So Nosferatu is the 1922 film with the character Count Orlok (he's commonly but incorrectly called Nosferatu), who is based on Dracula. The word nosferatu was popularised by Stoker in the Dracula novel.
Also male witches are just called witches, it's derived from the old english word Wicce, which is not gendered which is why some men were tried as witches during Salem. Warlock means oathbreaker, and is used to denote someone who betrayed a god, coven or fellow witches. It's a term that you can be as well as a witch. Wizards are purely fictional mean in pointy hats.

My conspiracy theory is that ever since people have been questioning whether Connor is really a vampire based on his attire (great as always btw), this podcast episode was made to hide the secret in plain sight. Lando asking his friend "would you become a vampire?" and Connor replying with "there's a lot of nerfs, it's no fun", "there's weird sh-", "vampires kinda suck"...it's a yes or no question Connor. Maybe he didn't even dye that streak of hair white, he actually has to dye that white streak black/brown and was feeling lazy and chose not to dye it for a while. Since when did teeth suck blood, does Connor do that? Myths so old that they don't remember it themselves? Connor ate a blueberry for the first time in his life some episodes back? Ask Connor how he feels about DST then since he brought it up. Lando, you should stop covering for him now I think. Also, very happy to see that Elmo came to the TBIJ podcast (pun intended :3)
JK this podcast was hilarious and there were so many bits and funny scenarios (blood bar especially), lost it completely at the Elmo parts! Thank you for the fun episode, Lando burp mid talking and throwing up legs were so funny too 😂
I actually know someone who worked on the sonic movie! I can confirm that the ugly sonic was real and they warned executives multiple times. I don't know what caused them to cave, but I imagine Sega had something to do with it

This was a banger way to start october. Also feels like we inadvertently learned a lot about both of your preferences, pfft ha ha. If I remember correctly, the reason vampires can't see their reflection is because back in the day what gave mirrors their reflective qualities were silver! Silver doesn't corrode like other metals, so it's often depicted as being cleansing/holy. I'm not as sure about garlic, but I think it was believed to ward off disease? It's fun finding all these connections to long held superstitions and such.
Speaking of which, I think the dichotomy of sexiness between vampires and werewolves is: vampires are seduction and charisma. You want to be charmed into willingly giving yourself up. (Also long running history of cannibalism as a metaphor for love). While werewolves are when you want to feel like prey. Weak, hunted, primal. I think both have that feeling of being at the mercy of something stronger than oneself, but one engages more in the facade of control and romanticism while the other is much more animalistic. Food for thought.
Also a witch is someone who practices witchcraft! Both men and women were historically accused of being witches, though definitely more often women. But that's because of good old misogyny rather than actual practice. Spellcaster titles (witch, warlock, sorcerer, etc) stem from their means of magical power rather than gender.
Also crazy ass claim that neither of you are popular with "fine ladies", though I have a conspiracy theory that that was just so people feel compelled to comment how much they like you. (joke) Or maybe you think your adoring audience isn't "fine" enough for you? Hmm? The audacity. In protest I shall like the video, leave this comment, and share it with my friends. That'll teach you.

I had a dream today where Lando, Connor and Sirius Black met. After that, every time I saw Sirius again in the dream, he gradually became more and more goth. I think Connor had an impact on him.
Vampires couldn't see themselves in mirrors because they were made of silver. They also wouldn't appear in photos because of the silver nitrate used to capture the image.
A vampire would be able to see themselves in a modern digital photo or a mirror.
Cool, never realized that connection!! Do you know if there is a reason why silver is bad for vampires and werewolves, like is it considered holy or something?
@Motuochez iirc, silver was considered one of the materials closest to god, second only to gold. Vampires, werewolves, and such were creatures of the devil, so anything godly would be more harmful to them. But I may be misremembering

