+mercilessv Very true. A 28 min version of the Cell story did indeed put the Hollywood big shots to shame with that horrid Dragon ball: evolution movie that came out a few years back. Visuals, acting, music, 28 mins just nuked a full movie. Hollywood people need to take some serious notes from anime fans as to how these movies should be done properly.

You got nerds on here that don't understand that a direct translation of the anime to film would be awful. The artistic liberty they've taken with the project made for a great short film. I enjoyed every minute of it 10/10.

This is a 'What they would look like in a real world' interpretation. So it all works... I even like Cells face, looks far more menacing and scary than Perfect Cells anime face. And this Cell is very intimidating, from the way his flying sound to the way he breaths. This Cell is meant to induce fear, and he does.
The reveal that it was never Trunks narrating to the audience but Vegeta leaving his final words to Trunks was BRILLIANT!!! Every time I come back to this film I find myself loving it more!!!

When he started to talked about how he became a better father and a better husband, first thought on my mind was, did he marry Mai? and then the tape said “you got a lot of work to do my son” and “I was holy cow it was vegeta’s voice” that was a great reveal
Everytime I watch this," and it's a lot." It's like the first time. You can clearly see the love and respect they have for this iconic group of characters. I'm 52, and have been a fan of DragonBall from the very beginning. Hats off to you guys! There's major studios that spend millions of dollars for films that can't touch this level of storytelling and world building. And the love comes through in every scene! Bravo!
+Jacob Jackson I would have to disagree. I've always known cell to be ruthless while at the same time jovial. He loves to fight and kill people just as much as he loves to talk about doing so. He's a monologue kind of guy/creature. And with Freiza's cells being in his body he takes on his traits of just loving to see the look of terror on peoples faces. But, I didn't make this short so whatever.
+Jacob Jackson I think the only reason I would like him to actualy have some form of dialogue is literally for the character arch throughout where cell wants to find a purpose beyond "perfection" that one scene in the anime especialy where he explains he never knew quite were to go forward after he achieved perfection until he absorbed goku and relised "I AM THE UNIVERSE'S END" I thought that line especialy in the anime was amazing, but this is good just for the sake of having a more hateble villain on the big screen, yes
I dont like it very much, Cell is known to be a prideful and show-offy kind of person you guys should have redesigned his face to at least have a mouth to do that.
I love this so much, you made Cell actually terrifying while also catching some of the key aspects of his character and design, and you could feel Trunk's pain and struggle throughout the whole film as well as the battle with Cell, bravo guys, you achieved something Hollywood couldn't which is impressive beyond measure, I hope to see a sequel of this amazing film one day
ssj Kyto what are you talking about this is not dbz at all they got so many details wrong trunks never went ssj when Bulma crashed because in the manga and anime she never crashed. And trunks travels to the past to tell people about cell which is why his name is (future trunks). Also I don't know why the showed us how out of shape he was in the time chamber with that untucked tank top they still got shit wrong like how vegeta was in the time chamber with trunks and not by himself. Then Goku and Gohan went in after or the other way around but they still got those detail wrong
DVL you realise this isnt based on the manga/show its inspired by it. they took the characters and the situation put a twist on our own expectations by saying that cell took over the future timeline. people do this all the time with DBZ and call it their own storyline (like if trunks went to far back to when vegeta first arrives on earth)

Completely agree with above mentioned, best live action DBZ movie ever made, and never enjoyed one until this one. Great job BlackSmokeFilms for making this movie, now perhaps eyes will be opened and a real big budget live action movie could be made in the near future. I keep having hope some day there will be a DBZ live action movie franchise which would be a massive success if done right!
The fact that most of the dialogue in this movie is a tape recording of Vegeta to Trunks, and you don't realize it til after the big fight, is kinda epic.

A big budget is not enough to make a good DBZ adaptation, it takes someone who knows the franchise deeply and truly 'gets it'. Major thumbs up. This is, by a long shot, the best we have so far.
Exactly no one could actually make a real DBZ movie unless they were a real true fan and actually stayed up all night watching re runs of a show that they've seen a million times before because they love it that much.. This is pretty good.

Francisco Asef Super Saiyan looked garbage too. Light of Hope nailed Super Saiyan. Considering the fights were entirely CGI, they should have atleast got that right.

Sure the effects in this weren't great, but since when did the effects in a film matter more than the story? You worry to much about effects over story and you get the Star Wars prequels.
vica vox Light of Hope is not a scene-for-scene rehash... it's based off the History of Trunks, but is shot and choreographed completely differently. Personally, I think Light of Hope was better because it had entirely practical effects, the actors looked the part, and it followed the source material (with it's own creative aspects). I'm all for creative interpretations and I think this was great, but the whole dark, gritty take and CG effects just didn't cut it for me. Stray too far from the source material and you end up with DB Evolution.
I can only imagine what these guys would do with the budget marvel movies got. It is insane how good this actually is!!! Massive regards to you guys for accomplishing this.
That moment you realised it was Vegeta talking the whole time to trunks on the tape, and then seeing him give trunks the tape right on his way to fight Cell... alone, his freinds all gone, his best enemy, ally, freind the one that could have stopped this died a normal man of a desease. so Vegeta knows what will happen, hes not going to stop Final Cell, hes going to stall his as much as he can until his very last breath, to give his family a chance to escape and hide. what a badass!!!
Years later. And this movie still hits hard. Thank you for having made this. The passion for dragon ball could never be felt as strongly in anything else I've ever seen but this.
This is simply the best movie about Dragon Ball ever made, even better than the web series' pilot which was made months ago. I appreciated particularly the voice over and the total absence of dialogues, really dark and intense. And I don't care about Trunks' and Bulma's regular hair, it's perfect just like this. Good job!

