There are clips of the Colecovision version on youtube. It looks much better. You can tell that this is a close approximation though. Impressive for the 2600.
This Atari prototype is a mix of Pitfall and Jungle Hunt games. Now that Atari is re-releasing the old consoles with updates, I hope that this Tarzan will see an official launch sooner rather than later...
Fantastic stuff. In the interest of science I dropped the resolution to 144p and the sky looks fantastic. This is intriguing! I guess you had to rescue your monkey pal from the treehouse? The music is a banger too!
Hi Rees. Nice one. I've seen this being uncovered and released. Good to see a video on it and this motivated me to actually play it myself a bit. My colour palette is slightly different, I have played it on original A2600 PAL, is it then NTSC version of the game? Many thanks Edit: I forgot to add, that Atari released this game but in XL/XE version, looks very similar etc. Title : Tarzan of the Apes Edit 2: Found PAL on Atari Age :)
It looks quite difficult, almost to the point of frustration. Those type of Atari games always turned me off. Gorgeous graphics and audio. I bet it would have been more balanced before it shipped.
th-cam.com/video/ggRky4LOXM0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hfe88xz6Uq6EcZcV video posted 13 years ago of the colecovision version. There's a health bar. And it's much easier to see what the aim of the game is - yep it's freeing your simian pals from cages...
I suppose the best way to tell would be to compare with the Colecovision version released in 1983. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with it, I guess I'll have to do some digging.

I also can not believe how good the music is, the sounds as well. 😊
The sound is incredible

Guessing the black block on the left is due to the CPU time being needed to animate the swinging vines…
Sounds pretty amazing, looks nice - seems like this would have been a great game back in the day. Glad it got preserved.

The audio is genuinely quite nice considering it's the 2600.
I love those gradients on atari games 😊. The crocodiles are tooken from Pitfall right?

AaaaaAAAAaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaah
Radar Lock 16kb has ending. No ending here?
Bit like Pitfall! ?
Mmm, stun lock.

There is no way this isn't a modern day game marketed as an "undiscovered gem" it has too many modern day tropes like the health bar
I wish Rees would've picked up on that too, this is scetchy.

I also am sceptical, what is going on here
There are other Atari games with health bars: Fantastic Voyage, Xenophobe, Double Dragon
3:36 skip the pointless intro lads
Did you miss the chapter markers?
Many of us subscribe to Rees for his insights and commentary and find just gameplay videos a bit droll. To each his own, though.
