  • Red Giant 2024.2 features Red Giant Geo, a new tool that lets you texture, light, and clone 3D objects in After Effects. Artists can use any layer or comp to customize textures and materials using the full power of After Effects. Rendering performance in Trapcode Particular has been improved significantly and there are new custom blur maps for Bokeh, as well as improvements to Looks’ UI. And the new native support for German and Korean allows artists to use the software in their preferred language.

    Is this just Element 3D, but 10 years after Element 3D?

      Geo is a simpler, easier-to-use tool. It can't do everything Element 3D can do, but it'll do what you need it to do in quite a few cases.

    Is Geo apart of the trap code suite and replacing form?

    • @nate42
      @nate42 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’ll find Geo in the RG Trapcode effects folder. It definitely has some overlap with Form in the Cloner but is still missing a lot of Form’s capabilities. Is that a direction you would like to see Geo go in?

      @@nate42 thanks for your reply, oh I actually meant Trap-code Mir. I got those two mixed up! Yeah Form is for a completely different purpose. It would seem to me that Geo has more capabilities than Mir and the two plugins seems to be made for very similar use case that is to work with 3D geometry inside of AE. Going forward would GEO be replacing Mir? Seems redundant to have 2 plugins doing similar things, I always find Mir to be very limited for 3D.

      @@DonTNguyen Ah yes, great observation. In fact, Geo was originally intended as an update to Mir, expanding on Mir's 3D object capabilities. However, part way through development, we determined that it should be two separate tools. So, our intent is to follow up at some point to give Mir an update and focus on what it does best - deformed meshes, landscapes, wireframes, etc.

      @@nate42 excited to see all the updates to the trapcode suite! RG pluggins are the reason why I keep on using After Effects!

      @@DonTNguyen That's great to hear! We're especially excited about the speed increase in rendering Particular - especially with more complex setups.

    Any plans to add Alembic and USD support?

      Red Giant team member here. We’ll gauge user interest in expanding the supported formats as Geo gets into more hands. I’ll take this as one vote for alembic and USD.
