I'd take the Mustang, It has so much potential. If you make a slight mistake battling in the turns, the torque from the V8 would help out on the straights and turn exits. funny enough, the mustang actually seems more gripped up in the corners, the Mazda slid a bit. Great battle, you can see the toque of the big displacement V8 against the Rotary, fantastic sounds from that. My question is: could a good pistion engine turbo charged engine be compared to a rotary turbo, in performance and longevity, and of course far us all cost.
Rotary is the ideal engine for turbo , because of the ability of peripheral ports on intake and exhaust not mentioning bridge port, turbo is all about maximum flow, so Rotary is the perfect engine,
Yes looking to build something, i think a turbo rotary is the only way to get torque down lower in the rev range? 13b or 12a? is the rx 8 a good platform? Thanks for any input.

Remember that rotary sound in South Africa at Kayalami grand prix circuit The car I saw was a Mazda 323 triple rotor and it was freaking fast and dangerous
The Mazda-Fiat (Mafiat?) seems to have the edge on intermediade straights where it can rev high but absolute top speed is not a factor and it seems to have higher cornering speed if the driver nails the corner entry. That's where the Mustang looks a lot more stable. Plus low rev torque and top speed are better. Really good fun to watch.