Happy Spooky month guys and nice topic to start with. I really have a weakness for vampires and the lore too. Their romantic charisma as fantastical figures and dramatic theatrical quality did always fascinate me. Even the childhood introduction of Count von Count from Sesame Street. I even created my own set of OC vampire characters. I don't know if I'd BE one but it's high up there on the list because of all the mythos surrounded by vampires. That being said it really IS hit/miss to find really good shows/movies on streaming services. They try and have such big budgets but it falls short? Is that the right way of saying it?
But yeah vampires are probably the more sensual and sexy of the creatures. They are cold but when they drink warm living blood that is what awakens those more human urges? Or make blood more palatable to them probably. I could go on but...yeah Seuss. It'd be neat to see you both as Grinch and Max the doggo at Christmas time. Maybe a Sonic themed cosplay is in the cards too? Male witches are either wizards or warlocks on the topic of witches if I recall correctly from the Sabrina the Teenage witch lore and the classic Bewitched series that ran for so long back in the day.
And oh my goodness. Elmo puppet after making the Sesame Street reference. Hahaha. It was so funny to see that unexpected interview. Never expected 'his' answers. So hilarious. I don't like bugs of any type and would not/will not keep my cool around them. I do remember Connor's wasp/yellowjacket story but this is the first time I heard it this much in depth. That truly IS a horrifying memory and I understand how traumatizing that would be. I'm glad everyone got out of that alright. Safe and sound. I'm also glad that Lando's spider situation came out with a good ending too.
Both stories made me cringe and shiver. If not for the wasp story but for what happened to Elmo the pie conclusion was very fitting. Hahaha. Congrats!

All the Vampire talk reminded me of a short film: Dracula dies for us. It's like a social commentary and an alternate take on how the Count would die.
That was the best way to convince people to click the like button. I did it right at that moment, worked like a charm. Didn't even hear the whole episode yet.

Spooky month is by far the best time of the year, the weather gets colder but the sun keeps you warm with morning fog making dewdrops appear on spider webs from time to time as you walk over a pile of leaves and behold all the colors. It's magical, really! Spruced it right up with the pumpkin decorations on the set, fits the season and it looks great!
While I myself am not too well-versed on the topic, vampires are nevertheless fascinating creatures amongst all the monsters out there and it's intriguing to think that a single book released centuries ago set the ground rules for how they operate and how several other famous bloodsuckers such as Nosferatu were created from that! The same can be attributed to Sherlock Holmes where Doyle created an entire detective literature empire, giving way to other famous mystery sleuths. Both cases created the foundations of the draw towards these characters. And while being a vampire has its perks with super-human strength, immortality or being able to turn into a bat/wereworlf it's as you said, it comes with a lot of downsides from not being able to see your own reflection to being weak to garlic. Nevertheless, they're beautiful and elegant denizens of the night! Speaking of, Lando's business venture of being a normal dude revolutionizing the Silicon Valley of Vampires with his bar called "The Drip" wasn't half bad. The whole premise was genius, having swirly straws and serving vampires. As for werewolves, going into berserk mode ever full moon doesn't sound as enticing, it's a downgrade from vampires. Zombies don't get the pass, either. Officiating your own Metal Gear Solid style house in order to have the mobility while being able to reject visitors is not an image in my head I thought I could conjure up but Lando's description made it so vivid that I believe his idea holds water (not to mention it sounds epic, I can hear the MGS music playing as you sneak around in your mini house).
Streaming service shows losing their glow seems kind of common these days, from what I hear it's either a complete success through and through or falls flat rather quickly which is a little disappointing. With examples like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad, good shows I've seen released a while ago. They don't make it like they used to...
Somehow you two also have a talent for asking the most curious questions I've ever heard what with the whole symbio discussion you had. Well, a little healthy curiosity never hurt anyone! Which ties in with me wanting to perhaps give Cat in the Hat a try, not seen it before and from what you guys said it could turn out to be a fun watch.
Being a Sonic aficionando myself (slowly coming back now after a whole teenage years phase), I agreed with Lando's take wholeheartedly. Movie Sonic looked a tad to young for me too and made me miss his older self who had more confidence as well as his little trademark sass that made him a character who stood out. After all, at its core the plotlines are - as he put it - intricately cool and on the more mature side of video games. It definitely made me happy to see them adapt a more action-packed, serious approach with the second movie and from my own hype for the third movie I hope it'll continue in that fashion since the plot of SA2 follows a rather dark storyline.
Back to the monster talk, witches are great! Brooms, cauldrons to brew potions and magic spells attuned to nature or the supernatural! Male counterparts exists, however the female witch is much more prominent in any traditional depictions. As for the distinction between different magic users, the gist is: Wizards gain magic through education, warlocks are pact-based magic users often seen wielding dark magic while sorcerers are innate, instinctual magic practitioners stemming from bloodlines/heritage. Mage is pretty much the catch-all, umbrella term for all of them. Going to the questions answered on the podcast today, I'm with both of you on finding any type of bug horrifying. That whole ordeal Connor went through with the wasps in his wall sounded just terrifying, I detest those flying pests more anything too. 😖 I can barely fathom how much fear that must've ingrained in everyone involved... At least everyone made it through in that all-out war against them at 4 am in the morning and now you won't have to deal with it any longer! That being said, I'm amazed by Lando's talent for creating conspiracy theories out of thin air, that cicada one almost sounded too convincing. And he as a point on dangerous animals being made beautiful in movies, there's something about it. Meanwhile the auto-pilot rat in the hat answers just made me think of Plankton in that one Spongebob episode where he inserts a control device into his brain and steers him around with the help of pulling the levers. Terribly funny but Elmo's appearance took the cake, congratulations on getting such a well-known celebrity on the podcast! There's no real words to describe this visit with other than that it was pure cinema I had tears streaming down my face as I let out the most visceral laugh ever watching our little red friend perform some unspeakable actions in front of poor Commander's eyes. 😂 Elmo straight up copied a vampire's tactics right then and there, he has the makings of a true Dracula!
Deserved win for Connor this week for having been able to invite a Sesame Street citizen! The ending sent me into a full on laughing fit, didn't see Lando doing that with the puppet coming at all which made it all the more hilarious. Thanks so much for another great episode, guys! :D

