore, John Kerry, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk with his transhumanists don't decide Woodcock have too big of a Carbon Footprint to be allowed to exist. ben/ michigan
These birds are so funny to watch doing their cute funny walk. They gotta be one of my favorite birds
I was wondering why they do that bobbing walk which is so, so funny!
I always have a good laugh every time I see it😊
The bobbing might cause insects to come out from under dry leaves or from holes in the soil. In snow, the bobbing probably makes insects move, which the woodcock can hear and dive for.
I'm gonna guess the silly walk is to hypnotize either prey or predators - I mean, WHO doesn't stop what they're doing and just watch, and keep watching, until it's too late?
Truth😂😂😂😂
Lol, when I think of a Snipe, it makes me think of the movie "Up", such a cute movie. Also, "timber doodle" is my favorite of their nicknames. 😊👍
Omg you're right! I didn't think of that until you mentioned it!! Up is so sweet 😻
kevin!!! same here. that’s what i thought our lovely narrator was referring to actually. i guess up borrowed the idea :P
@@AnimalFactFiles Yes! I love that movie! All the characters are so sweet and endearing, especially the animals.
My favorite bird! I rescued one from a window strike once in Chicago. I would love to see one flying around carrying its chicks!
I think they just like to boogie.
They be jiving.😎
When I first saw the walk I thought they were pretending to be leaves blowing in the wind, similar to the movements of some chameleons.
they vibe and they bweep, i'm thriving
I saw one nesting in woods and I scared it and it scared me then I saw a long beak and thought it was a kiwi so had to Google, definitely this weird looking but beautiful creature 🦅
The name timberdoodles made me laugh!🤣
Timber doodles! My favorite! 💖💜❤️💖
if i had a woodcock i'd walk like that too .
A shorebird is any bird that belongs to the order Charadriiformes, which is a very diverse order of water-based birds, they range in size from sandpipers to skuas.
Can you guys do a video about Weevils that you find in rice
or maybe Weevils in general
Love this suggestion!
@@AnimalFactFiles Thank You 🤩
It is time
Been watching and hunting these birds for sixty years. Never occurred to me the way they look crossing the road could be compared to dancing
until seeing stuff lately on the internet.
I always thought they looked like popeye, olive oyl and bluto on the old cartoons.
If you're ever feeling down in the dumps, watch one of the woodcock videos set to music! Especially the one with the song 'stayin alive'
Thanks for the knowledge on these birds. Lv ‘em.☕️🤙❤️
Typical scientists thinking of the most inappropriate names imaginable
One of these days I bet we'll have new species with names like the "Chungus Rabbit"
If they only bobbed while wading, I'd have guessed it's to soften up the ground underwater... It's not "stompy" enough to emulate raindrops either
woodcock is the most chad of animals while other animals flee or try to hide woodcocks basically say "yeah i see you and youll regret it if you mess with me"
When faced with a perceived threat, woodcocks have been known to pretend injury to win some time until they manage to make a hasty escape!
It's amazing what some animals do to avoid being eaten!
Another great video !!
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it!
They're very cute
We completely agree!!
My new favorite bird!
They’re pretty darn cute ❤
We like the name timber doodle best! 🙂
so so cute!
Love these feathery potatoes
I would theorize that their bobbing walk confuses predators as to which direction the woodcock is moving.
Awesome video
Thanks so much!!
why do they have to be so cute tho? what advantage does that possibly give them other than us making dancing Timberdoodle memes?
i love them
they can fly with their chicks on their back?!? that's pretty bad ass.
Woodcocks ha woodcocks hehe woodcocks
Lovely birdo 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
God has a sense of humor😅
It did that same movement when was searching for food
Peregrine falcons are my ultimate favorite bird. It broke my heart to find out they prey on these adorable woodcocks ☹️
Peregrines eat a host of prey though, so hopefully they don't dine on woodcocks often. 🤞
I also was under the impression that Snipes were a made up animal used in a prank
Me too! I'll never forget my first "snipe hunt" in Boy Scouts. And then being on the other end of the prank as an older Scout, as we initiated the new kids.