I agree. This isn't a film that focuses on the action and spectacle, it's an insight and an analysis Trunks, a character study, to be exact. It's weak in some areas, but it does well in all the others.

I disliked it because the Voiceover Narration that was supposed to carry the whole story through was very annoying. I would've liked it if they weren't lazy and actually written good dialogue instead instead Christopher Nolaning the whole thing and try to make every single sentence into a deep and metaphorical meaning

Seriously, I don't understand the negative comments about this beautiful fanmovie. Who cares if the story is set in (another) parallel universe? Who cares if Trunks doesn't have purple hair, Bulma doesn't have big tits and Cell is not "the same" as the manga/anime? Did you watch this movie? It's perfect. Especially the final resolution and the "plot twist" about the real Narrator and his feelings. Wonderful job, guys! This is the greatest movie about Dragon Ball I've ever watched!

I don't understand why with all their accurate work they couldn't keep Cell's mouth!? I could appreciate if his all three forms were eclectically fused together, but even that he should have kept his mouth! As it is Cell's body is really nicely done, but his face is almost funny (I'd seriouly laugh if I wouldn't be so mad about it first).

+One Piece Report I agree, there's nothing un-cannon about multiverses. Cartoons allow for certain aesthetic liberties that movies can't take and visa versa. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the way the narrator spoke during certain parts.

The soundtrack and cinematography to this is amazing. That final cgi fight scene was the best depiction of dbz I've seen outside of the og anime. This fan film got so many things right, that i would feel bad to point out it's flaws. Great job and thank you to everyone who worked on it.

This might not have been made if not for DB Evolution. You know its because of that awful film that people have learned how NOT to make a dragonball live-action film. So in some ways that abomination of a movie actually helped. I still have some of the taste of evolution in my mouth though, i need the 2nd part of this to wash it off. It taste like ass

I come back here and the fact that we don't see Goku's face is just the best! I love how the actor captures the body language so well and everything is just great! This entire film is great but that one decision is what makes me gush about this to my friends.

When he started to talked about how he became a better father and a better husband, first thought on my mind was, did he marry Mai? and then the tape said “you got a lot of work to do my son” and “I was holy cow it was vegeta’s voice” that was a great reveal

Everytime I watch this," and it's a lot." It's like the first time. You can clearly see the love and respect they have for this iconic group of characters. I'm 52, and have been a fan of DragonBall from the very beginning. Hats off to you guys! There's major studios that spend millions of dollars for films that can't touch this level of storytelling and world building. And the love comes through in every scene! Bravo!

He's a monologue kind of guy/creature. And with Freiza's cells being in his body he takes on his traits of just loving to see the look of terror on peoples faces. I love this so much, you made Cell actually terrifying while also catching some of the key aspects of his character and design, and you could feel Trunk's pain and struggle throughout the whole film as well as the battle with Cell, bravo guys, you achieved something Hollywood couldn't which is impressive beyond measure, I hope to see a sequel of this amazing film one day
ssj Kyto what are you talking about this is not dbz at all they got so many details wrong trunks never went ssj when Bulma crashed because in the manga and anime she never crashed. And trunks travels to the past to tell people about cell which is why his name is (future trunks). Also I don't know why the showed us how out of shape he was in the time chamber with that untucked tank top they still got shit wrong like how vegeta was in the time chamber with trunks and not by himself. Then Goku and Gohan went in after or the other way around but they still got those detail wrong
DVL you realise this isnt based on the manga/show its inspired by it. they took the characters and the situation put a twist on our own expectations by saying that cell took over the future timeline. people do this all the time with DBZ and call it their own storyline (like if trunks went to far back to when vegeta first arrives on earth)

Most impressive. The attire and the physical settings are right at home. The actors are pretty good but I especially liked Vegeta since he has that deadly look like the anime.

A big budget is not enough to make a good DBZ adaptation, it takes someone who knows the franchise deeply and truly 'gets it'. Major thumbs up. This is, by a long shot, the best we have so far.

Sure the effects in this weren't great, but since when did the effects in a film matter more than the story? You worry to much about effects over story and you get the Star Wars prequels.
vica vox Light of Hope is not a scene-for-scene rehash... it's based off the History of Trunks, but is shot and choreographed completely differently.
Personally, I think Light of Hope was better because it had entirely practical effects, the actors looked the part, and it followed the source material (with it's own creative aspects). I'm all for creative interpretations and I think this was great, but the whole dark, gritty take and CG effects just didn't cut it for me. Stray too far from the source material and you end up with DB Evolution.
I can only imagine what these guys would do with the budget marvel movies got. It is insane how good this actually is!!! Massive regards to you guys for accomplishing this.

This is simply the best movie about Dragon Ball ever made, even better than the web series' pilot which was made months ago. I appreciated particularly the voice over and the total absence of dialogues, really dark and intense. And I don't care about Trunks' and Bulma's regular hair, it's perfect just like this. Good job!

+One Piece Report I agree, there's nothing un-cannon about multiverses. Cartoons allow for certain aesthetic liberties that movies can't take and visa versa. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the way the narrator spoke during certain parts.

The soundtrack and cinematography to this is amazing. That final cgi fight scene was the best depiction of dbz I've seen outside of the og anime. This fan film got so many things right, that i would feel bad to point out it's flaws. Great job and thank you to everyone who worked on it.

This might not have been made if not for DB Evolution. You know its because of that awful film that people have learned how NOT to make a dragonball live-action film. I come back here and the fact that we don't see Goku's face is just the best! I love how the actor captures the body language so well and everything is just great! This entire film is great but that one decision is what makes me gush about this to my friends.