I think the best aspects of vampires and werewolves come from shapeshifters, but I’m still team werewolf cuz they have less weaknesses.

The whole dynamic/relationship between Eddie and the Symbiote in the movies is a okay representation of the characters much later on once the Symbiote has kinda jumped between half a dozen hosts and lived it's own life in a way. But the Venom movies are overall a bastardization of the character.
Yes Venom works best as a foil of sorts to spider-man, but mkfe than that they just made the Venom Symbiote into this stupid puppy-dog of a character who's all quirky and funny because he's so stupid yet lovable.
They did Carnage even worse because he's supposed to be "SO" insane that his Symbiote reallt did fully merge to the point of thinking both halves were one and the same in a true hive-minded sense even more than Venom. But instead Carnage was beaten because Venom and Eddie are more in-sync aka "friendship yay!" bullshit.
Ppl are just SO excited to see Venom on the big-screen that they just put-on blinders to all the flaws of those movies.

Speaking of early literature fanfics, the original Lupin series has a story where he and Sherlock Holmes face off, but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle didn't want Sherlock Holmes in the book so the author actually changed the detective's name to "Herlock Sholmès," so he could keep the character in.
I'm not sure if it's the chemical that makes him the Invisible man also makes him super psychotic or if he was just crazy and also invisible, but that is a thing they put in the stories for some adaptations of the invisible man. I think my pick would be Frankenstein or Invisible Man, because living forever with your harem of vampire wives or having random mood swings every month sounds terrible.
I weirdly read something about that exact type of hornet Connor was talking about. I think it's called a European hornet, they're an invasive species in North America brought over from Europe in the 1800s, they're super big, active at night and are attracted to light,. While they aren't aggressive, they will get defensive if you mess with their hive, they burrow to build them and are known to eat drywall, they're my new nightmare.

I like vampires more as a concept only because of the immortal part, that just sounds sad so that's the only reason why I pick werewolf over being a vampire.

I feel the same way about werewolves, they seem cool, but the transformations are always shown as being very painful and grotesque.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there was an old belief about vampires being dead bodies that revive from the grave. Townsfolk would find corpses with blood leaking from their mouths and their bellies swollen. They drove stakes into their hearts to try to keep them dead.
