The Air Horn front of MAF in stock Air box, actually serves a purpose. I took out and modified to fit Inside Air filter. Actually, a good K&N style Stock air filter would be just as good as this mod, plus would have stock Secondary Air Hose still in factory position, with Metered Air going in right. Putting a Small Air filter on top of air pump doesn't and causes stumble and a code .
Alright I wanna make something clear, all those people that are saying you're losing power by installing airfilters like these are drama queens xd I myself have a mk3 vr6 syncro so it's a 2.9 vr6 engine with around 190hp. I did some dyno runs with both stock and this same spectre airfilter and with stock I got 194.48hp and with the spectre aitfilter it was 194.39 so you're not going to notice that at all same thing with the torque 246.24 and 246.16 so again you're not going to notice that the only thing you will notice is that you're car sound a lot meaner than before it ads a certain rumble to your car when you rev it.
Hey great video.... Mod costed me $45 and 20 minutes.... Instead of the q tip autzone has a 3" pipe that comes with vacuum attachments for the same price....
My man. Thank you. A few questions would this work for a 2016 tsi jetta? And if so. Same steps? Cause your video is the first one I watched where it's clear and right to the point.
i did this to my bmw 525i 1995. and it works great! i highly recommend this DYI procjet speacially if u have an old car. old car needs to breath more air b'cuz they are dying.. lol
Hey $Lash, maybe you should make a DiY baffle, video, the stock box will definitely allow more cold air,, but if you could find a cone filter that you could shove into the stock filter holder that might do something you could hear and feel since stock mk3's pull their air from the front corner panel,,,,👉😁😋😛🤓
SickSpeed sells Shower Caps for filter that keeps water out but breathes. Cold air? Not in Phoenix, summer. Cooler IN engine compartment. My only complaint is the air hose that goes from factory airbox to air pump. Taken off and small air filter put on air pump. But this air won't be Metered, not going thru maf anymore. ?
Hey thanks for the video it certainly helped explain this a lot. I was wondering if it would be worth it, or hard to relocate/get longer hoses so I could hook the intake up right behind the grill for more airflow? Thanks
Hey guys I just got my first vw it the mk3 golf with the 2.0 I was putting a cold air intake on it and I Noticed a whole bunch of oil in my old box and hose and intake and since this is my first Volkswagen just curious if that’s normal or if there’s something wrong and what the issue might be and how I might go about fixing it
I bought a Volkswagen Golf MK3 2.0GL with an Aftermarket Spectre Air Box Filter. It's not fitted properly and it hangs. So I went ahead and just use a wire and hanged it against the body. so it's not down low. one thing I do notice on my car is the MAF might be broken... kms
Do yourself a favor and put the stock airbox back on. The cone filter on the 2.0l 8v loses power, it doesn't gain anything. The MAF-housing is likely wobbling around smacking into the frame instead of being bolted in place by the factory airbox.
JobeMinacum I got it m8, thanks for the input thou. Now time to fix the Door latch and make the central lock work on a MK3 Base Model that has no electrical Windows or Lock switch
The locks on the MK3 uses a air pump and vacuum lines. If you hear any hissing sounds, try checking for black plastic lines. They get old and brittle and crack - especially near the decklid/trunk in the Jetta's. I'd rather have crank windows in a MK3, I've gone through the effort of changing window regulators too often for my liking. I'm glad I daily a MK2 GTI with a ABA-T swap now - it's much simpler.
JobeMinacum That's great and I perfect manual everything as it's less prone to breaking. And it's not the vacuum, it's rather the way the latch doesn't grab onto the door. When I speed up, turn or push the door it opens as if I were pulling on the door handle the whole time which I wasn't and I figured out it was the Lock Module on my Golf. One thing thou is my dumbass broke part of the White Vacuum holder... Kill me
Unfortunately the door handles do fail on the MK3's. Sometimes the gaskets crack and cause issues from leakage. It sounds like it could be disconnected, or the part of the doorhandle that holds onto the actual door latch could be stuck/broken. If I remember correctly, the bolt to release the doorhandle is inside the door frame on the side. I believe it's a Torx bit. It doesn't pull straight out, it slides towards the rear of the car and then out. Have you tried GAP? They sell a lot of parts for VAG cars and they're very reasonably priced. Just be careful with the lock chamber, if it falls apart they're a pain to put back together in the right order. Also, if you haven't already, buy a Bentley manual for the MK3 chassis. Loads of information in there, easy to understand with pictures. You can buy one brand new for about $50, or try getting one off a forum for a bit cheaper. They're worth every penny. MK3's are great cars.
i put one on my 98 vw gti and it was way more of a pain in the ass then this. I barley could get it to fit and there are a lot more hoses but it sounds amazing
