All my life I have dreamed of living like the mountaineers really did in the 19th century. Thanks to Mike he and his friends, they recreate those beatiful days gone. I hope Mike some day turn into reality my dreams...
Mike Katona; Thank you Sir for sharing another great outdoor adventure. I envy you and Brian and, the others that often accompany you on your excursions. I'm living my dream through you folks. As another commented earlier, I too would love to see more educational/tutorial videos of your packing and camp life. Again, thank you. Stan
Packing those mules looks like a young man's game. I'm glad you guys are still doing this and I hope I have someone like you to teach me in the years to come.
Indians at 17:00, and good hitch demonstration. I've packed many years and used that hitch on mantied loads. Keep yer nose to the wind, and yer eyes along the skyline.
Excellent video! Enjoyed every bit of it. Nice relaxed pace. The instruction was interesting. The scenery spectacular. Thanks so much for your efforts in sharing it. d:^)
Such a fun vid. It’s been forty years since I packed a horse. Live in the ozarks now and trek on foot. A might less equipment then you all carry, but no less fun. Thanks for a very fun vid.
What type of willow did you use? I have a water willow in my front yard. Will that do to make willow char? I really like your videos--I always learn a lot by watching someone else do something, like you showed hitching the load on the mule. Keep 'em comin'. I got all my MM gear finally and now I need a rendezvous to go to. Not very many in Tennessee.
Hi Bryan, that saddle fits every hayburner I ever put it on. I was told by the man I bought it from about ten years ago that it was made by Bob Schmidt, he was in Montana . Sadly I will be selling it soon as my days in the saddle are about done.
That is correct, and there won't be. Keep the hole small and the punk will not have enough oxygen to make a flame. When the smoke quits give it another 30 min. and set out to cool. Don't open while still hot or it will burst into flame and...you lose.
I have been missing your mountain man horse packing videos, glad to see this new one and hope that more are coming. Who made the saddles that both of you are riding?
I am happy for you. I grew up in NM on a ranch and have had horses and mules my whole life. I am 77 years old, still have two horses and one mule, live in a town of 350 people at the edge of the Eagle Cap Wilderness in Oregon and pack into the hills about 40 days and nights each year. I can also still get in my Navy uniform from when I was in Vietnam. What do you do? And incidentally, remember what Thumper's mother said?
Your video reminds me how much I miss Oregon. Thanks for posting.

Nice trip. We really enjoyed watching. We make our own charcoal but haven’t tried it for catching a spark, but will this afternoon! 😊👍
Beautiful places. So reflective.
These videos you make are great, would love to see some more!
I dream about it but Mike lives it, free and unrestrained, makes it look easy, but what you see is years of earned experience.
Most people don"t respect the experience, thank you Chacote.
Nice outing wish I could ride along...

I would love to see more of the educational/tutorial stuff in your videos, Mike. Good to see you're still at it.

Plain, common willow that grows near water all over eastern Oregon. Not weeping and not pussy willow.
Brian and I are already planning a couple new videos for this coming Spring.
Your black and white looks a lot like my black and white spotted saddle horse mare.
I like the looks of that saddle on the sorrel mule. Does it have a special mule tree? Also is the maker out of Washington state?

@@MikeKatona Mike, I really hate to hear that you may have to slow it down. I'll try to contact you through your photography site.
Guys, regarding making char material, I've heard that you don't want any flame coming out of the tiny hole in the top of the can. Is that true?

What does meat cooked with evergreen taste like?
Pitch...YUK!
@@MikeKatona So what were you cooking with?
Beautiful
you all so rock
A bunch of City Slickers playing Jeremiah Johnson? I may not be a Mountain man, but I grew up on a ranch in New Mexico and I do know horses and mules!