@@jefe2112 I was at a birthday party. I was 15
i love the name bogsucker
TIMPER DOODLE !
Beak is 3 inches?!
MAN, THAT IS MASSIVE!
HUMONGOUS ACTUALLY. MORE THEN U EVER NEED small bird...
...
Don't look at me like that
I want this bird, in my hands, NOW
Timberdoodle 😀
Do one over killdeers
Oh great suggestion! Thank you!
timberdoodle!
Timberdoodles for the win
The little dance is for locating worms
I just found my favorite bird
TIMBERDOODLE!!!
Also for related viewing, the Woodech
U right 😹
The American Woodcock's call is almost identical to the Common Nighthawk
Both funny shaped beasts
I use call the yellow Angry Bird Woodcock since he destroys wood.
It makes sense!!
Beep
0:50 “gmod sounds”
Swiggity Swooty
🤣
Do all species dance?
They also have amazing musical abilities.
See "Heaven let your eent shine down" on TH-cam. :)
👍👍
❤
i went to john Woodcock school!
Can you do fact files on francolins?
Oh that's a really cool suggestion! Thank you!
timber doodle
I love timber doodle, though bog sucker sounds like something i'd call kids.
Ahaha! It does sound a bit like something you'd say to someone you're peeved at 😅
@@AnimalFactFiles Then again I could also really hype up a monster in my dnd game and just have a woodcock be the thing the party ends up finding.
@@sagescarletwing4330 YASSSSSSS!!!!
@@AnimalFactFiles"we're having a problem with bog suckers in the area" And then spend the rest of the sesion just not mentioning they're a bird that dose a wiggle dance when it walks. It's the type of evil dming I love.
Are they commonly seen in the morning?
Woodcock's Rock
Timberdoodle.
Nighthawk
Comments for the algorithm god
Thank you!!
In Danish it's called skovsneppe. In Swedish morkulla.
Do you have a video about Red Tailed Hawks? I have one close by
Sure do! Here's the link:: th-cam.com/video/Q501d29mOv8/w-d-xo.html
That's so cool you get to see one!
@@AnimalFactFiles thank you. Before I moved in town i would see one on my way to to every day. I wish i didn't have to move but i didn't have transportation to work. I walked 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back. Now I'm only walking 6 minutes
@@penny_the_wiser413 Oh wow that's a long walk! I can imagine you probably saw a lot during that time, but I can understand wanting to reduce that time!
@@AnimalFactFiles I do miss all the nature I got to see but there's no way I could have walked that long this winter. We just got at least 7 inches of snow
@@penny_the_wiser413 Oof! Yeah! That's COLD! BRRRR!!!!
"Weight about a human heart ", wth😂
Just us SI unit, please.
They are referred as “timberdoodles” for the same reasons why cockerels (or cock) are referred to as “roosters”.
Its sad that hunters kill these cute and interesting birbos
I'm an ethical hunter. I live in Ohio and can hunt them seasonally. They are amazing flyers and extremely difficult to shoot.
Don't kill the dancing bird !😊
plz do Gelada Baboons
Great suggestion, thank you!
I also heard that cocker spaniels can be a predator to woodcocks.
What about Jack Russel´s Terriers?
Impressive little balls of plumage
How many takes did it take for you to say all of this with a straight face?!?!?🤣
What's that special Worm Walk they talk about in Dune? :D
You see that. 3 inches is big
What if the walk was to not alert underground prey?
Like they're stepping really quietly?
Snipers got their reputation due to these birds being difficult to hunt.
woodcock?
Oh no. I think the name of the animal talked about here will result in the video getting age restricted.
😊😊That’s dancing, not a funny walk. 😊😊
Their heads are so weird
KA GARABON NAMAN GAYUD! WHAT'S FUNNY?
What's not funny about this, had a teacher with this birds name as a last name
Jokes aside these seem kind of similar to a pheasant
I can totally see that! Fascinatingly, they're more closely related to seagulls!