Nice vid . If u want a pod put 1 on . There's no need for the bad comments .. make your car the way U like it pod or no pod . Snail or vtec if u like it thats what maters. If it turns head's good or bad there still looking at u sick car cos its different from all the rest . I think pods look good and sound better... if your all proformance y did u get a car that has paint on it?
I got a metal tie down type thing and bolted it to the new intake tube and to where the airbox sat. I'll do another video showing the upgraded short ram
This is neither a Cold Air Intake nor a Short Ram Intake. This is slapping a cone filter on the end of a stock intake, which is NOT the same. 10K thumbs down for mis-information.
yah im thinking of doing the same when i do my intake mod, but just a question how do you feel about it do you think its worth putting an intake ? any gains losses?
i haven't really noticed any gains or losses. It's more just an easy project. It does give you a sweet throaty growl when you really step on it. I would recommend it because it gives you more airflow, and it's easier to tell when you need to clean your filter haha
romeo mernacaj The OP is wrong, 100%. There is 0 reason to install a "intake" like this one on a 2.0. You are literally sucking in HOT air. TT tuning has proven that the stock airbox gives more power than a cone filter like this. They have the dyno's to prove it. Please don't do this. If you really want the "cool" induction noise, gut your airbox.
hmm, i wouldn't know what to tell you, i have heard of doing a sai delete but don't personally know how. on vwvortex there's a few forums on that, here's one of them: forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4884002-MK3-Secondary-Air-Delete.
If you have a SAI, you can use a little breather filter on the end of the SAI pump. But any person that knows VW's will know that this "cold air intake" is actually a downgrade, not an upgrade. The stock airbox is better. Dynos have proven it.
Answering a question with the correct answer (that you happen to dislike) isn't hating. I'll happily link you to the Dynograph proving me right if you'd like, TechTonics Tuning did the dynoruns a long time ago.
Somewhat yes to both.. Really as long as you don't disrupt the MAF or any other important sensors in your particular intake, sticking a cone on it shouldn't throw any codes. I've never had any problems with it in the time I've had it installed however I do recommend building a bracket to hold it secure!
I left it open for a while but i ended up just taking it off by undoing the hose clamp on the other end of the hose. you'll see that it is connected to what looks like a metal box right above your exhaust headers, just undo the hose clamp and it should come right off
I kinda want to do this just because the airbox takes up so much space lol. Did your car performance take a hit from this mod, or did it make it better? Did you ever make some sort of bracket to protect the air filter?
JobeMinacum I've been getting more into my mk3 2.0 lately. So what about stock airbox with a K&N? Also, what about stock airbox cut open on the fender side with a K&N filter?
Guidosaur The K&N filter won't really gain any power over the stock paper filter.. And it is oiled, so it will run the risk of fouling your MAF sensor. The Swiss-Cheese-Mod can't hurt, but it won't really gain any HP either.. Just induction noise. Honestly, the only aftermarket intake that will gain power on a MK3 2.0 N/A would be Autotech's or Eurosports that go into the fenderwell, right behind the bumper's vent. Other than that, might as well just stay stock.. Unless you're willing to do a MK4 intake manifold swap. In that case, you'd gain a good 3-5whp and TQ across the powerband. ScientificRabbit has done dynos on the MK3 vs MK4 intake manifold and the results are pretty amazing. I'm running a MK4 SR ported manifold on my Turbo 8v, and love it. Any other questions feel free to respond here or post on my videos.
Train wreck! This is not an "upgrade". This is not a Cold air intake. It is a HOT air intake. TT tuning, a very reputable VW tuning company (they sell performance exhausts, camshafts, big valve kits, EPROMS, basically, parts that actually work), has proven the stock airbox is better than this. By a LOT. They have the dynos to prove it, and I'd be happy to link you to the dyno graph. The ABA MAF is actually 70mm (2.75") not 3", like you say, so you're using the wrong size pipe, filter, and couplers. Does it "work"? Yes, but it is wrong. Also, by leaving the warm-air start up hose on, you are making it even more of a hot air intake.
You have just put a cool air intake instead of short ramming. Short ramming will burn the hell out of your valves, lose hp, mpg, and just mess your car up in general.
my bad man, i'll donate 40 of my so called millions of dollars to ebola research next time. This is supposed to be a fun project, not a serious engine mod. Thought that was pretty clear but I guess not. Thanks for your feedback.
No HP gain sucking in hot air loose HP . Plus air filter cone is flopping around , not secured . Ridiculous intake noise on acceleration . This is one dumb ass Mod . $50 would have got you an K&N pre oiled air filter better air flow and filtration over stock , and a cup of coffee .
Def helped me figure out the vacuum lines thanks!

what’s the link
Great video sounds great plus I can restall I factory air box sound
Just did something like the on my mk3 golf e orks great!!!.... your video helped alot good job man!!!
NICE video dude. Great filter brand choice!

Oh stop with the breathe stuff, thats just not true. They lied to you, make you sound like a fool.
It makes it sound cooler but you actually losing power
Talatala lifestyle funny comment 😂
Hey $Lash, maybe you should make a DiY baffle, video, the stock box will definitely allow more cold air,, but if you could find a cone filter that you could shove into the stock filter holder that might do something you could hear and feel since stock mk3's pull their air from the front corner panel,,,,👉😁😋😛🤓
Looks cool man good job
Thanks for the tutorial. but I was wondering if you have any issues when getting a state inspection, will a custom intake affect it all?
lol dude im suprised u didnt press on the gas at the end
SickSpeed sells Shower Caps for filter that keeps water out but breathes. Cold air? Not in Phoenix, summer. Cooler IN engine compartment. My only complaint is the air hose that goes from factory airbox to air pump. Taken off and small air filter put on air pump. But this air won't be Metered, not going thru maf anymore. ?
Were you going to fabrication some sort of plate barrier to avoid excessive heat from the engine?
Hey thanks for the video it certainly helped explain this a lot. I was wondering if it would be worth it, or hard to relocate/get longer hoses so I could hook the intake up right behind the grill for more airflow? Thanks

Nice video but we want the sound differents also!
There is smaller hose underneath that you have to detach from the aur box, this important to filter?
I bought a Volkswagen Golf MK3 2.0GL with an Aftermarket Spectre Air Box Filter. It's not fitted properly and it hangs. So I went ahead and just use a wire and hanged it against the body. so it's not down low. one thing I do notice on my car is the MAF might be broken... kms

Where did you get the red intake Allen bolts? Mine are stripped and need to be replaced.
How similar is this to the mk3 gti
i put one on my 98 vw gti and it was way more of a pain in the ass then this. I barley could get it to fit and there are a lot more hoses but it sounds amazing
thank u man, really appreciate the vid

HOW DO YOU ELIMINATE THE SOUND OF THE VIBRATION THE INTAKE MAKES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR
And removing at air box so its no longer sucking cold air. Lost 10hp doing that mod
So how would it be done right?? I am buying a short ram intake, this video seemed simple
Do u need tht cufler or is it just sugeested
do all those parts come in the box when you buy it and do i need to measure before i go to buy one or is it normally same size?
can you take the warm air hose completely off or what do you do with it just leave it like that?
i ended up taking it off all the way
yah im thinking of doing the same when i do my intake mod, but just a question how do you feel about it do you think its worth putting an intake ? any gains losses?

Probably 🥸
Nice Jetta what headllights are those?
ebay Angel Eyes. Aka Junk.

I have a question bro my car gets a lil more power with this intake? Thanks
No.
En qué le ayuda el filtro de alto flujo a mí carro
that adustable wrench is a cresent wrench
Yeah dumb sh1t
Crescent was just a popular company that produced them. It’s like ur calling a soda a coke dipsh1t... blaze hyr is an idiot
What do you do with that warm air hose? Can it just be open like that?
I left it open for a while but i ended up just taking it off by undoing the hose clamp on the other end of the hose. you'll see that it is connected to what looks like a metal box right above your exhaust headers, just undo the hose clamp and it should come right off

Thanks for the help, will do man
Guidosaur
Not a problem :)
I jizzed my pants when I heard the engine!
It's not cold air. It takes air from engine section so that means it's hot air.
Forget the wrench just get a 10 mm or a 13mm bruhh
Train wreck!
This is not an "upgrade".

STFU loser
Very original. You have no logical answer, so just stoop to insults. How intelligent.
How many comments did you make?
all good but your going to need a dam so your not sucking in the hot air from the surrounding engine bay area .
Please, no one do this. You are wasting 40 dollars. Unless you want to pay 40 dollars to lose HP, that is.
i dont know about you ,but ive gotten atleast 6 more miles per gallon aswell as a better response, and i have a 2.0l soul
DamnyouToaster
BS.. Your engine sucking in hot air isn't good. It raises the intake charge, which makes the fuel burn inefficiently.
Go get an education.
JobeMinacum shut up Dr fr if you want to get mods on your car short ram intakes do very little... save money for turbo
Short ram intakes like this will decrease power on these motors.
Not really a Short Air Ram. Installed in same place as stock Air box.
i have a mk3 gti,,,, it is a strong car
You have just put a cool air intake instead of short ramming. Short ramming will burn the hell out of your valves, lose hp, mpg, and just mess your car up in general.
Dude you forgot to unhook the negative clamp of the car battery
For installing an intake absolutely nothing, wouldn't try to replace the starter like that though.
Wow the hoses in your video were not in the same place as our car.!!! Wth
why would you replace and modify something that was designed by hundreds of professional engineers.. idk man , I guess you got bank.
my bad man, i'll donate 40 of my so called millions of dollars to ebola research next time. This is supposed to be a fun project, not a serious engine mod. Thought that was pretty clear but I guess not. Thanks for your feedback.
No means to offend bro just my opinion Budd .. All good . have fun though
+Alex Saint short-ram gives at least 3 hp on vw mk3
+TheTikiReviews Nice video, does this give the 2.0 more horse power?I have a MK3 I was thinking of installing a cold air intake too..
No. It's proven to lose power by TT tuning (a reputable tuning company)
So much room in the 2.0 my mk3 vr6 has like no room
my tdi has more room than it
This is so stupid. Used stoch air intake and didnt even out the hose back on you just out a cottin swab in it the started it wtf.
SRI and CAI are no where near the same thing. Take that slash out the title.
NOW WHAT THE FUCK IS A WHOSCLAMP??????? Jk I knew what you mean 3:09
Re title this Short hose / hot air intake waist of money mod.👍
Don't do it it caused transmission problems and loss of power the stock air box is the way to go please don't do this you're only hurting your car
That seems pretty unrelated lol...
The "loss of power" certainly isn't.
It caused transmission problems? Hmmm
Your transmission was probably already a piece of shit no way a air filter messed it up
God those 2.0's make me cringe.
No HP gain sucking in hot air loose HP . Plus air filter cone is flopping around , not secured . Ridiculous intake noise on acceleration . This is one dumb ass Mod . $50 would have got you an K&N pre oiled air filter better air flow and filtration over stock , and a cup of coffee .
hahah short ram my ass
But ' gife you wan big sour City car and by was gone one power ..thanks
$LA$H(SLASH) COLD AIR INTAKE IS COMPLETELY A FALSE STATEMENT,,YOUR ONLY ALLOWING MORE HOT AIR INTO YOUR ENGINE/ NOT COLD is kNOw good
